  1. The weak link in your speakers is the RC-35. I understand size constraints, however if you can, please find a way to get the RC-7. Also for roughly $500 you could get the RF-7's and use a phanthom center. I think the RF-7's and the RF-5's are as different as night and day. Basically the RF-5 is a RF-3 on steroids. Having said all of that the most important question is do you like your system and how it sounds? If you do then forget about what you read and what anyone says. Afterall you just have to please yourself and those around you.
  2. I do not think any of the reference series finishes look rich. Mine are done in black so as to blend into the background minimizing being a piece of furniture. However it is all personal preference. I do love the B & W cherry finish. That isone I would have in a different color.
  3. I used to have a RC3 on my main system. It sounded very "thin". I switched it out for a an RC7 and the difference is night and day. I still have the RC3 on my secondary system which I would love to get rid of. Go with the RC7 and don't worry about timbre matching!
  4. I will have to admit that I love the yamaha "sound". I do not care for the front effects as I could not tell a huge difference with them on or off. I also dislike 6.1 and would rather have a 7.1 set-up. Having said that, I am leaning to ordered the Denon 4802R. Tomorrow I will audition the 3803 on the Klipsch speakers to see if I like it.
  5. I would go with the RF-3II's but not give more than $400 used.
  6. OK, Friday evening my second Yamaha Rx-V3300 fried! On my first one The right channel just quit working. On this unit, the rear channel was not working and when examining the rear of the unit it "clicked" off in a puff of smoke. My delima...The dealor will allow me to get a Denon 4802 for a replacement if I would like for a few hundred dollars. I really, really, like the Yamaha product but am wondering if I should go witrh the Denon product. When I originally went this route they told me the Yamaha was more user friendly with more DSP's but they also said the Denon had a better build quality. What would you do.
  7. Insurance Company = For Profit I have dealt with these companies for years on many different claims. Many times I will replace an item myself so as not to hassle and eventially raise my rates. An Example, Lightening caused about $3,000 of damaged to many electronic items in my home several years ago. I walked into the insurance comapny and told them I have heard they do not pay claims very well and have only heard horror stories about such, which was true. The agent smiled and asked me to give her an estimated cost to replace , which I did, and she wrote me a check minus my deductable. WOW THIS IS GREAT...I HAVE A GREAT COMPANY!!! Now my home owners bill is several hundred dollars more per year. In fact the house we currently live in is valued at about 50% of a house we own in Richmond and my insurance is twice as high as the insurance on that home. If I live long enough I'm sure I will pay many times for that item. It has gotten so bd in the corporate world that we pay some potential claims out of pocket so as to keep our insurance affordable. Fortunantly and unfortunantly we live in a "for profit" world. Sorry, I know this does not help you except for you to know that your not alone.
  8. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think with the universal players you have to have analog cables to get DVD-A & SACD. On my player I am connected with Kimber Kable and for the DVD section I have fiber optic and component video connection. I used some cheaper cables for the component connection and I saw "shaking" in the screen. I upgraded to Monster video and have been pretty happy although I am waiting for the Kimber Kables.
  9. I am still undecided granted I have a very limited "collection". I really cannot tell the difference between the two at this time. I only have one SACD in multi channel format whith is Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon. I have several DVD-A titles which include Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and several sampler discs. I like being able to watch tid-bits on the TV about the band on DVD-A.
  10. Just my 2 cents....I very much dislike the RC-3II. Perhaps it's because I have the RC-7. To me the RC-3II is very thin sounding and "tinny".
  11. I now have a universal player. I cannot decide which format I like better. I think I may have a tendency to like DVD-A better. However the Dark Side of the Moon is excellent in SACD. What are your thoughts?
  12. I have not but would love to see what you think.
  13. I have.....I am considering the B & W line....heavily. I am looking for a more refined sound in my main system... God I feel guilty.

  15. I have the Denon 2900 and love it. I did not try the others but would have considered the Yamaha product. I got my Denon for $850 locally. I cannot think of anything I would want it to do more than it does already. I think in the $1,000 price range they are all pretty equal. I think it really depends on inventory and the deal you can get. I really wanted the Yamaha unit but got a better deal on the Denon as that is what they had the most of.
  16. I do not know how the Denon operates but on my Yamaha I also have to press the 6-channel input button to get sound. I always, always, always forget to do that and stare at the unit for at least a minute trying to figure out what the he** I'm doing wrong.
  17. What part of the country do you live? Perhaps a pickup.
  18. Thanks Skonopa. Yea, I believe I am doing as good as I can. I just wonder why the computer type connection wouldn't be better. Perhaps it's cheaper and neater to accomplish the same thing. Man when I posed this question yesterday I was having a brain f*rt!
  19. OK, perhaps I made a mistake....I have it connected with the three video cables, is that component? What I was asking about was the RGB single connection. Sorry, I always get confused on the com's.
  20. Thanks for the reply(s). WOW....now I'm really excited!!! I need to get the RGB!!! Will this help with regular video on other channels as well?
  21. This weekend I bit the bullet and bought a Sony HD200 HD reciever and ordered the programing from Direct TV. My question is...What is the best connection to the monitor? Currently I have a Composite video connection directly to my TV. I do not have a DVI connection on the TV but do have a RGB connection. Will RGB be a better quality connection than the Composit connection? Thanks for the help.
  22. Get a German Shepherd...no more katz
  23. Both are fine products. I think the HK states wattage as it really is and Onkyo tends to inflate thier numbers.
