Broadcast surround?

Recommended Posts

When the govt' set the rules for HDTV, it was chosen from several system proposals from different groups in the industry, headed by organizations such as Zenith, the Sarnoff labs, etc. When it was chosen, the sound was actually worded to be "AC-3" which is Dolby Digital today. It is still considered one of the three parameters needed to call a broadcast High Definition.

technically, 5.1 is not the speakers, it's the mix on the source material. i don't hear many folks calling their sub my .1 biggrin.gif

.1 refers to the mixing technolgy where the lfe channel bandwidth is limited to 1/10 of a full channel.

here's a diagram for y'all: www.dolby.com/graphics/tech/m.gr.9904.surroundfig2.gif
