DrWho
Well it seems I've been detailing everything here so I might as well finish it off here too... For starters the Jubilee was fricken friggan fahrfenugan awesome (thanks Fini - did I spell that right?) [] I was quite impressed for it being a 2-way...and was at least expecting some sort of compromise. It was very well tonally balanced and dynamic as all heck - definetly didn't seem like anything was sacrificed for the bandwidth. If anything maybe a little blurring in the 600Hz region, but I'll bet that cleans up real nice with a an active crossover. I actually had quite a bit of time to listen to music of my own which was interesting...mp3's sounded like crap - go figure [] But seriously, the system could have used another octave of extension for the music I listen to, but that'd be easily remedied with a subwoofer....so when will Klipsch be building a tapped-horn 10Hz monster? Surely it's needed in the cinema! [] Anyways, three thumbs up and dice in the frying pan! I would love to see some people getting these set up in their home and I'm sure Roy would too. He seems very passionate about their design and I'm an instant fan. I believe there are a bunch of us that would very much like to hear a stereo pair - maybe that can be the treat for next year? How bout one of you rich old guys go get a pair and I'll help set em up...I promise not to hurt my shoulder just beforehand [] While listening to the Jubilee I believe Trey was playing with the crossover in a cornwall 1 in the anechoic chamber? I didn't see too much, but saw him running LMS with a nasty response curve showing on the monitor. What did it turn out to be? Reversed polarity on the squaker? I was actually treated earlier in the week with a short rundown on crossover design with Roy - gotta measure the propogation time correctly to make sure there is nothing funky going on with the phase response and then make sure the individual driver responses don't exceed the system response (phasing issues). I'm sure there's more involved, but it was fun watching Roy play with the Jubilee crossover. [H] After the fun in the plant it was time to head back to the Farmhouse and get working on the PA for the concert that nite. Trey was stressing like a belt on a fat man bending over so I didn't dare mention all the other issues that needed fixing - ok, maybe it wasn't that bad. We weren't able to do the webcast (sorry everyone) because the server we were going to bounce off didn't have the bandwidth available for us. I'm pretty sure the video turned out well (Picky is the man), but we're not too confident about the audio recording. We were thrown a curveball with the mixer being post fader and not pre fader which meant a lot of annoying things (aka clipping which digital doesn't handle too well). The computer was also crashing periodically and being wierd - but maybe Picky will be able to do his magic. Overall I think the concert went really well and most everything came together right when it needed to - I was definetly having a blast. By the end of the concert I was extremely exhausted and wanted to thank everyone that helped tear down. After everyone left, me and John (Triceretops) cleaned up the inside of the Farmhouse and got back to the hotel at 2am. I was still looking for a ride home by that time and was told Jim Hunter would be heading home around 4am...it was really nice of John to give me a place to crash for a few hours and take a shower - he even provided snacks! 5am rolls around and I hook up with Jim. The trip was extremely smooth until we hit a parking lot 50 miles south of Lousiville. It took 3 hours to go 4 miles cuz some semi truck crashed. We got back to his place near Indy at around 8:30pm? Man that was a long trip (and he drove every mile of it). I got the nickel tour of his place where he was showing off all sorts of cool antique stuff - he even has a ton of stuff from PWK as well. My favorite item was the 'acoustics bible' that PWK had made all sorts of corrections in and apparently started designing his khorn.in the margins. Jim is a real cool dude and I would highly recommend any chance to meet him - he's a walking history book with lots of cool toys. When Colter showed up we got see even more stuff. I think it was around 10pm that we started heading to Colter's place in Indy where I pushed myself to stay awake long enough to eat dinner and listen to his Ultra2 subs and new khorns. Man those are going to sound nice in his gallery. I spent the night at his place and then finally made it home around 4:30pm. Now I gotta finish all my homework and get caught up with all the school I missed last week. No biggy - it was definetly worth the trip. So that was the trip - and holy crap was it a blast. colterphoto1
"So that was the trip - and holy crap was it a blast." Glad you had such a good time Doc. I'm glad that you got to take the trip of a lifetime (your fellow students are going to be sooo jealous when you tell them about all the time you got to spend with Roy). In a way it's good that I didn't go, cause I would have wrestled you for mix duty and would have WON! So you got to be king of the scaffold, as nature intended. Thanks for all the write-ups. Maybe we'll have to look into that Jubilee thing... Hard to envision right now with these Khorns not even properly setup in their corners yet. But I have to have something to look forward to... jwc
Guys. I spent some time on the phone yesterday trying to get info on how to get the jubs. I'm not a dealer and that seems to make some confusion. Any tips on where to go from here? jc
