I knew prices were higher, overseas -wow! netherlands ---------------- yeah.. but brandnamez.com is not a authorized dealer. If he is dealing with a store, most likely he is dealing with authorized dealer. My point is when comparing prices.. compare "authorized" prices to "authorized" price and "non authorized" prices to "non authorized" prices.
  2. Hey Rob, If you want to know if I feel comfortable in paying a premium price for Pioneer Elite, look at my signature, I have both the VSX43TX and the VSX45TX. The VSX-45TX is about 45 pounds.. sometimes I think the model number reflects the weight of these things.. like the 43TX is 43lbs and the 45TX is 45lbs. The build is super on PE. Its a very heavy chassis, the front door is metal, not plastic, the knobs are metal, not plastic. Remember, this guy is $1400.00 MSRP and $1200.00 MSRP even though nobody pays that price. I think PE is on par with marantz, denon, H/K. Each company has their own chraracteristics, but each are very solid. I have not heard the ones you are looking at, but I have heard the Denon 3802 which is close to your 2803 and I have heard a couple of yamahas (RX-V1300, RX-V2300). ALL were good, all were slightly different. Its up to your ears to determine which one you like better, but in no way does PE sound.. for a lack of a better term... "Cheap". I have to admit however, I never auditioned the Pioneer AVR before I bought my first one. I went to one store, they had a older Pioneer Elite 2 channel system tied to Polk Audio LSi9 bookshelfs and it was very clean, very good which led me to buy Pioneer. Thats how I was introduced to the Elite lineup.
  3. I think they meant 800 Pairs for the corporation. Most of the time, their inventories are tied together and they can move speakers around if some store needs them. Also, like I mentioned, if that one store cannot get them in, offer to drive to a nearby one. If they are all out, its a good chance that GG is waiting for Klipsch to deliver a new batch to the entire corporation. I'd still say "complain in an orderly fashion". You never know, they might throw in some additional discounts on other gear if you are "politely" upset enough... No, I have never done this in my life....
  4. I guess since DTSentertainment is the one who mixed the product, its only logical they used DTS 5.1. Couple of other comments... Its not a bad alternative using DTS 5.1 music Mode and not DVD-A, because you can use Digital Medium like a TOSlink or Digital Coaxial instead of the analog cables. Alot of people are upset that DVD-A is not through the TOSlink or Digital Coaxial. With this method, DTS decoding will allow for music to pass through the the digital media. Also, it will work on any DVD player that supports DTS (which is like 100% of new DVD players now), so the everyday person does not have to have the DVD-A hardware. I guess the thinking is to get DVD-A quality without the need for DVD-A hardware and by keeping it Audio only, I am sure they can get more music Data on the DVD. I sure enjoyed it.
  5. I have to disaggree with your comment that all lower end recievers sound bad. personally, I would never spend money on a "high end" receiver, because it's still just that: a receiver. high end receivers suffer the same negatives as low ones, it's not like they have magical parts that allow all the components within the receiver to pick up zero interference between eachother, and have the equivilant of seperate power supplies. I would just get the cheaper receiver, especially at that price range.I have had to pioneer's and they work fine. ---------------- Just as someone else mentioned already, the improved DACs and the multiple Amps do make a huge difference. You just do not get continuous power with the lower end guys. The specs show Max Power, not constant power. The Functionality of the AVR is very important too. Can you set the crossover settings for the LFE? Does it have Digital Audio Support? Can you set speaker distances, speaker delays and amount of sound from each speaker to align them better? Can you run a Subwoofer with the speakers set to "Large" or do thay have to be "Small"? All these things contribute to finished sound output your ears hear. Other things to consider: How many Audio/Video/Digital inputs and outputs are available? My most important setting is: Can you listen to "Direct Source" or do you have to chose one of their "Colored" modes like Stereo, Jazz Club...etc. Listening to "Direct Source" on my mom's new kenwood ($299 HITB things) and my Elite are as far apart as night and day. Do a blind test one day. You will be impressed how much difference there really is.
