blake_mooney
So I decided to scrap the idea of getting a budget sub and save up a little more, I'm sure it'll be well worth it. But I was wondering, what's the best choice for a sub that goes below 20hz for no more then $600? Thanks in advance guys/gals.
M.E. 262
Sorry Klipsch, go for the HSU Research VTF-3 MK2. Per Robert Deutsch, "Stereophile Guide to Home Theater", ..........the response stayed flat between 20 and 26 Hz, with no indication of rolloff at 20 Hz, .................. blake_mooney
Have you read this thread? http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/686446.aspx Yep, but he wasen't asking the same question I am. You know I was thinking about just waiting for Klipsch's new line of subs to come out in a few months. http://www.audioholics.com/ces/CESspeakers/KlipschSubwoofers.php

billyjoe72
Jay and DrWho helped me design one. It cost $725 in parts and materials give or take. It wouldn't have to be that big if the extra $125 hurts. I can honestly say I can't see purchasing one manufactured that would hit as hard and dig as deep as this thing. I'm no pro by any means but I've had and heard a few. I'm not finished with it yet. I still have to veneer it, so it is still out in my 2 1/2 car garage, and it literally rattles my windows and makes the dust overhead fall down. Should be nice in my basement when finished. If you have the means to work with wood, I say DIY. The parts I use are in this thread. toodles
Jay481985
also the fact that drwho insisted on passive radiators instead of ports cost probably 200 more... I forgot how much you got them billyjoe. While ports cost something like 5 dollars
billyjoe72
Yea. They were $70 for each. But if it helps the sound, it's worth it.
Jay481985
ports do the same but it eats up precious cabinet space, needs a long end cause bending causes other factors, needs breathing room and causes port chuffing at the limits of the port
TheSoundBroker
Third the VTF-3. I sell (and love Klipsch)...but I also sell Hsu and for under $1K, the VTF-3 is near impossible to beat. Check for a PM.
