Well? How does it compare to the Denon AVR-4802 and Yamaha RX-V3200?

Kain64, I havent been able to demo that paticular model with any Kipsch speakers but I can tell you from a devoted HK fan that Harman Kardon's widely acclaimed High Current Capabability and Ultrawide Bandwidth design provides high current power amplification.

The sound you hear over the other models is a more richer, fuller sound.

Because HK offers High Instantaneous Current Capability (HCC)w/ ±45 or more Amps (some of there amps have a HCC of ±100 Amps) makes the BIG difference. It really makes a difference when listening to music at loud levels. I can crank my AVR 65 over 3/4 of the way to max level and still have abseloutly no distortion! They are very clean and very powerfull with half the wattage of other brands like yamaha and Denon.

Most people are turned off when they see the wattage output on most of the amps specs. But this is just lack of knoweledge.... Hope this information was usefull to you.

Humm well this may not be so helpful but I thought I would pipe in anyway. I have the HK510 that I am using with my Cornwalls. I love the sound! The HK8000 has more features and more watts so I would think that it would sound awesome as well. I have not heard the other brands on Klipsch speakers so I cannot comment on them.

Additionally I have set up several systems for my friends and the HK has much more flexibility than other brands.

looking at the newer HK one feature that jumped out to me was the use of 2 seperate power supplies, 1 for front & 1 for surrounds/rears. seems like a nice deal at least in theory.

& high current is the key, specially for big woof speaks. like i've said a good way to guage that at least on paper is to compare the amp output in wattage at 8 ohms imped vs that in 4 ohms imped. of course assuming similar measuring methods are used (sometimes hard to come by).

not saying that the 4802 does not have high current 2.

Thanks for the replies. Smile.gif

It seems like a nice receiver and an alternative to the Denon and Yamaha, right? Smile.gif

Secondly, how does the Harman Kardon AVR 8000 compare to the Marantz SR9200?

Also, on the Harman Kardon website, it says 110-watt x 5. Does this mean the AVR 8000 only supports 5 speakers? And if I want 7.1 sound I need a seperate amp?

Yes. All of the Harman Kardon 7.1 systems require a seperate amp for the rear surrounds. HK's statement is that they couldn't get 7 channels of amplification into a single case that passed their standards and still keep the receivers a reasonable size and weight. So instead of reducing the overall quality of the amplification they opted for the seperate amplification option.

Thanks. What about the Marantz SD9200? Does it also need a seperate amp for 7.1 or 6.1?

Secondly, does the Harman Kardon AVR 8000 have all the "decoders" of the Denon AVR-4802? Meaning does it have all the different kinds of DTS, Dolby Digital, and THX?

Really? Wow, does that mean their receivers are of excellent quality?

Harman Kardon has always been top notch in my book! The new 8000 has got the THX certification,so that says alot. If I'm correct, they haven't had any certified since the AVR 80 several years ago. And that is a hell of a receiver!

Do you expect the Harman Kardon AVR 8000 to sound as good as the Denon AVR-4802?

One more thing, when I run a DVD or something, the Harman Kardon AVR 8000 will automatically detect whether it is Dolby Digital or DTS, right?
