Help with Heresy....

Recommended Posts

Hi, are the drivers mounted from the front or back of the motorboard?

What type of speaker wire terminal does it have?

Where is this serial # located?

My preliminary guess would be you have an original Heresy.

Maybe this link will help, but may only be for Cornwalls.

Hi:

Thanks for the reply. My info:

Q.: Hi, are the drivers mounted from the front or back of the motorboard?

A: From the back

Q: What type of speaker wire terminal does it have?

A: Don't understand the options here

Where is this serial # located?

There is a paper sticker on the back of the speaker with the info I've given and the signature of an inspector, Claudine....

Thanks Again

My preliminary guess would be you have an original Heresy.

KLIPSCH S/N FORMATS

DATES DISCRIPTION EXAMPLE

1946-1947 ### (001) ending #021

1948-1961 #### (0121) starting #0121

Klipschorns of this vintage had the s/n hammer stamped into the tailboard, woofer access door or inside the woofer chamber.

1962-1983 ##letter#### (20Y1234)

1984-1989(?) YY WW #### (89281234)

1990-1997(?) DOY Y2Y1 #### (135791234)

1998-2000 YY WW #### (00281234)

1962-1983 Letter format

A=62 F=67 K=72 R=77 X=82

B=63 G=68 L=73 S=78 Y=83

C=64 H=69 M=74 T=79

D=65 I=70 N=75 U=80

E=66 J=71 P=76 W=81

1946-1961 dates can only be found in log book (eng. Library)

DOY= day of the year

YY=year (i.e. 99,00)

Y2Y1=2nd digit of year, 1st digit of year

WW=week of the year

Date code on drivers (1994) Example 9429 = 1994, 29th week of the year / YYWW

So your's were built the 13th week of 1984 and are indeed original Heresies. The year, and that they have speakers mounting from the back are the clues. They should ahve a phenolic block with screw terminals for connection, not a recessed cup with 5 way binding posts. Also the back should be removeable. HII had speakers front mounted and the rear was not removeable.

On the sticker it should say H WL or H WO (if not faded) that stands for Heresy, Walnut, Lacquered, or Oiled. The maintenance or resurfacing of the finish would be different for each type.

Congrats on your score and welcome to the madness!

Michael

It appears to be a Heresy (not II or III but might be I.5???)...screw terminals to connect the speaker wire on back or the red and black plastic ones in a black plastic cut out?...does it say Heresy or Heresy II?...is it written on the paper sticker on back H-WO or H-WL (walnut oiled or walnut laquered)...there you go...Bill

Yes, it has a phenolic block with screw terminals and the back is removeable.

Walnut finish

Very impressive sounding too.

Now, where to find a matching speaker?

Thanks
