White_Hawk
I have a headphone jack that doubles as a spdif out, and I would like to be able to play my mp3s over my speakers through my receiver. I have a Denon AVR-2106 - what would be the best way to hook it up? I have a headphone --> phono cable - could I use that?
DrWho
That should work. Just be sure to keep the volume on the receiver down just in case. Your laptop should have some kind of documentation on how to properly wire its output. Some 1/8" miniplug to phono adaptors do slightly different things. White_Hawk
I enabled spdif in vista and I can't get any sound out of the speakers (playing through iTunes). I tried plugging the cables into phono and cd ins. Is there something else I should be plugging it into on the receiver?

I found this little gem: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-UCONTROL-UCA202-USBAudio-Interface?sku=702540 Behringer U Control. I use this in my office at work. It has an optical out or analog outs. I use the analog outs because I have not gotten around to bringing an optical cable to work yet. It sounds great and is as easy as can be to hook up. Just plug and play. For $30 you cannot go wrong. I have used this with high end speakers and it sounded very good.
DrWho
Will that Behringer unit pass Dolby and DTS signals if you try watching movies from your laptop?
Jay481985
use the 1/8 mini stereo to rca jack, enable the spdif on the soundcard, that windows one really never works. Then plug the phono plug into the reciever, just switch from red to white, I think its the red one though, One signal is ac3, the other is pcm
Canadian_Dude
On my computer I use a 1/8" stereo plug that splits it to two RCA plugs and then I have a two female to one male RCA adapter plugging it into my stereo and that seems to work for me. Also my Vista every once in a while likes to turn off the option to enable digital input/output for some reason. Vista is still really flawed I guess.
