  1. Thanks for the suggestions!
  2. Hah, well honestly, these speakers will be used to rock, but not party. I'm very much concentrated on the sound quality. If the Cornwalls or Fortes (what are the main differences?) offer better sound quality than the B3's, then great. I've never heard them, so I wouldn't know. But if you think they're that great, sure, I'm willing to go through the process of selling these and buying a new pair of speakers. I just took a look on ebay and it looks like the Cornwalls are a little on the pricey side. Shipping is obviously astronomical and the starting bids on some of them are outrageous. The Fortes seem so be cheaper... why? But hey, if you guys really think I'll be happier selling these rather than just buying a subwoofer, I appreciate your input.
  3. OK, so I definitely got an awesome internship this summer that pays pretty well and upgrading my system is definitely on the order. I currently have a pair of B3's that are pretty outstanding for the price that I paid for them and they basically replaced my PM4.1's and became my "college" setup. They don't have quite as much bass without the dedicated subwoofer of the 4.1's, but they have a much better overall sound, plenty of balls, and way more detail. What they are definitely lacking is low bass. The fact is, the two 6.5" drivers manage to put out a pretty disgusting amount of bass and it already sounds like I'm using a subwoofer, but I listen to a lot of pipe organ music, and the really low frequencies just don't really come out that well without boosting the really low lows in foobar. I can't really feel the 32's in my gut like I can in real life. A subwoofer would easily fix that problem. Also, I love bass. Who doesn't? Right now, I'm running these from the Sonic T-amp. It's got enough power to drive these, but if I push it, it easily starts to clip and distort, so I'm looking into some kind of amp upgrade. Recommendations there would be appreciated. I do not want to spend too much on the amp. I use my parents' Pioneer SX-3700 when I'm at home, which is a vintage Pioneer 45 WPC beast that really powers these speakers well. However, for obvious reasons, I don't want to take it to college. Basically what I mainly want to do is really juice up my sound system. I'm moving into an apartment next year and I'll have a lot of room. I'm either going to sell the B3's and just go with some big ol floorstanders like the F3's (which I've heard... they were really impressive), or just chuck these on a stand, and buy a subwoofer (such as the corresponding sub-10 or sub-12 subwoofers). I'd appreciate guidance in that regard. I mean, this could go in many directions. There's loads of Klipsch speakers on ebay at pretty great prices, plus the occasional craigslist listing with some great Klipsch gear. I could go crazy, and I need to ask here first before I do! I'm going to be making plenty of money this summer so I'm flexible in that regard, but I'll have plenty of other expenditures in the upcoming transition-to-apartment stage here, so I wouldn't like to just go crazy and spend thousands on this. Recommendations with ranging price ranges would be helpful. I've tried posting asking for help in this manner before, but I didn't get much help, and I didn't have any money at the time. This time is better. Thanks a lot.
  4. You probably have the v2.400 system. You can find replacement control pods on ebay - just do a search for promedia 4.1 or CP-1.
  5. The B3's are indeed pretty efficient, but my experience thus far with the 8 WPC T-amp suggests that even 8 watts isn't enough - trust me, the volume doesn't get anywhere near 94 db, even with that kind of wattage. I appreciate the suggestion, though, but I am an experienced Head-Fi'er, so I know a headphone amp probably isn't going to do me.
  6. Listen, not only is that thing only 1.2WPC, which is woefully inadequate, but it's $800, and I'm looking for an amp around $100.
  7. Which "T-amp" are you referring to? If you can do it, all of the Rogue Audio tube amps are great, and you won't run out of power. Regarding tubed headphone amps, I was referring mainly to some from Cayin, Antique Sound Labs, Singlepower, and Berning (OTL). The Op-amp-based headphone amps would probably not be a good match with any Klipsch speaker. You're right, too, that the headphone amps may need to operate closer to their maximum output levels, but there are some that might have more power than others. Given the price and tweekability, I think some are probably worth a try. The T-amp I am referring to is the one made by Sonic Impact. The problem is, I don't even know how this (using a headphone amp) is possible. Some of the most powerful headphone amps designed to power the likes of the AKG K1000 only go up to 12 mW of output. With speakers, you need huge amounts of power, many orders of magnitude greater, on the order of tens of Watts. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
  8. Bill H, that's the amp that whell mentioned? Sure, of course I'd be interested. Give me the model number, though, so I can do a little more research on it first. Thanks for the suggestions, though, guys. Seaster, I was already using the portable T-amp, though, which has a roughly 8 watt RMS output, I believe, and the problem with that amp was that it didn't have enough power. I was using it at the upper end of its operating spectrum some of the time, and the fidelity was terrible at that output level. In fact, the music would actually sound better when it was whisper-quiet than when it was a comfortable level. I'd be fine with a lower-powered amp, just not one as low-powered as the T-amp.
