SilverSport
Just picked up a Yamaha CA-610 II that I bought new in 1979...it was myfirst "nice piece of audio gear and I was in my first semester ofCollege...this little integrated hosted a lot of parties but it wasalways taken care of...I bought it because it mimicked the McIntoshamps with its Vu meters and I could afford the Yammie...as well as Iliked the "Natural Sound"...Sold it off to my younger brother in 1989 when I moved on to NakamichiSTASIS...and more power...he sold it off to my little sister but hestayed with Yamaha moving on to their digital processors and amps...Two years ago my sister bought a McIntosh MA6200 from me as well assome other items but she lost her job, never would let me deliver theitems or pay for them...I tried to get her to take them and pay mewhenever and I could use the free space at home......today I prevailed...She is listening to McIntosh sound through the MA6200...a Yamahadigital tuner, Yamaha CD player (both now Vintage but working fine) andKlipsch speakers...she chose the kg1s bought by me NOS, in Oiled Oakand small as well as "pretty."...some things don't change...As I was packing away her Bose 301s and other ancient or non workinggear I saw my old Yamaha CA-610 II...dusty as heck...knobs all yuckybut all in all looking decent...no knocks, dings or dents...I noticedshe had the left speaker hooked up to channel A and the right speakerhooked up in channel B...she said that one of my speakers stops workingfrom time to time...okay says I...what do you want to do with it...goahead and take it outta here...Got home...took off the knobs...took off the wood case...gave theinterior a blast with compressed air...probably the first timeever...then a DeOxit of everything that should get the treatment...moveeverything around...another spritz but this time with DeOxitGold...wipe everything down...use a Q-Tip in the smaller spaces...cameout pretty nice...no scratches...let dry and then put it all backtogether...a little Orange Glow on the wood cabinet...get it ready tofire up...check all knobs, switches, dials...Vumeters...sweet...everything appears right! Now I know this isn't a real fair test...I hooked this 45wpc amp upwith a Toshiba 3990 for a CD player and hooked this to my CornwallClones but I want to check this out...it hasn't been Home since1989...19 years is a l-o-n-g time...I grab a Diana Krall disc...she is manytimes my go-to-girl as in myopinion a nice mix of sounds with way down bass and high highs as wellas a good chance to hear if it is "bright."...so many claim Yamaha andKlipsch are bright together...I never thought so but I remember thesales guy saying this to me when he sold me the Nakamichi...and hewould have no reason to lie...right???...Man does this sound good...it looks about a 9...sounding real nice andno channel drop off...perhaps it was a loose speaker wire...I don't usethe 22 gauge they gave her with her BOSE (okay, maybe it was thickerbut only to 20 gauge then...)I don't think she will be seeing this again!Rock On!Bill

jamesV
Bill, Great to hear that you got reunited with the old family member and things haven't changed, except for the speakers. Also great to hear the you are enjoying the clones that you picked up. I just received a H/K 930 that my buddy picked up, at a very good price. So I will be looking forward to cleaner that thing up and give a listen to. My gf wants me to show her how it clean it up including the use of DeOxit, man she's great. SilverSport
She is and is a keeper...glad you recognize that as wel...as for DeOxit...works great...might I recommend protective glasses when working...getting into real tight spots...mental picture of me doing this and getting the splash back right in the eye...fun!... This morning I am listening a bit more and I kept hearing the music stop and start...worried my clean up and fix might not be enough I went back downstairs and watched for a bit...%(&)*@ Toshiba SD-3990 I am using on it as a CD player...not the amp...known for the "drop offs" in between songs...thanks again and take care! jamesV
Boy did I know she was a keeper long ago, when I went to order the RF-83 she wanted me to get the K-horns instead. I almost broke down into tears after hearing that. Thanks for the advice for the eye wear, I wear glasses so that is not much of a problem. Take care and happy listening. James BTW, I just turned on the CW's myself for some listening time.
