looking for a great sounding home theatre....and i have a set of klipsh speakers that i am considering using My room will be 12x 22 with a 100 inch screen and theatre seating

In comparison to what is available today- how will a set of 4.2s work as left and right and 1.2 work as rears? Center would be a KV1. or maybe I could upgrade just the center?

How much better are the new speakers?

Are the 4.2 designed for home theathre?

I am planing on buying a yamaha av reciever - the rx 2600 or so

Thanks for any advise

OK I will use them - but need help with a center and a pair of subs to shake the house

I think i will go with the RC-64 Center since my room is 16 x 22 x 9 foot heighting

What is the best sub to pair with the rc-64 and 4.2 and 1.2 rears? I want to have the sub hidden behind the screen ( just under it ) with only a fabric in front of it

100inch screen-

DO NOT use a "Reference Series" (i.e. RC-64) center with those 4.2's it won't match at all! Get a KG 2.2V or 2.5V or a KV-3 instead. You want to keep everything matching. Although I think that even the KV-1 will keep up decent with the 4.2's, the KG 2.2 or 2.5 will just give you more oopmhh since they have larger midbass drivers.

Subwoofer is not as critical, if sticking with Klipsch get a Sub-10 or Sub-12 or an RW-12 and you should be all set.

I second exactly what Frzninvt said. My friend had KG 2.2s and a 2.2v

across the front, 1.2s in the rear, with a cheap Velodyne sub. It is a

great system for the value, and will more than fill the room with any

music or movies you can throw at it. Depending on your TV, you

might actually use a nonshielded center, such as a 2.2, 3.2 or

another 4.2, lying on its side. If the center must sit on top of a

standard CRT-based TV, then you need a dedicated magnetically-shielded

center (2.2v,2.5v, KV-1,2, or 3), otherwise the magnet in the speaker

will cause distortion on the TV screen. If you have a DLP, LCD, plasma,

or big RPTV (where the sensitive workings are near the bottom of the

cabinet), which are not susceptible to magnetic interference, then you

could use the nonshielded models. It is critical for a seamless sound

stage to have matched speakers across the front (3x of the same model,

or L&R plus a matched center, such as your current set up).

If it wasn't clear from our previous posts, we are recommending center speakers that are not made anymore. The named models do appear on Ebay with some regularity, and sometimes they show up on Audiogon. Buy from a reputable seller (with >95% positive feedback) and pick the speakers up in person if possible to avoid shipping damage.

thanks all for the posts- Getting really excited and will share picts of the theatre construction... its a 16x22 x9 dedicated room....100 inch screen - still working on lighting and plumbing

Ok so here's my idea:

4.2 fronts
1.2 rears
KV2 - have but will sell
KV3 center- yet to purchase
RS-42 surrounds - yet to purchase
JL Fathom 113 -yet to purchase
Yamaha RXV2700-yet to purchase

How do you feel about this set up?

By "100 inch screen.." I assume you have a projector. With no magnetic shielding needed, you could have three 4.2s across the front, if you can find another one or pair, for a perfectly matched and seamless soundstage. In any case, your proposed setup will sound great. I understand the JL sub is a monster. Once you get all the pieces, get a sound level meter to calibrate it all. The RXV 2700 seems like a great receiver; you can read about dozens/hundreds of user experiences with it at www.avsforum.com.
