  1. Thanks again everyone and.... Just finished watching U-571 and Fight Club. OMG, I know many people say the SVS have more impact than the RSW-15... but dear god almight how much do you need. I think this sub is going to be the end of my house :-) I don't even have it up all the way.... I am scared :-) Anyways, the sub was well worth the wait, I enjoyed my system for many many many months without a sub, I watched so many movies in amazment at what I missed the first time I saw them. Now I get to do it all over again, with the subwoofer. BTW, I am on spring break.... muwahahahahaha, 7 more days of subwoofer action here I come!!!!

    HELP!

<------ idiot The interconnect wasn't plugged "fully" into the reciever, it snapped about 1 millimeter more in and started working. :-(

    HELP!

Just got RSW-15 home today And it doesn't appear to be doing anything.... what can I check. The reciever says there is a sub, I got that far
  4. Thanks everyone :-) And I know there will always be someone better, I just consider myself lucky. As I think we all should Home Theater is a luxury.
  5. I am getting my RSW-15 tomorrow, I know i have mentioned it a few times. This is the last time i promise(don't hurt me) Every one needs to congradulate me :-) afterall Reference 7 + RSW-15 in college... and I have 0 debt. Granted parents are helping for college :-) I am lucky indeed. Any suggestions on how to set it up, I am going to try to use a DVD calibration disk but I still don't have the SPL meter. :-( So, fight club is going to be the first movie played. What should I play after that???? Suggestions?
  6. :-) Well thanks for the tip. I am always learning something of this forum. I am really new to home theater so my system improves like every month without any cash just because I read this forum all the time :-)
  7. Set the crossover frequency to 40 Hz??? wow... glad you said something, I was going to set it to like 80 :-) I am using Denon 3803 so I belive i have the option of 40,60,80,100,120
  8. I agree with Fight Club That is the first movie I am watching when I get my sub home MARCH 6th!!!!! can't wait
  9. I will,in a few days.Just got a working set of Monsoon PlanarMedia14.All ok Review this thursday, not before.Playing Ultima Underworld and Underworld 2,great oldies.Just finished Stygian Abyss today, took me two days to finish...12hour/day marathons! What great games WOW I am gone two days and this thread still hangs on! I just found that post.... OMG YOU RULE!!!!!! Ultima Underworld are the greatest games ever. I am not sure I ever beat Stygian Abyss, like I found the girl or whatever but the game didn't end... so I am not 100% sure. Also, dude do you still play that in DOS, or have you actually found a version taht works in windows, if so TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET IT :-) sorry, I just love that game and so many people have no clue what they are missing cause it wasn't as popular as it should have been.
  10. NP, chris :-) I have a friend that owns all three systems so if you have any other questions just ask. I thought plasmas had a way to repair themselves from burn in?? I heard it was a huge problem in the earlier plasmas but that they are much much better and they have used some cool technology to fix themselves. From what I have heard I would be more comfortable using a Game system on a plasma than my Rear Screen Projection which I do quiet frequently. But, I don't sit down and play video games for 3+ hours in a row anymore...hehe I do know very little about plasma tvs though so don't take my word :-)
  11. I know a little not a lot.... But, I believe all systems are component capable. I am almost positive none have DVI. (Visual) X-box has best graphics, Nintendo secon,d PS2 worst. X-box has 480p(know for sure) 780p(maybe?) and 1080i(know for sure stuff PS2 I am not sure even is widescreen compatable. (Audio) EVERY x-box game is in dolby digital!!! Nintendo uses Pro-Logic 2. Most PS2 games are stereo, but some are in DTS. Personally I don't like the PS2, many many many people do though. I think for a 4 year old I would get a Nintendo GameCube. Nintendo has many games that aren't blood and guts... Mario anything :-) Nintendo targets the younger generation and I think that would be your best choice. Gamecube also has very good graphcics and sound and is very good for young kids. X-box is more for older people.... I know gamecube and x-box has wireless controllers, that both work very well. I don't follow PS2 as much anymore so I can't say. Hope that helps!
  12. The RSW-15 has a built in amp correct? So just hooking it up with a sub cable to my Denon 3803 it should work perfectly? right?
  13. X-box all the way. GameCube if its for someone 10 or younger. PS2... umm no progressive scan, no HDTV, no surround sound(except for a few EA games), and only 2 controller ports, no hard drive. X-Box = my choice.
  14. I agree with everything The Ear said. Except, I feel if your going to get close a 3Ghz computer. I would cough up the extra green for 512 ram. It makes a HUGE difference, especially if your running Windows XP. I have had very very good luck with Asus motherboards. They even had very close to the best benchmark test a little over a year ago. I made a very inexpensive computer with a Asus nForce Board. Inegrated audio/video/network. GeForce 2 isn't bad for a integrated video card. Plus, integrated Dolby Digital on the sound card.... Can't beat that. Also, the nForce leaves plenty of room to upgrade for the future. I highly recommended the old nForce boards from about a year ago, I would look into them now if you decide to build your own PC.
  15. What I said at first was completely wrong no they are not completely equal. But the core operating system is the same. I was not clear on what I said, and for that I appologize. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/unix/ Just read that, they obviously know more than everyone else here, they made the OS. But, I doubt Apple would plaster "Based on UNIX" everywhere. If they had no relation....
  16. Just like I said... "No they aren't exactly the same but the commands are the same the CORE of the operating system is the exact same. File structure same." Windows File structure is totally different and so its even the way it loads applications in general. Windows is also different on the way it handle the readers/writers problem. But Unix,Linux,BSD, all of those handle it the exact same way. I don't think its coinsidence that those opperating systems all do it the same way unless they were formed from each other. Let me repeat no they aren't EXACTLY the same, but I still feel that Mac got its core OS from Linux/Unix. The Core is what makes an OS!!! Its not system calls, or User Interfaces. At least in my book, but I guess Programmers look at things differently :-/
  17. "At the foundation of Mac OS X lies an industrial-strength UNIX-based core operating system that delivers unprecedented stability and performance." that quote is from Apples website... Mac OS X might not be linux... or unix... but they say the same thing about Mandrake and RedHat... Mac OS X is just a cool user interface slapped on Unix. also....linx = unix = FreeBSD FreeBSD might as well be Unix. All Free BSD is, is a more stable more updated version of Unix that was developed at Berkley. No they aren't exactly the same but. The commands are the same the CORE of the operating system is the exact same. File structure same. I mean just go to http://www.bsd.org/ And in no way do I mean anything bad by that, I think combining Unix with Mac is one of the brightest things they could have ever done. I know more people who own macs now than everyone one of them bought it because of the new Unix based OS.

