Brian Bowles
I am going to replace the old Panasonic reciever that was purchased 20 years ago. It is all integrated but was $1500 new. It has served me well but it is way past its time. I would like to purchase a reciever for about $399. Can I get a good one for this price? I have been out of the loop for too long. My promedias on my computer sound better than my home system. I want to buy a reciever for a home theater system. This will just be the first part. Thanks for your time. dougdrake2
Brian - There are some real good receivers in the $400 range. Check the models from Denon (1602, 1802), Yamaha, Outlaw (Internet only), and maybe also Harmon Karden. DD2

boa12
u may want to also check out the technics a/v receivers in that price range. a friend of mine has a technics he got for around $350 new & it's a pretty impressive value, though I can't remember the model. i have some technics components &, though not real "high end", have found them to be a great value. ------------------ What's so funny 'bout peace, love & understanding? mpgwagon
I'm still using my 1970's Technics (Panasonic) for audio. It blows away my new Technics AV receiver both in sound quality and power.Looks better too! Demo some new receivers at home before dumping the Panasonic it may be better than you think! ------------------ Home Theater: Technics SA-1040DX Klipsch SF1 Fronts Klipsch KSW12 Sub. KLIPSCHHOG
Brian the yamaha rxv-620 is an incredible piece if you can get it for @$400 (retails for $500). It outclasses pretty much everything else that I have heard in its price range. I would stay away from anything new from techics, reg. line pioneer, JVC, (circuit city brands),etc.. try to look at sony, yamaha, maybe even marantz or denon if it meets your price range. these are built better and SOUND better. have a nice day!
