streyle
I bought some caps from Bob Crites a while ago and I'm finally getting ready to recap the Cornwalls...anyone have a simple guide to doing this?
Groomlakearea51
Easy way... remove the crossovers. Cut the wires to one of the old caps as close to the cap as possible; replace that one first (reason? - you can't get anything mixed up, etc.). Strip about 1/2" off the wires, and get a piece of 1/4" "shrink tubing". Slide that over the wire and out of the way. Then make a "loop" on the wire and put the other wire through the loop, and make the connection between the wires tight. Then solder that section, then slide the shrink tubing over the soldered wires, and use a small heat gun (I like the butane grill lighter for that) and "shrink" the tubing. Then do each cap after that. Takes about 1/2 hour or so. If you are uncomfortable about soldering, you can use crimp on male/female spade terminals to connect the wires. Not the most desirable way, but if you choose that route, make sure the male/female spade connection is tight. Hope that's of some assistance.
