Audio Flynn
http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1196002259 A decent looking Thorens for $ 175 http://161.58.252.3/i/c/f/1189174585.jpg A Lenco is a very interesting TT design to investigate. Departed Parrot has a a superbly modded one. http://128.121.231.169/i/c/f/1188925601.jpg I would take a flyer on this telefunken TT. Looks like good build quality,

WopOnTour
LOL Well I gues what you dont know cant hurt you! [*-)] The good news is you can always become Masta DJ Scratchy on the weekends!! (but of course then you'll have to buy TWO of them) Just get some "grilles" to match your deck!!! [Y] WopOnTour
Islander
The gold finish doesn't make it sound any better, but the upgraded tonearm cable in the Limited does. The SL-1210M5GSE has the same features without the gold finish and is quite a bit less expensive. More info here: http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?ttables.htm And here: http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_electronics/technics_dj/prod_default_analog.asp The Technics SL-1200 is called "The Wheel of Steel" for a good reason. They often run without problems for decades.
Guest srobak
LOL Well I gues what you dont know cant hurt you! [*-)] The good news is you can always become Masta DJ Scratchy on the weekends!! The SL1200's roots and reputation stem from way before anyone thought to use them to play music at a party. The recommendation has absolutely nothing to do with anything DJ related. There are numerous items on the 1200 Limited which not only set it in a class far from Julio's HipHop Room, but also far and above other decks costing 3x as much. Another poster already mentioned the tonearm - and that's only part of it. You are welcome to research some more, so that what you don't know actually becomes what you DO know, and doesn't hurt you. As for the gold trim - as most everything else in a person's audio system is art - why not the vinyl deck too? Between the piano lacquer finish and the gold - it looks damn sharp. EDIT: And if I ever see someone using a 1200 Limited as a typical DJ deck, I will knock them about the head with it, and then take it home and place it sharply on prominent display where it should be.
