  1. I went with the single banana plugs. I got them from Knuconcepts.com. They will accept up to 8 gage speaker wire(which is what i got). The wire goes in the one end, there is a set-screw on side to hold it in.
  2. I'm glad someone could clear it up. I'm not that great when it comes to technical details! It does seem weird that LDs can look as good as DVD. It shocked me the first time I watched a DTS LD. I recently got Titanic DTS LD on ebay. I have trying to get it for some time! I should have worn a bib when watching! I was drooling!! Still wanting True Lies & Independence Day in DTS. But both those titles are becoming rare. They usually go for over $100 each. I paid $150 for Titanic. I lucked out on Armageddon. I got it for about $50,long before it became rare. I have seen it go for as high as $200!
  3. jzoz01-go to Telarc's website. They carry a lot of Jazz & Classical. I agree entirely about "1812" giving a system a workout! I had the original 1812 cd, then upgraded to the DVD-Audio version. The upgraded again to the SACD after I got new player. I was completely floored by it! I also have 3 Doors Down and really like it. Also try Wallflowers: Red Letter Days Shania Twain: Up Flim & the B.B.s: Tricyle Bon Jovi: Bounce Bon Jovi: This Left Feels Right Mormon Tabernacle CHoir: Sound of Glory I have others, but can't remember them off the top of my head!
  4. I know in the past, I have seen Yamaha RF Demodulators. If I remember right, they run $100 max. I keep forgetting about it. I need to get one before I can't! I plan on getting new processor before end of year,so will need one.
  5. Since you don't have LD collection already started,I wouldn't invest in it. Now, if you can get a great deal on DTS LD's that are not available on DVD yet, maybe get it. I have benn into LD for about 9 yrs now. Have about 100 titles now. Sound Quality: Many DVDs do not hold a candle to LD. It is compressed too much and you lose quality. DVD has great potential,if the studios new what to do with it. Columbia's SUPERBIT titles are a great example. Video Quality: This is where DVD shines! Except where DTS LD's are concerned. I have several DTS titles on LD, and they are as good as,if not better than their DVD counterpart. For example, I compared Armageddon DTS LD with the Criterion DTS DVD. You can not tell it is LD (til it comes for side change). I still need to get a RF Demodulator. So when I get new processor,I can still use LD, since most new equipment don't have RF inputs. It will take a lot to completely abandon LD.

    Matrix Reloaded

I'm thinking I watched a bad pressing of the DVD. I didn't buy it. I borrowed from friend. I'm glad! Besides not liking the film, the 5.1 mix was terrible!!! For a new film,it has to be the worst mix ever! First, the volume was recorded at a VERY low level. A normal movie I listen to with the volume set at -25. Which is usually loud enough. I turned it up to -20, and it still wasn't up to par. Second was the bass. With the volume far from blaring, the bass was recorded at a HIGH level. I actually turned bass level down(which I never do) to -10. I normally leave this level set at -4. With my two subs,it is enough. Even with it decreased to -10, the bass was still terrible. It didn't fit with the scenes. Wasn't natural at all. Third was the surrounds. I don't recall much action coming from them. Which is unusual since I have full range speakers in back. Has anyone else heard of any complaints about the sound on this DVD? I think it is unusual from WB. Universal,I would expect it.

    T 1

True, the original Terminator on DVD is not perfect. But it is much better than the mono version on the 1st DVD release!
  8. boomer-1812 was released in BOTH versions by Telarc. I bought the DVD-A version since I didn't have SACD at the time.
  9. I agree she is very good! I can't remember how I came across her music, but downloaded some of her songs. Plan on picking up the cd's sometime.
  10. If I could get another set of KLF-30's, I would sell my 5.5's. My plan all along has been to go Legends all around. I know a good pair of 30's go for about $1000-1200,so it might be awhile before I can get them. I will check with my local dealer to see if any customers might have some.
  11. Here's what I did: Bought 4 Street-Glow tubes that are used under cars. Put 3 of them on top of entertainment center. With the trim, they are not seen. I then stuck the forth one behind the tv. Went to Radio Shack and got a 12 volt power supply and 3 y-Adapters,allowing my to plug all 4 into the same unit. I have the power supply underneath. I just reach down and flick one switch and they are all on. They really look cool at night, seeing a green glow on my ceiling!

    Superbit

Whenever I get a Superbit title, I sell the old version to someone that is just getting into home theater and doesn't care. I usually sell my old dvd's for $10. So I recover something.

