Weird Woofer trouble!

I recently changed from one TT to

an other, and this is when it started. This weekend while spinning LP's

at weekend volume I ketp hearing a back ground boom, boom. I even went

outside to see if someone was displaying fireworks. Next night

different music and still a back ground ,boom boom. Looking at the wall

thinking my wife is moving things around in the house.Well, then I saw

the K33 doing a in and out motion all of the sudden for no reason. So,

I find the boom, boom but why?

The TT is a Thorens TD 160

MK III with a SME tonearm and the Denon DL 103 cartridge.I had it

hooked up before and never heard the extra noise. I swapped amps around

to make sure it wasn't the amp. When using the tuner, it's fine. So ,

I'm guessing it's the TT some how.I also switched the jacks on the

preamp.

The extra boom, boom is only

picked up from a song with some real bass to it. Not sure where to go

from here? Thanks for any HELP!

Ok, maybe I should add. It wasn't till after I was playing Lp's for

awhile before I noticed the extra noise. It comes out of only one

speaker. And even at low levels,it's like someone tapping on the cone

every so often.

Tonight,I guess I'll open up the back and look. Loose wire? Thanks

Are you sure it isn't feedback from that

table..........move it away from speakers, doesn't hurt to try, it's

free..........hard to believe it the speakers fault.......

Thanks,It is the closer of the two speakers that's causing stress. To

move things around is going to take some thought. My system is in my

shop, with not much extra space to play with.

Larry ,

Just what buckster said ........definitely feedback..

It is only one speaker ? Set the right and left output from the turntable over ?

See if it moves over to the other speaker....

Ben

Ben, Thanks. I did try switching the jacks, and the same speaker acts

up. I'll try to get things moved around and see what happens.

Subsonic garbage causing the woofer to pump uncontrollably. I've seen this a few times.

Many things can cause this.

Warped record! --this is obviously not your problem

How well is your turntable isolated? That's the first thing I'd check.

I have also seen/heard this when an arm and cartridge are TOTALLY incompatable.

Some sort of feedback.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Allan, The TT sets on a firmly mounted bench with a concrete

floor. I never felt that placement was an issue. With my other TT being

the same model,it has a Rega RB250 arm and a Orfoton cartridge. Though

I did dampen the chassis. With it I never had a problem at any volume.

Funny thing is, I had this same TT with the SME and Denon playing fine

awhile back, but decided it wasn't set up right. Didn't have the time to

play,so I returned the other back into the system.

Last night I hooked up a differnt Cornwall that sits in a different

spot. Didn't hear any extra noise. I also remembered that the first TT

has iso spikes,so I'll try changing the bases this weekend to see if

the closer speaker is cool with that. Thanks for all the replys.

Wish they were all that

simple!!!..................Fall settling in up there yet? Cool nights

already.................Come On Indian Summer...........Fall in the

North East, doesn't get much better..........

Yes,leafs are turning and cool at night. Had the wood stove going abit

last night. Helps, that I just insulated my shop with Corebond spray

foam.Should be a warmer winter!
