  1. My XPA-2 and 5 are silent. I have not walked over and put my ear to the tweeter but there is no hiss 5+ feet away that I can detect. I even turned the volume up and still didn't hear anything.
  2. Well with the problems they had with their first processor I understand them taking their time and releasing this one 100%. I can't wait for the UMC, I'll be buying it as soon as it's ready.
  3. I am running RF-7s just like you are and I can assure you an Emotiva XPA-2 will knock your socks off. So will the XPA-5 and XPA-3. You went from a 4802 "125 watts" to a 3805 "120 watts" for a few months and everything was muffled. Emotiva's XPA-2 pumps out over 300 watts of clean power. The clarity, seperation, bass, everything is just better. It's really not even fair to compare them.
  4. Nice, nothing better than getting new gear! Let us know how you like them.
  5. This should help ease your worries about ordering Emotiva. Audioholics just gave Emotiva's XPA-2 stereo amplifier of the year! Read about it here. http://www.audioholics.com/buying-guides/product-awards-and-gift-guides/audioholics-2008-product-awards
  6. Well nothing sounds like a McIntosh. They have a sound of their own and they are pretty expensive as well. Comparing a $699 Emotiva XPA-5 to a $6500.00 McIntosh MC205 is a bit silly IMO. When comparing Emotiva to let's say Parasound, B&K, Outlaw and the like then we are talking. The price point with the Emotiva makes it a no brainer. I think perhaps your unit was that of a B stock quality because the two I just received are flawless.
  7. I need the processor when it comes out so I can enjoy the Blu-ray DolbyHD and DTSHD. I also would like their CD player when it comes out. I'm sure something else will come out that I can use too! Thank you!
  8. The first thing I played was Nine Inch Nails Live in Blu-ray. Talk about awesome! Then I played Flight of the Phoenix. The crash scene put a big smile on my face, lol. I am still using my HK as the Pre so the sound signature is still the same pretty much from what I can tell. The difference is how much authority these amps give the RF-7s. I went from 50 watts a channel to 250 on the fronts and 200 on the other 5. I have never heard anything like it. Crystal clear sound with chest thumping bass that rattles your bones! Everyone that has been over so far is totally blown away. I am hooked on Emotiva now. I'll be buying lots of stuff from them in the future. These amps have to be one of the best buys in audio right now. At $699.00 with free shipping it's just a steal.
  9. They came a few days early so I must have been really good this year! I love these amps btw. Emotiva and Klipsch sound very good together.
  10. I would do this asap. It is possible that you need a new unit. These things happen from time to time. Klipsch will take care of you either way. I know that it will be hands down better than the Bose once you get it worked out.
  11. It took me awhile to find the thread again. Here is the link. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/37223.aspx?PageIndex=1
  12. Ok thanks. I was looking at the pics of your modded crossovers, What capacitor did you put in the LF section? Also, is a 12 and 5uF OK to use in place of the 18uF that's in the HF section or is it better to get the 18uF 400v 1.93x1.95?
  13. I am ordering Auricaps 5.000 µFd. 10% 200V 1.10 X 1.17 and 12.000 µFd. 10% 200V 1.40 X 1.53 to do the upgrades. What resistor should I use?
  14. I went with a Samsung LCD over plasma due to the burn in you can get so easily with the plasma and due to the shorter life span on the plasma. I didn't notice much of a difference in picture quality between a plasma and LCD personaly so the LCD seemed like a no brainer.
  15. Yes. When I bought my new Samsung 1080p LCD I bought the Sony 500 Blu-ray player with it and the difference is night and day watching a Blu-ray movie. They say the sound is too but I am still waiting to purchase a pre/po that has all the new audio formats. The picture quality is out of this world.
  16. Get something cheap and wait for the Emotiva pro to come out. The UMC-1 looks like it's going to be really nice and it should be here this year and the XMC-1 should be really sweet but it's going to be awhile. Other than that I prefer HK to both Denon and Onkyo myself but they are all capable receivers.
  17. Yup, that's how it starts. I now have 3 sets of RF-7s with all kinds of other goodies and when I started I just wanted a nice pair of speakers. It sucks you in though! Can't wait to start stacking the Emotiva gear! If you're thinking about adding a amp, I think you should also look at Emotiva. Probably the best bang for the buck besides the pro gear. http://www.emotiva.com/xpa2.feature.html
  18. I'd like to hear more about the KLF-30's vs the RF-83's. You prefer the KLF-30's? What are the differences?
  19. Yes. The HK will sound good too. Even at 35 watts it will still crank those speakers to levels you can't listen to for very long. HK's 35 watts is the same as most brands 50-75 watts.
  20. I don't know if Yamaha changed their amps in their receivers over the past 4-5 years but when I bought my RF-7s the Yamaha receivers out at that time were very bright to me. The Harman Kardon was much warmer on the RF-7s. I think the new Klipsch are a little more laid back then the RF-7 so maybe it's a non issue these days but back then it was widely known that Yamaha wasn't a great match for RF-7s and I guess RF-5s fall into that category. Try to demo some receivers if you can. It's possible that the newer Yamaha's don't sound as bright either, I'm a bit out of the loop on the latest receivers.

Looking at your gear I would think the sound is pretty good. To me the 25" TV should be the biggest focus for your theater room right now. It needs to be upgraded the most IMO. If you just can't swing a better picture right now then I agree with the previous posters, room treatment or a DIY sub.
  22. Go with the RF-7s, you will love them. Denon is a solid choice as well. Try to get your hands on an RC-7 for a center to perfectly match the RF-7.
  23. Yes it's not apples to apples. My HK is at a higher price point.
  24. HK makes awesome receivers. I have an HK that is 50x7 watts and a Denon that is 75x7 watts and my HK just kills the Denon. I would imagine your new HK with 75x7 will be pretty serious. Not to mention the HK sounds warmer than the Denon IMO.
  25. I have the Sony BDP-S500: Dolby® TrueHD, dts®-HD Bitstream out over HDMI™ The future of surround sound arrives with Blu-ray Disc technology. With the BDP-S500, you can enjoy incredible new audio codecs from both Dolby Laboratories and Digital Theater Systems (dts). Simply by connecting your Blu-ray Disc player to the HDMI connection on your A/V Receiver, the BDP-S500 can either output or internally decode Dolby TrueHD & dts-HD.- It plays everything except MP3 discs that I burn. Other than that it plays everything I have tried on it. On a side note, I guess I need to buy a new reciever that can read TrueHD and dts-HD? My HK 325 is old school these days.
