jbsl
Was at Best Buy and they had a HD DVD player hooked up to the Sony 46" LCD tv and I must admit the picture looked very, very nice! The HD disc had scenes from Serenity and the new Willie Wonka and the Chocalate Factory. I have the regular dvd disc Serinity and the HD version to me had a much better picture. To me it was not quite but almost like the first time I saw a TV channle in HD. I plan on waiting about 2 years and then get a HD DVD player. By then the selction of HD Discs will be much better. Also by then there might be enough comparisions between Blue Ray and HD DVD players to tell if one is better than the other. The other thing that impressed me was the Sony 46 inch LCD! With the HD DVD player(forgot to look at which one) the Sony looked fantasitic! I think the price was a little over $4000. I have seen it online for about $1000 less. The other good thing about waiting 2 years for the HD DVD player is waiting for the bigger LCDs also. I may just wait 3-5 years to be safe. On another note has anyone gone and seen the new Superman movie at the IMAX theater in 3D?
bismarck
The xbr2 is 4300 reg. I believe. The HD DVD player is the Toshiba one for 499 reg.. The TV doesn't look as good as it could. It only had a 1080i signal as opposed to a 1080p. The ps3 will show the first real 1080p w/o deinterlacing via the blue ray video games. Unless people are now using 1080p cameras for movies w/ no deinterlacing then i am wrong. I am excited to see 1440P res. on the HDMI 1.3 cables, apparently it's supposed to be just ridiculous. Personally i would get this years sxrd b/c i think they look alot better than the 46" xbr2 and much better than any wobulated 1080p dlp. The JVC D-ila chips are nive LCOS technology but i think the SXRD looks alot better. FYI, if anyone wants a good front projector BB has a sony for 3,000 clearanced to 1,500. Anyway, not like i work for them or anything......[]
JJkizak
So they are driving a 1080P LCD with 1080i. Is there any difference with a conventional 720p set driven with 1080i? JJK
Tom Adams
Everyone (well, almost everyone) should read this article before they get all wrapped around the axle about 1080p versus 1080i: http://www.projectorcentral.com/retailing_HD-DVD_Blu-ray.htm Tom
