Klipsch Introduces CS-500 DVD Entertainment System

New high-performance 2.1 system simulates effect of larger, five-speaker set up

INDIANAPOLIS

(January 8, 2007) - Designed for users who want high-performance

surround sound minus the hookup hassle, the new straightforward Klipsch

CS-500 DVD Entertainment System is the ticket to dynamic music and

movie sound with fewer wires and less components.

With just

two satellites, a subwoofer and an A/V center, the compact CS-500 uses

digital processing circuitry to simulate the effect of a larger,

five-speaker home theater system. "The cinematic depth of this little

system is so great, you'll find yourself scanning the room for the

hidden center channel and rear speakers," said Tony Ostrom, director of

product planning.

Each satellite employs dual magnetically

shielded 2.5-inch high output woofers and a 0.75-inch magnetically

shielded tweeter mated to an exclusive Klipsch Tractrix® Horn, a design

that delivers genuine lifelike sound as well as produces more output

using less energy. Klipsch is the only speaker manufacturer to utilize

horn technology in all of its product lines. In fact, the cutting-edge

research that drives the development of the company's leading movie

cinema speakers is also applied to the CS-500.

The down-firing subwoofer utilizes a 6.5-inch woofer and a built-in

Class D amplifier that distributes 35 watts of power to each satellite

and 100 watts of power to the subwoofer. Due to its compact size, this

subwoofer can easily be hidden away while still delivering dramatic

low-end effects.

The A/V center features Dolby® Virtual

Speaker technology along with a progressive scan DVD player, AM/FM

tuner and three auxiliary inputs. The CS-500 also has the ability to

pass high-definition signals through a component output and can

simplify all of the auxiliary input connections into a single

convenient output to the TV. An easy-to-use universal IR remote control

directs all system functions as well as those of the TV and other

entertainment devices.

Available in a black finish, this

system offers a clean, modern design that fits comfortably into any

living environment. Essentially plug-and-play, the CS-500 can be

operating in as little as 10 minutes. All it takes is hooking the

satellites, subwoofer and TV up to the AV center using the color-coded

wiring and then plugging in two power cords. A step-by-step set up

guide is included to walk users through the process.

The CS-500 system will become commercially available in April and carry a U.S. MSRP of $999.99.

While I think bringing some direct competition for the Bose all in one is a good thing, I do not know that I would have gone so far as to actually hire a former engineer from Bose. Wouldn't you want to do it the right way instead of the Bose way?

I seem to remember some time ago, that Klipsch Hired a Senior Engineer from the "Bose" Corporation...........

in the imortal words of Sargent Shultz.........."Velly interesting"...............humm.............

Yup, and here is the press release that I dug up on this very site (and I quote):

The executive management team at

Klipsch, which was formed in the early 1990s, has expanded with the

addition of John Carter and Tom Jacoby, two accomplished senior level

executives with extensive backgrounds in consumer electronics and

global organizations. John Carter has been named to the newly created

position of chief technology officer and Tom Jacoby joined as chief

development officer and vice chairman, also a new position.

Carter brings 29 years of technology and product development

expertise to Klipsch. As Chief Engineer of Bose Corporation, he managed

the development of technologies such as the Acoustic Wave® Music

System, Lifestyle® Home Theatre, QuietComfort® Acoustic Noise

Canceling® Headset and others. Carter was instrumental in Bose's entry

into the automobile OEM business and led the product and business

development of Bose's patented noise reduction technology.

I don't know! Would be nice to get something like this for my parents, since they already told me they don't want a full-blown surround sound setup, even ones with the small satellite speakers all the way around. But at the same time, they would certainly enjoy improved sound over what they got in the form of the TV speakers. My dad was very impressed with my setup, especially when I played thier copy of Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat DVD for them on it. Like I said in the thread in the General section on this, I wonder if Klipsch is trying to "out Bose" Bose. It is all well and good that a company expands out and do these kinds of things. After all, a successful company needs to adapt to a changing market place, and unfortunatly, it seems that the vast majority of folks ends wanting to put something like this in instead of big RF-7s or Klipschorns and the like for surround. I hope in the end Klipsch does not become synomous with "cheap but overpriced" and end becoming another Bose with these "lifestyle" moves.

I guess when they come out, I'll have to go play with one.

With all the speaker companies Klipsch just acquired you would think they would let them introduce the new system to the general public? Klipsch is 10 years behind BOSE with that type of system.................they are playing catch-up.............I don't know what their expectations are, but strongly doubt they will even hurt Bose sales...................too little, too late.................Leave the Heritage Series alone..............I think it's a step BACKWARDS, but what do I know??????? Maybe a NEW speaker for the Heritage Series would make more sense????????

Maybe, just maybe this new product will surpass anyhing bose has made and will be a good thing. My neighbor is checking into the bose systems and I recently tipped him off about this very klipsch system. I would like to get a listen to it myself to see what it's all about......surely it cant be any worse. Mmmm, maybe Fryes carries this thing, sure looks like a simple easy system to setup and operate......which is what a lot of people want nowdays.

Something like this could be a good way to introduce people into good audio, then the owners may one day show interest in the reference and heritage line. The bose owners now have nowhere to upgrade unlike klipsch owners. This could be big......real big.