  6. Well, This DVD didn't have Video and it wasn't DVD-A. It was DTS which I guess plays on all DVD players.. very cool indeed. We need to get SACD and DVDA into our cars....
  7. I'd raise hell too. Good Guys are usually good at getting stuff in, so talk to the manager. Even offer to go to a different GG if needed.
  8. Dude, You need to get a TV that is 16:9. Screw that 4:3 bullcrap. The movie was awesome at our home.
  9. I am not sure the room size is too small. It sounds like its okay for me. 20 ft by 12 ft approx... same size as my living room. I am not sure what the RB3 costs in your area.. but in the US... RF5s are usually 1500.00 for the pair from an authorized dealer in the US. RB-3s are 1300.00 from a authorized dealer for the Pair. Just checked goodguys.com. If you get 4 RB3s.. sounds like a steal even. However, it may not sound so good to your ears. I'd say if the guy is willing to bring them over and demo them for you, just trust your ears. One caveat, you will need to put out some money for the stands.
  10. Diss, If you are wondering if the RF-15s will do the job versus the Synergy... you are in for one big surprise. They rock. Of course, RF-35s are much better and RF7s are even better, but you are in a much higher price class. You can audition the Synergys at Best Buy. I see you are from Texas. There are a few dealers around I think you can listen to the RF-15s in the store. You are going to first have to distinguish what the Pioneer is. Are you looking at the Regular Pioneer series, which is built for the mass market crowd? Yes, some of the lower end models do sound bad. Lots of distortion at times. BUT... almost AVRs at the Mass Market crowd will sound bad. High Distortion, hiss noise, humming sounds.. lousy reproduction, sound always seemed colored..etc etc. This is not a shot at them, its just reality. They cost less. If you go Pioneer Elite, however, much like the Synergy versus Reference lines, you will be amazed at the regular line versus the elite line. I have a Kenwood 1080VR (the only affordable Dolby Digital AVR when I started HT) and hooked it up my little quintets and the results were decent but then I got my PE VSX43TX, I was truly amazed at the difference. I think if you step up to a PE, even your friend will be amazed. One thing, if you decide to go PE, do not get the VSX-41TX. It has higher distortion and the build quality is not up to par. You can get the VSX43TX for about 500.00 on Ebay and unitedonelineshopping.com or you can get the much better VSX-45TX for about 600.00. Search google.com if you need leads. The price has dropped as the newet 53tx and 55txi has arrived. I personally feel its better to get a used better product then a new lower quality product. Just be careful because sometimes on EBay, used product sells for as much as new product. Just listen alot. You will be amazed at what is possible.
  11. I bought my first music in DVD media today. I got the "Hell Freeze Over" DVD in DTS 5.1 format. Its just regular DVD, no need for DVD-Audio player. Wow is all I can say. Its much different from the CD. The highs are sharper, the stage presence is much more defined. All I can say is what the hell was I thinking waiting so long. I get my first universal player next week. I am pretty excited. I have Norah Jones on SACD already in anticipation. This is taking me back when DVD movies just started, everyone was trying to figure out DIVX or DVD and every week you scoured the stores hoping for something that was any good was released.
  12. ---------------- It still blows me away that the H/K weighs in at 44lbs.!!! Most of the decent AVRs are at least this heavy. The heavier it is, the more components inside, which usually is a good thing when it comes to AVR. Both of my AVRs are over 40lbs too.
  13. The Synergy is a good line. Its not the same as reference line, but not bad. You can find Synergy 6 for under 900.00. That will leave you with about $600.00 for a good AVR. Synergy 6 is sb1, sc1, ss1, ksw10. If you go the route of SF-2, ss1, sc1, ksw12, some place on the web have them as the following: 289 for the KSW-12, 468 for the SF-2, 250 for the SC1, $299 for the SS1 Which equals 1306 Or go with Reference 15s for the same price. http://www.sounddistributors.com/buynow.asp?action=detail&prid=976&crid=63&cat_name=Home+Theater+Systems Choose the RW-12 instead of the JBL and you are in Reference line instead of synergy for $50.00 more. 15. Its not the wiring of your house, but the amount of electricity coming from the street. Especially here in Northern California, PG&E runs its power lowered all the time(Brown-outs). This is to still provide for everyone even though demand is at its peak. Running it direct from the fuse box won't help you. The only thing I can think of is UPS. Thats the equipment that guarantees the power to your system. I don't have one for my HT yet, but I have used them for a computer. James
