  1. You should never try to teach a pig to sing. It'll waste your time and annoy the pig. Forrest
  2. Had to make a quick run to the hardware store so I didn't get to add that I was wondering if I had just gotten used to the sound. I hooked up the old power amp and it sounded really flat. The music just retreated back into the speaker boxes, and all was like stale bread and day old beer. I think with me liking music at lower to moderate levels, I'd probably like SET. However, for now I know that whatever the future holds, there'll be tubes involved. Forrest

I don't understand this notion of 'break in'. Electronics are electronics as far as I'm concerned, and it works or it doesn't. But with time the sound got cleaner and cleaner. The soundstage is well defined. PLENTY of power, almost too much to be honest. Most of my listening is at low volume levels. Last week I was playing Ahmad Jahmal's Crystal again, and the sweet sound pouring from the Corns just made me smile. I've yet to get a better CD player, the Sony CE 775 I had my eye on didn't pan out, the seller is non-responsive to my offers to PAY NOW. Oh well. I'm gonna put $50/mo away and by this time next year will buy a quality unit. At the moment the Tile Guys are cutting/pounding/stomping and making a racket. I asked if they liked rock and roll... they both like the DEAD, so the cat (freaked) and I are in another room, door closed, and the system is putting out some serious db's. It sounds perfect in here, painful in the other room. I have a feeling that any acoustic flaws I hear are the result of cheap sources. I was also able to pick up an extra quad of NOS 7591's from Ryan, THANKS! ($50.00 what a deal!!) happier by the day! Forrest

  5. Fini -- ***G*R*O*A*N*** Maxg, seek out some of his piano Sonatas. I've learned about 6 of them so far (and there are many), and they are light, whimsical, and delightful to listen to. Most are in 3 movements, classic sonata form, and also home to some of the most reflective 'slow' 2nd movements in the entire literature. Because the majority are not 'virtuostic' (thank the great whatsit) you don't see many of the heavyweight pianists playing them, but they are worth looking for. woo
  6. Is the CE 775 also a DVD player? I was thinking it was an SACD/CD player only. Thanks for all the replies so far. Forrest

  9. I'm wanting to buy a Sony CE 775 SACD player. Are there any reasons I should definitely stay away from this unit? The asking price is $150. I have a bathroom that has been neglected while I went after Cornwalls and Heresys and Tubes... I want to improve the audio from my BestBuy $89 Mitsubishi DVD/CD player, but I'm also going to be a responsible adult and do some home maintenance (before I fall through the floor). thoughts? thanks in advance for all replies, pro and con. I like shows of religion, moreso if they're easily handled by my remote control, i.e. the OFF button. I feel a quote coming on: "When I look at the federal investigation being launched into the Janet Jackson boob incident, I realize what I like about this administration: they believe in accountability." -- Joshua Micah Marshall I liked what Jon Stewart's Daily Show called it... The TEAT Offensive! As far as the public "taking back" art... the NFL (and CBS) has gotten a corporate execs wet dream of publicity. That 'incident' is the most talked about, replayed, etc. They have a better idea of what sells now. The way the media has been going on and on about this, you'd think Clinton's zipper was somehow involved. Personally, but this is just me, I found Chris Rock wearing my country's Flag as a poncho much more offensive. woo

Any comparisons between Heresy's & Forte's? ---------------- I was listening just to the Heresys in my church meeting room.. huge room, the speakers are 40' apart. They did quite a nice job, and assuming that you are not a heavy rocker, they would do a very decent job for you. they are wonderful speakers. I've heard it said about the Forte speaker that it is a Heresy on steroids. I think that the Heresys have midrange/upper treble that is soooooooooo wonderful. forrest

One can purchase "vintage" Heresy's and have speakers that will perform as new for many years to come. One other consideration about the suitability of Heresy's would have to do with your music preferences. They are very clean and clear. ---------------- I have a pair of Cornwalls (1976) and a pair of Heresys (1980) at my church, and the Heresys are nearly 40 feet apart. Ususally I run them with the Cornwalls, but today I listened to the Heresys by themselves, and they throw out an awesomely clean and transparent soundstage! The bass wasn't that shallow either. If you get them you'll certainly be happy. Forrest

Lexington is a really nice part of the world in which to live. My Klipsch Cornwalls are, without a doubt, the most satisfying audio purchase I've *ever* made, and I bought them ear unheard (as opposed to sight unseen) based upon what I had read in this forum. Sometimes when the music's on I find myself thinking, "Dahyum.. this sound GOOOOOOOOOOOOD" I hope I can make it to your gathering.. I've never heard LaScalas, or Khorns, or RF-(pick your number), or Fortes, or Chorus, or....well, you get the idea. later, forrest

I want to hear some martin logans, krell, etc. but it ain't gonna happen in this town. I'm going to be travelling to Nashville TN soon, and I might visit some of the hifi stores there. but hey, I paid $600 for the Corns (after repairing a blown tweeter) and to my ears, they were SOOOOO much better than speaks costing 2200 a pair. I rarely get out to listen to hifi systems, being something of a recluse, and this was one of those rare days when I set out to do just that. I still feel good about it! Nyah! forrest
