Rick
I watched my DVD of Susan live from Austin City Limits again last night (very highly recommended!) and would like some recommendations for any similar female blues artists. I really like her voice and her guitar playing. I also have Shemekia Copeland's "Wicked" that I really like too. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Steve_L
Rick, may I suggest the Lucinda Williams Live at Austin City Limits. Lucinda is to country blues what Susan is the electric blues. I think you will like it, it's a guitar army backing her up, and you're sure to like the show, if not love Lucinda. I'm not a big country fan, but I love Lucinda. Netflix it first, if you do the Netflix thing. Bonnie Raitt is also a female blues player that has been going strong for many years. I like her older stuff better than her newer stuff. jacksonbart
So does Derek Trucks. She reminds me a lot of Bonnie Raitt, as mentioned above. I dig them both, but Susan is easier on the eyes.
jheis
Ya gotta remember that Bonnie has been at it about 30 years longer than Susan. '76 Bonnie smokes '06 Susan as far as being easy on the eyes. James

theryugobuddy
Lucinda Williams' Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is the best bluesy woman guitar album--killer songs throughout. Lucinda Williams other later albums are great, too. I like her alot more than Susan Tedeschi-- Bonnie Raitt's early albums--long before Nick of Time--are real good too. Give It Up and the Bonnie Raitt collection are great-- Etta James 2CD Essential is great stuff throughout too. I love that song where she screams "Stop the wedding -- don't break two hearts" Eva Cassidy's Live at Blues Alley is great--such a voice--she died young of a melanoma And if you haven't discovered Nina Simone--she was a powerful soulful singer--I used ot have several of her albums, but the 2CD that was released a couple years ago is stellar--
Steve_L
Thereyougobuddy, check out Lucinda Williams Live at Austin Texas. Great concert and absolutely super musicianship from the back-up band. PS My first time seeing Bonnie she was the opening act on the Boston Common for a already dual-bill for an open air concert of Paul Butterfield Blues Band, opening for BB King. When BB was in fine shape and Paul was a young man. I think Bonnie was still in school.... it was 71~2.. great days.
