ahhbee78 Posted January 23, 2002 Share Posted January 23, 2002 just had a real quick question. i know that i need to get a sub in the future but right now i can't afford a nice one and was interested in grabbing a pair of bass shakers to give the feel of bass. the shakers are rated at 4ohm's each(?). yes or no, can i hook these up to my denon 1601 straight away or will i need to find a seperate amp? i dont understand the whole ohm thing and i have tried to grasp what all you guys are saying, but to no avail. if someone wants to give it a try (explain in preschool terms) go for it, but i just wanted to know if i could add these to my setup. t-man Posted January 23, 2002 Share Posted January 23, 2002 I think if you hook them up in series, you can make an 8 ohm load. Not sure about this. The other problem is that if you hook right up to the denon, they will be getting full range signal (that's bad), and will shake at all frequencies instead of just the sub 80 hz frequencies. That's why you need a seperate amp to power the sub out on the denon. Anyway, I have the same Denon, and have a pair of shakers comming shortly. If you wait, I'll let you know how it works. tgourlie Posted January 29, 2002 Share Posted January 29, 2002 Yes tman is right about the 8ohm load. about the full range signal there is a way around it. You are using these as B fronts I assume? I could be wrong. But for the fequency problem you could get a choke coil from radio shack fro a few dollars and hook that up on the positive terminal.
