mustang guy Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I ordered Crites AA rebuild kit today. I will do one of the speakers and leave the other alone and sit between them (in mono mode) and see how big of a difference there is. My La Scalas are 1976's with original AA crossovers. Quote
consistent Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Sonicaps are great caps for the price. Have a look at http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html this guy knbows his caps! Quote
Guest " " Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 It looks like the lowest rating he used was a 6 and the highest rating a 12. He gave the Sonicaps an 8.5. I wonder what his "verdict" criteria is? Quote
Audible Nectar Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 For the simple Heritage networks (A/AA/B/E) the V-Cap OIMP is the best I've used, and I've tried a lot of them: Stock, Motorola replacements (just like old stock but 'fresh", Sonicap whites (good value here and more revealing), Auricaps, Hovlands.....but the V-Caps stand alone. For horns they're just perfect. Expensive, though - but for those who decide that they prefer the simple network formulas (A/AA...) and want the most transparent and revealing network out of that type of build, they are the bees knees......[8-|] And while being that revealing, they are juuuuuuuust "wet" enough to just let the music shine through. Guest " " Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 DItto on the V-Cap OIMP...I have some that I bought from Dean's left over stock. But you could always add a polycarbonate by-pass capacitor to silken up the sound if you think your commercial grade film caps are too harsh. Quote
djk Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I think you mean Polystyrene, not Polycarbonate. I find Polycarbonates to sound 'glassy'. Quote