    Superbit

I love SuperBit! For me, I prefer the quality over bonus materials,so have welcomed the line with open arms. Myself,I have: Fifth Element Resident Evil Air Force One The Patriot Hollow Man The Big Hit Bram Stoker's Dracula Will buy soon xXx Anaconda Bad Boys Mask of Zorro Legends of the Fall Dark Crystal Gattaca Charlie's Angels Looking forward to Starship Troopers! Also I have seen Godzilla available in other region. Hopefully coming to Region 1 soon. IMHO-this should have been one of the 1st titles out in SB! Back in my Dolby Surround days, this was a great disc to show off the system. But after I got into Klipsch, this DVD was disappointing. I actually sold it and replaced it with Laser Disc. Much better DD track! The only one I doubt I will buy is MIB. I have the 1st release with DTS and am happy with it. If a DVD doesn't have DTS,I will replace it with Superbit if available.
  14. After finally buying a SACD player, I picked up 3 discs at Best Buy. Dark Side...,Star Trek Nemesis Soundtrack, and Bon Jovi Bounce. Then Picked up Footloose Soundtrack online. The packaging is clearly labeled. Dark Side & Nemesis were labeled as Hybrids. Bon Jovi & Footloose not. Also Footloose labeled as 2CH,while others said Multi Channel. I decided to try them on friends regular cd player. Was simply amazed at how the hybrids sounded! When I got home I put them in my SACD player and was blown away!! I also have DVD-A. Both are great formats. Aside from having players do both, why not have recievers with 2 sets of 6CH inputs? I believe Sony had a model at one time,if I remember correctly. That way,a consumer could get high quality from having seperates. To get both formats to work for me,I bought 3 audio switchers from Radio Shack. Can't remember model #. But each had 3 inputs with 1 output. What I did was, since I have seperate DD/DTS decoders, labeled switcher #1 as mains. Ran DD/DTS feed into source #1, DVD-A into source #2, SACD into source #3. Then from there to reciever. I then labeled switcher #2 as surrounds, and repeated the same wiring. Switcher #3 was sub/center. So when I want to change formats,I just push the buttons on front of the 3 boxes. I hate to have elcheapo Radio Crack in my system, but it works. It would be nice to see a company build a high quality switcher for this purpose. They could make some good money IMHO.

    titan ae

Yes,Titan A.E. is a helluva flick! Some killer bass as well! The ice scene is amazing! I could watch things sliding off the subs watching it!
  16. Tchiakovsky-1812 from Telarc. The cannons actually change from speaker to speaker! A MUST!!! Hootie & the Blowfish-Cracked Rear View Mannhiem Steamroller-Fresh Aire Disturbed-Believe AWESOME!! Gary Moore-Back to the Blues Handel-The Messiah
  17. Has anybody used any amps by CLASSE AUDIO for Klipsch systems? I haven't, but have the chance to demo a system at a dealer. Had CLASSE amps set up with B&W Nautilus Signature speakers. When first seeing the amps,I thought they were Krell. The sales rep replied,"Krell quality without the Krell price". They sounded great with the B&W's,which are very efficient speakers as well, but have no idea of how they would match with Klipsch. Might be worth looking into.
  18. Yes,the KLF-30s are awesome speakers with a LOT of power! I got my set last summer and have not tired of them yet! Keep an eye on Ebay for them. They appear often. A pair usually goes for less than $1200. I paid $1100 for near mint set.
  19. I agree with Moon on this. Pay extra for some added features. You say you are using it more for music,so make sure it has 6 channel input for DVD-Audio or SACD. Which I believe the 520 does. Without looking at the specs,i can't remember what the differences are. I have hooked up both models for friends and think they are very good pieces. I also agree that for awhile, that HK went a bit mainstream. But think they are trying to get back to what they are noted for.
  20. I agree, you need to judge for yourself. I have never listened to any KSP's,but have had my KLF30's since last June. The only way I would replace them, would be for some Heritage. I LOVE the 30's!! For movies AND music, they rock! I am getting so much bass out of them,I don't need my subs on to shake home!

    XXX

I rented XXX other night and was impressed. I will probably buy it in the next couple of days. The downside of the DVD(besides no DTS), is watching the widescreen version. I think it defeats the purpose of having a widescreen tv. Subtitles and any other text descriptions were under the picture in the bottom bar. I had to set the set back to FULL mode, leaving the black bars. It upsets me that studios do this. Black Hawk Down was the same way. I hope this is not a habit they will continue.
  22. I've had my 1095 since early summer and absolutely love it!! It is a great match with all my speakers. As for sounding bright, maybe on some material. Fatigue-if cranked up(ear bleed level)for a long peroid of time-yes. At reasonable levels,no. Provides great warm sound. It took quite a few movies to get it broken in though. At first I was turning it up and a couple of channels would clip off. But now it doesn't anymore. The only thing I have to worry about is my circuit breaker!

    DTS / DVD's

Finally watched K-19. Awesome! Even in just DD! I'm guessing that Paramount released the wrong info regarding the DVD issue since all the websites selling it listed it as DTS.
  24. Here's some not mentioned yet that I have in my collection: Schlock Caveman See No Evil,Hear No Evil Any Which Way You Can Every Which Way But Loose Private Eyes Don't have but want to order soon: Stir Crazy-Great classic!
  25. I have never been a fan of tradition Christmas music. I prefer the modern versions, especially when done with orchestras. Lately,I have been crazy about Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I love what they have done with it! I saw them in concert last month and was completely blown away! A Christmas concert that rocked! Imagine turning up your Klipsch system till your ears will start to bleed. That is what it sounded like! Crystal clear. Heavy bass I could feel going through my spine and in my chest. I have their 2 Christmas cd's and listen to them a lot. Also like Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas music.
