  1. JBSL, I remembered this topic in another forum. Here is the response from the famous mastering engineer Steve Hoffman regarding tube CD players. "When you put on a pair of "rose colored glasses" (think vacuum tube amp), everything looks great through them. Your first tendency is to add another pair of rose colored glasses on the top of the first and another, but you eventually can't see any more. In other words, too many tubes in your system will blind your ears to accurate sound. Leave the tubes for the preamp and amps." http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=19966 Hope this helps.

  9. Don't forget to throw the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb in the mix. It also has a tube output stage and is favored comparably to $3K CDP's. It also has an upsampling board available for it. Brings the sampling rate to 192K... Worth checking out. http://www.audioreview.com/CD,Players/AH!,Njoe,Tjoeb,4000/PRD_125042_1586crx.aspx http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0501/tjoeb4000.htm

(20kg) ENCLOSURE MATERIAL: Medium density fiberboard construction (MDF) FINISHES: Walnut Oil, Oak Oil, Oak Clear, Finished Black YEARS BUILT: 1992 - 1994 I am the original owner of these speakers. They are a medium dark Oak with beautiful grain. I would rate them a conservative 8.5/10 for condition. There is a tiny scratch on the top of one cabinet. There used to be a water stain on the top of the other cabinet, but it is hardly noticable now. They have not been driven hard and still sound wonderfull. I am selling them because I recently purchased a pair of '76 Cornwalls. You don't blame me do you? I am driving from Mpls, MN to Couer D Alene, ID on 8/12-13 to pick up the Cornwalls. I would be able to deliver the 4.2's if you were on my route of Hwy 94 & 90 from Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana & Idaho. Otherwise, buyer would have to pick up or find an alternate method for getting these. I am looking to get $300 for the pair. I do not currently have access to a digital camera. However, I will try to post some pics on Sat. For questions or other inquiries I can be reached by email - chunstiger@yahoo.com or by phone - 612-529-9034. Thanks for looking, Charlie

  14. For a tube output CD player. I just bought the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb CD player. It is a Marantz 4000 upgraded with a 24/192k upsampling board and output power tubes. The sound is wonderful. Full, rich soundstage especially with the Siemens 8223 gold pins. You can get all the specs here -> www.upscaleaudio.com. I also recently bought a Marantz DV8400 multi player. Plays all formats including SACD/DVD-A/DVD Video. Wonderfull sounding unit. If you search audiogon you can find them for 1139 brand new! Both of these units blow away my old Yamaha 5CD changer. You truly do get what you pay for... Charlie
  15. I would definitely be interested in seeing pics of these! I am in Mpls, MN. Only a hop and skip away. Charlie
  16. Leeroy, I would suggest sending the vault to Dave for the new bottom. Hopefully, it might be available when I need it. Thanks, Charlie
  17. Leeroy, I will know on 7/27 if I would be needing the vault. Would it be possible to hold onto it until then? If not, that is cool. I am in Minneapolis, MN Thanks, Charlie
  18. Hey, I am quite new to this forum... I am looking at purchasing a pair of cornwalls in the upcoming week. They will however need to be shipped across country.
