thebes
Spring Break. Doesn't mean to me what it used to, just a drop-of in traffic. But for those of you who aren't on the road let's share a little music. Format's simple: Name of artist or group, name of album, type of music as best you can (rock, blues etc.), and recording format (cd, lp etc.) As usual I'll start it off with: The Coors, "Unplugged", cd, Irish/Pop/Easy Listening I like a lot of different styles of music, but normally I'd say this is not my cup of tea. However, I have found myself playing this several times and I must admit I like the harmonies and the occasional Irish rounder. Not everyones cup of tea, so I'll leave the call up to you. Also, very well recorded. So what do you have to share this week.
oldbuckster
THEBES; Hope we get a better response than last week. Blues Traveler; Live On the Rocks CD This cd was recorded Live from RedRocks Amphitheatre Denver, Co. 4 July 2003 I have always thought Blues Traveler as a good band, a band that MIGHT fill in where the Dead have left a big hole in that musical area of Jam band.Phish tried to fill in that hole, and now they are gone too, leaving that door wide open for some band to carry that torch. Well here they are, doors open, and I think they just walked in. They have always made decent studio albumns, sold well, critics liked them, but to me, there was something missing, but this disc answers any doubts I might have had. Musically as a band, they have never sounded better. They are a tight group of musicans that are begining to master their skills, and John Popper has never sounded better. Some new songs, some old songs, and a few surprise numbers, just a great set of songs.John's weight loss is our gain, I can't say enough about his performance, Good Job John, welcome back. Thanks to Greg? Raiders helmet from IA; You mentioned this disc alittle while ago, and what you said made me try this disc, Thanx, Delbert McClinton Live, try that one Bud, I owe you that. Def Leper
This week I'm enjoying: The Chronicles of Narnia Soundtrack Harry Gregson-Williams CD Film Soundtracks Harry is a film composer who is steadily gaining inertia as he gets new opportunities. He's done some good stuff already such as the Shrek animated films and Kingdom of Heaven, and the Narnia soundtrack has allowed him more budget and the ability to add extra texture with vocals. As with the film, there is a constant tendency to remember the Lord of the Rings, but that's understandable given the similar genre. Harry's no Howard Shore yet, but his soundtrack can certainly stand on it's own. The only disappointment is the usual inclusion of caterwauling pop stars to "qualify" the disk for the mindless, earless pop crowd. Dumping the pop crap and adding more of the soundtrack music would have been much appreciated. Alanis has apparently taken "one hand out of her pocket" and is sticking it out for cash. Recording is typical-- a bit too compressed but listenable.
theryugobuddy
The last two albums from Josh Rouse fit onto one CD --Substitulo and Nashville-- Acoustic melodic pop -- he reminds me of James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg--not the voice, but the attitude. Not a bad song on either album- Sweet vocals--but there's a little edge in the music--
