Klipsch in "high end" listening rooms...

I'm in the midst of shopping around for a projector for my audio

room... so I walked in to one of my preferred shops to check them

out. They are just minutes from my home... and have become a

Klipsch retailer in the last years... but I didn't expect to find such

a good showing.

They do have their assortment of competing brands... but I was

surprised to see their main HT outfitted exclusively with Klipsch THX

speakers... and their higher end 2 channel with room included a pair

of.......

Klipschorns 2005 (?)

Yup... heritage in a demo room. This is the first

time I EVER see heritage Klipsch in a showroom. They were hooked up to

McIntosh gear... I talked a little with a sales guy... and he

mentioned that they were on loan (probably from their Klipsch

distribitor ?) and they tried them out with several amps including 50W

tubes up too 250W SS.

IMHO, they weren't the great at selling their capabilities... but did

admit to loving their dynamics. All the same, the B&W

and Paradigms were all relegated to lesser rooms... ;)

It's a nice boutique... kinda hope they'd keep them there.

PS: not sure if the guy believed me when I mentioned I had a couple of pairs of those too... ?

so how did it sound?

They were set on the long wall, and their rooms usually sound pretty

good but someone was already auditioning them with unfamiliar material

(some adult rock). They sounded similar to mine I guess, but it's

not easy to figure out the difference between the recording versus the

speaker/room. I'm not expecting a big difference apart from their

room.

I got there 1-1/2 hours before closing and mostly talked

projectors. Since I wasn't going to listen to speakers, I didn't

really bring any sample material... I am temped to go back, esp

to listen to the THX room which included a pair of flush mounted

matching subs.

2005 model? That would make them pre the

latest cosmetic update model, wouldn't it? What finish were they?

They didn't have the new aesthetics but had the "new" pie logos, that's

why I guessed 2005... although they may be slightly older. I'm

pretty sure they were mahogany (which I have a hard time telling apart

from Sapele). They were quite stunning compared to mine but I wasn't

fond of the horizontal banding (edges of the home-plates and collar)

which was a little darker than front and top of the unit.

Any comments about how they sounded in comparison to the other products?

Wish I could, but didn't take control of the listening room. Maybe when I go back...