  9. Both of those suggestions look a little out of my price range. Anyone else have any ideas?
  10. Pretty self-explanatory. I've burned through enough T-amps (two) and I'm done with those. Looking for a permanent, budget replacement. It's going in a dorm, so the smaller the better, but heck, if it sounds better and it's bigger, I'll take it. I only need a two-channel obviously. I found this curious amp on amazon.com. It looks pretty minimalist, perhaps what I might be looking for. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B00026BQJ6/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/103-3514800-7259834?ie=UTF8&customer-reviews.sort%5Fby=-SubmissionDate&n=172282 Suggestions?
  11. Seriously, no matter where I look, I can't find a place where you can buy this sucker online. My T-amp hisses and is a pretty weak amp overall, so basically, I'm looking to replace it, and the Teac looks like it would be a good choice. Not if I can't buy it, that is! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  12. How would I go about finding one of those?
  13. Real old thread, but I need to bump it to ask this: where can you buy the Teac A-L700P at this point? I can't find a place.
  14. I'm content with my B3 and T-amp setup in college right now, but I need a sub for next semester so I can really hit the deep notes when it counts (I'm also going to ditch the T-amp... this is the second one and it's been nothing but trouble). So it looks like basically some people are happy with their sub-10's, others have problems (but probably a small fraction). Problem to me seems to be that the sub-10 is so expensive. It's $399 after all, which isn't outrageous considering what you get, but I'd love to be able to get it for significantly less. I read a thread where a guy got some huge discount, like 50% at some Best Buy near him, and that would be awesome to say the least, although what he got was a little outrageous. The fact that it costs more than the B3's did is what seems to be a little weird to me. But anyway, if any of you guys have recommendations for another sub or any kind of input on this situation, I'd appreciate it. My main concern right now is that the sub-10 is going to be too powerful for a dorm environment, and that I would end up stuffing it somewhere awkward like right next to me on the floor.
  15. Probably better just to find a CP-1. Look on ebay, I see them there all the time.
  16. Yup, basically that's it. Klipsch designs them, Chinese make them. Listening to my B3's right now as we speak. They're not bad at all, and they're a tremendous value for the money.
  17. Wow, that's a great pair of speakers! Totally above and beyond the norm on ebay in terms of Heresys. I'm totally rooting for you also!
  18. Well, I got them. What the heck is wrong with these things? There's no subwoofer around... but where's all this bass coming from?!?!
  19. By the B3's, I mean the B3's from the new Klipsch Synergy III line. Check them out, they're on the main website.
  20. Sorry to double post, but I'm still looking to purchase these. It turns out my local Best Buy doesn't have them and the closest one that does is an hour away, so I'm going to buy online at this point. Is there a coupon I can enter to get free shipping from Best Buy? I know they've advertised it before, so I don't know why it's showing up as $27.00 for ground shipping all of a sudden. Oh, and my local Best Buy has basically forsaken Klipsch. They got their displays up and even put a new one up, but they're not making a big deal of it and there weren't any employees on the floor in the area of the Klipsch display to answer my questions. The guy I found to ask my question to didn't even seem to know what they were.
  21. What does the stock one look like? That picture isn't showing up.
  22. That would make more sense, yes, but I need a compact size since these will be going to college with me in the fall.
  23. I just saw them last week for like $280 on Best Buy and now they're back up to normal. What dictates when they're on sale, and how can I get the best price on them? I think I'd like to buy from Best Buy in case I want to return them.
  24. You can buy new control pods from Klipsch, and sometimes on ebay. You'll need a new one.
  25. I got one, another organ CD: "The great organ of Saint Patrick's Cathedral" lots of people have mixed feelings about that instrument, but regardless, I like the CD. Great quality, and a nice, reverberant cathedral.