Sorry :-( Just a little proud of it thats all :-) GO HOKIES!! and by the way its the 3rd fastest in the world :-) Cost them little over 5 million dollars, while the 4th fastest computer in the worls cost over 200 million dollars. If you would like to watch the video http://www.apple.com/hardware/video/virginiatech/
  19. I can't stand apple.... very avid computer user but I can't stand apple.... PLEASE READ ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apple is much better since they started using linux.... granted... I honestly think linux is a much better system compared to windows... since apple is based on linux. I can't deny I think apple is a very secure and great system. Problem I have with a Apple PC, is why not just go linux.... its free.... Secondly, why go Apple when all you get is less than one tenth the products that appear on a windows machine.... Apple's problems are not with its operating system or its hardware... it is with its software.......
  20. I just came to the same question a month ago.... My signature won't move to multiple lines for some reason, but if you read it It says March 6th for my RSW-15 :-) I am So Excited!!!! I heard so so many good things about SVS it was a tough choice. I heard the SVS was much better for movies and got much deeper and a much bigger punch. But, I also heard the RSW-15 was better for music and very clear. Granted I never listened to a SVS :-( so all my opinions take with a grain of salt, I am sure if anyone knows which is better its TheEar :-) But, another big kicker was the Cherry color..... Got to match the rest of my system. Plus the cherry is so pretty. The other kicker was I can't and won't be able to demo a SVS... although I know everyone on here knows more than me.... I like to hear stuff before I buy it. Same reason I own a Denon instead of Harmon Kardon. I don't think you will be dissapointed with either product based on everything I have read. Correct me if I am wrong......... anyone
  21. I actually asked the same question when I was shopping for prices :-) My local dealer wouldn't give me more than 10% of retail even if i bought THE WHOLE SET. bastards lost a $3000 sale I feel bad cause i don't remember who it was :-( but a guy on this website said this and I quote "If you really want to know about the 1300 price on the RF-7s, well there is a small catch. I got a deal for my 3 series stuff because i bought it all at once, so now everything I buy there i get a discount on. I belive the price was 1365 about a year ago. The place is in Dover Delaware in the Sound of Tri-State and talk to Larry. The street is Route 13 or Dupont. I belive he works Tuesdays threw Saterday unless his boss changed it. The only way to get the deal from him I belive would be to buy the whole set, and you can get the 15 for 1400. Also, yes, this is from an Authorized dealer."
  22. I bought my RF7's RC7 and RS7's for $2900 from an authorized dealer. I would recommend the same... basically thats $300 for the Klipsch warranty I thought it was worth it.
  23. I can imagine Alienwares laptops having problems... actually I haven't used one but, they cram way to much into a small machine. Their desktops are the opposite they give you more fans than normal. The case is bigger than normal(harder to heat up a larger area). The airflow is incredible(air flows in and out of the case very well). Because they tie all the coords down and push them out of the way. My computer runs incredibly cool, cause alienware slapped 6 fans in my Case :-) But, again I can see alienwares laptops having major issues. Alienware is the first PC I got where I was just absolutely amazed at its stability. Normally I can run any machine into the ground :-) Even one I made myself :-( Everyone is correct though if your a hands on type of person. You can build it yourself, its not complicated.
  24. ---------------- If you are referring to Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq... I would say they are all going to be relativly close. If it were me? I'd most likely go Dell. They seem to have the best bang for the buck these days. ---------------- Alienware(what I have) more expensive definately but very solid proucts, best speed and performance. You will probably never have any issues with an alienware. Alienware has its ups... but for the general user its probably not what you want. Dell, has very good computers with solid speeds. Generally very little problems. Gateway, tends to give you more extras, very good speakers, very good monitors, basically just very good Peripherals. So you generally pay a little extra.... Also there are Generally very little problems. HP, I have had good computers and bad, they can be solid or not Compaq = bad, very very bad, stay away. Might be different now that HP owns them, but I have had and heard NOTHING but horror storys its not worth it. My first hobby is PCs so I know a bunch. I am also computer science major at Virginia Tech. Also if your looking for just a cheapo computer I think dell has a "special" if you want me to look it up its like a PC for $300. No monitor im sure... but still thats cheap! If you have any other questiosn, just ask, like I said I know a lot about PCs and I can help with anything.