  16. You should be fine. Have fun with the speaker.
  17. ---------------- chinoloco, Play nice now- you hear? ---------------- I guess if the advice given was already: Yamaha's to harsh! Denon is blah! NAD is unreliable! Pioneer is overpriced! and on and on!!! I don't know what else is out there and what else we can add.
  18. Get the sub if you want to really feel the rumble of a jet engine in the war movies. If nothing else, thats why I have a sub.
  19. Yes. You are probably right. You can get the Acoustic Research S112PS for about $115.00 plus S/H. Its a 12 inch sub with 120 watts. The Pioneer VSX-D411 is available on the 'Net for $135.00 or 169.00 at Best Buy. James
  20. I think you need to get a BOSE Lifestyle system.
  21. No.. you are right. The surrounds have 3 channels.. LS, RS and BS. However, there is this excerpt from Dolby's website: If you use a single rear surround speaker, center it behind the listening area at the same height as the side surround speakers, preferably above ear level. If you use two back surround speakers, which give a more diffuse and natural surround effect, they should be at least four feet apart (creating an included angle of about 90 degrees to the listener), also centered behind the listening area and at the same height as the side surround speakers. You might get more effects from surround by using 7 speakers instead of 6. I will be trying this setup probably in a week or so after I get my new fronts and move the current fronts to the back surrounds.

The real issue with using in walls as fronts is that I have a 6 month old who I am afraid will knock them over. ---------------- If you have carpet and you use Carpet spikes, I doubt the Floor fronts will be knocked over. Most are over 40 pounds in weight. A baby would have to push over its own weight with out any support from its feet to do that. Personally, I would be more worried about a bookshelf on a stand since its 2 pieces. the stand might be heavy, but the speaker may not be firmly on the stand. We have a active 20 month old and we trained her to stay away from the speakers so she does.
  23. Audioreview.com has pretty great reviews on this company. The biggest plus? Sound Quality is good. The Biggest Minus? Cosmetic Appeal. (looks cheap). I know audioreview.com has been giving alot of crap reviews lately, but I was considering these guys for a small room setup. Make sure you get their bananna plugs with the speakers. From what everyone says.. it works better with the bananna plugs and they are cheap if you order them with the speakers. I personally would get the HTB-SX line, I like the birch wood look better then the black myself. I wouldn't laugh at the price. They really are not cheap. When you cut out the middleman, you are saving lots of money. There are a lot of costs associated with "middlemen"... profits, shipping costs, storage costs.. advertising... support costs..blah blah blah. But again you cannot return them so that is the reason for the lower price. Oh, one other thing.. you need to get a sub. So adding 300-400 bucks.. you are up to 500 to 600 so pretty much in the same price as the quintets with KSW10. I am interested if you get a set. I have been debating them for quite some time now for my daughter's playroom.
  24. As many of you know, I have been using the quintets for my bedroom set. Since I like to go and get 7 speakers for this as some movies are trying to support 7.1 and 6.1 formats, I have some options to what to do. Any ideas or thoughts would be nice... Here are some of my thoughts. 1. Get an additional 2 Quintet speakers. Everything will match and you have 7 little speakers around the room. 2. Get a pair of SB1 and try to hang them on the wall where the Quintets are right now. Move the quintets to the back of the room as additional surrounds. I really would hate to try to get stands. I want them out of the way. One difficulty is not be able to toe/angle them in. 3. Get a pair of SF-1 speakers... its a little in the way, but I don't have to worry about my 2 year old daughter knocking them off the stands. Any comments? I know the sound quality will be much better with the SF/SB and if I do this, will I need to update my center as well? The reason to go with SF/SB is better 2 channel sound.
