  1. In researching older Dave Brubeck albums (LP's) I ran across "2 eye" and "6 eye" recordings. Are these for mono and stereo or 1950's and 1960's or what? Maybe someone can help clarify for me. Thanks from here in Minnesota. (nos valves restored Scott 299 W/Forte 2's)
  2. I have an older Teac that has front and rear channels but it only decodes and splits the sound when all 4 speakers are connected. From the cd player I am running a Scott 299 to Forte II's for the main (front) channel. I also have it wired to play through the Teac 2 main channels and the rear surround channels. In order to get the volume up on the rear channels to hear the surround, the front channels of the Teac are trying to compete with the Klipsches'. Is there some way to bypass the front speakers by splicing in an 8 ohm resistor or something so I can have the 2 Forte's running the front and the Teac running just the 2 rear surrounds? UPDATE: Replaced front (A) speakers from the Teac with a 1uF Electrolytic Capacitor from radio shack (99 cents) Back of bubble card says: non polarized, for speaker crossover 10Hz at 8 ohms,50 volt max,axial leads. These work great! Now from all sources,(vinyl,dish,cd,etc) as long as there is a stereo signal I can control the 2 main speakers with the Scott and I have infinate volume control over the 2 rear (surround) speakers using the Teac.

I work for a computer company that makes the suspension that holds the read/write head for your hard drive and right now business is so good we're being asked to work 60 hours/week. I am a tool and die maker. This may have nothing to do with the forum question but it does everyone good to know that many U.S. companies are rebounding. Will get back with results later!   4. I also have a problem with picking up a local radio station through speakers. Could you please explain to this novice what you mean by putting RFI clips on something to remedy?? Thanks!!

Thats why you have to have a signal out to all 4 speakers in order to get the surround mode. Otherwise it just acts like a speaker selection box.

I have found that although there is a "sweet spot" exactly inbetween the speakers, the horns tend to seperate the channels and kind of bounce around the room so that even if you are sitting way off to the side you can still differenciate(sp) between the channels. I had some old fisher speakers in the living room and then some auxillary speakers wired in the kitchen, (The A&B thing) but now I just run the Klipsch's in the living room and they find their way to the kitchen without turning up the volume. I'm no audio engineer but I assume the horns just have the ability to bounce sound around corners etc. Our expert moderators would maybe have some input on this. Take care!!
  8. I too have recently acquired a set of forte 2's and what impresses me is that I have some of the same recordings as you and I too think they are great. One addition I have is anything recent by Paul Simon. All the way from "Graceland" to his most recent with "You're the One" on it. The drums along with the superb engineering really make those Klipsch's shine!! Also Dave Brubecks "Time Further Out" has a great drum solo by Joe Morello. I am trying to get some more CD's with HORNS such as Chicago or Blood, Sweat and Tears 'cause horns reproduce horns much better than fibre speakers ever can. Happy listening!!!

  10. Upon deciding to purchase a pair of Forte's I made it a point to look only under "regions" on E-bay. I live an hour away from Mpls./St.Paul and although it took a lot of patience on my part for a pair to go on sale, I was determined to wait for something I could pick up in person with the cash in my hand. I guess I was more worried about shipping damage than the integrity of the seller, but I am glad I waited. An honest seller should have no problem letting you "pay upon pickup". It appears that in most cases of tube amps, vintage gear, and speakers etc. they do cycle around E-bay within a reasonable time period. However if you live in the boonies this advice won't help.
  11. Thanks Greg. I have a real el-cheapo turntable with a needle type thus the need for a turntable as well. I guess a good idea would be to scroll through what others may be using and then price same. Lots of turntables out there for D.J. purposes. These are probably made to put your finger on and jog back and forth!!! I tried that once with Led Zeppelin and it didn't do a thing for me!! Besides we already encoded all the sublimital messages by playing the Beatles backwards in the 60's!! I just want something that goes 33 1/3 in ONE direction!!! (Insert big smile here)
  12. I have a cheap turntable I would like to update. I certainly can't swing a top of the line set, but maybe around $200 for a turntable and cartridge. Is that reasonable for connecting to tubes and Forte's or should I expect to pay more. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!
  13. I am also getting a 299D ready to send to Craig. Have been happy with my Forte 2's already, but you will have to post the results of your combo. I'm sure I won't get the 299 connected to mine for awhile. Garymd wrote a reply about us ending up in a Klipsch Kommune somewhere. We will have beer won't we???
  14. Bought a set of Forte II's and I can't believe the way they sound. I also bought a Scott 299 but haven't even gone through it to see if it works yet. I thought that a tube amp would almost be a must but I have a cheap 'ol Teac AV amp (bought for about $100) that has front and rear channels but no 5.1 or anything and those forte's have all my friends in awe!! I expected that maybe they would sound "squaky" but in actuality the cymbals and brass come through extremely realistic! So I was thinking, how else would you reproduce the sound of a horn other than sending it through a horn. Makes sense to me!!
  15. Being new to horns and tubes I really appreciate the info. I'm sure more questions will arise and I'll have to bother someone again! I just wish I had more time to read all the archives in this forum. There is probably a treasure of knowledge waiting to be digested by us newbies!
  16. Having recently purchased a Scott 299D I am unsure if the 7591 or 7591A is the best tube. I do realize that the height of the tubes may only allow me to run naked without a case. That's fine. Sound over sight any day! Thanks for any info.
  17. As a newbie I think a SIMPLE faq section would work o.k. as long as it wasn't too indepth. One would think that it may have to be broken up into a 2 channel section and a HT section. If you poor knowledgeable experts are asked the same question 50 or 100 times it would become a candidate for the FAQ thus saving you a lot of hassle. Some questions I've seen discussed here are already answered on the Klipsch site. (ie: What bi-amping and bi-wiring are) So the problem may be getting people to read through the FAQ before asking a dumb question. What questions I have asked on this forum were quickly addressed and although it may seem to you like "Here we go again with THAT question" it really makes an impression to have a personable answer as opposed to searching and clicking trying to find the BEST fitting answer to your problem.   20. I see there are some 299D's for sale. As I am just starting to get into tube amps I don't think I want the pre-amp mono block set up just yet. Are the 299D's a decent integrated tube amp for high efficiency speakers? Thanks!! Sayles in Minnesota.
  21. Thanks for the help. I am an old klipsch fan but a 'new guy on the block' in this forum venture. I can already see I will be learning a great deal by interpreting opinions and trying to decipher all the 'tech talk'. Glad to be a part of this B.S.!! (stands for 'better sound' of course!)
  22. Speaking only of sound quality not price, how do the RF-7's compare musically to some of the vintage Chorus, Forte, and other speakers? Would there be any advantage to run tube amps on new reference speakers? I am most interested in a 2 channel system.
