  1. Two subs in the same corner? How fun was that to phase? I'm assuming you tunned them way low which is why you needed two in order to make up for lost power? Just thinking about the balancing act three SVS subs would be is giving me a headache. OOC, did you try some manual x-over options for fun? Like setting the three fronts to large and manually crossing each speaker over to it's own SVS? Now THAT would be some full range fronts
  2. While I don't ever see a rainbow effect, I don't like the lack of brightness DLP sets have. It's just the nature of the design. Because it's throwing 3 images 1-2-3 in succession, the final image is always duller and less crisp than on a good old fashioned CRT. I'll personally wait until three chip DLP sets get cheep enough to be a realistic option. Of course, by then LCoS will probably be down as well, and it's hard to beat the sexiness of 1080p ...
  3. Have to go home to be 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure there's only four. I say this because I remembered saying the same thing to myself when I saw the design. But when I thought about it, it would have ment the RC-35 would have as many magnets on the grill as the RF-35 ... something just didn't seem right with that
  4. Yeah, display models arethe way to go, but a real hit or miss. I've seen a Denon 5900 DVD player going for under $1000 as a display model. I think it was like $800. That's over half off, so I'd think if you were lucky you could find a similar deal on a comparable reciever (beggers can't be choosers, it'll depend on what you can find).

To give us an idea on where to expect some reviews?
  6. When it's a question of hobbiest vs. his wife there are two absolutes to consider: 1. The hobbiest is bassing his placement on sound, wife bassing placement on visual appeal (translation: hiding the things). 2. The wife's "recomendation" is always accompanied by consequences if ignored, wether stated or not. So with that in mind what's really important is the make and comfort level of your couch. Then compare the sound quality gained against the amount of sleep lost.
  7. Hmmm ... to be honest, I keep wating for them to review the whole 35 line, as that's the one thats new this year, not the 7 line. But I guess it makes sense to review the flagship.
  8. See alot of these threads popping up. You watching KLipsch?? When are we going to be able to buy direct like SVS??
  9. It's interesting to see the debate. To my ears it was no contest: setting all speakers to small gave me by far the best response and sound. The reason to me was simple: Because my config hace a couple of RS-35s and and RC-35 in the mix, large created a problem: The quality of the bass would change depending on if the "large" speakers handled the bass or if my SVS did. Turning on "LFE+Main" just meant the db level would change randomly. It might be different for me if I had towers all the way around, but even then I thought I measured roll off happening as high as 50hz ... I'd probably leave them set to small just so my flat repsonse would extend alot lower.
  10. The best article I read on the subject I acutally got from here. It actually explains why even full range speakers should be set to small (allows flat exention until the subwoofer takes over and removes any audiable roll off when compared to "large settings") So here it is again, just download the attachment. 11. http://www.tone.co.nz/pdfs/klipsch.pdf>Tone Magazine has a Klipsch RF-35 review ... but they're Newzealand based I think? It's litterally the only review I can find on these new speakers. Klipsch even quotes the article on thier webpage. I would really like to see a Home and THeater mag review of the new 35 series. I actually do like thier reviews. Only time I hear any mention of Klipsch in that magazine, however, are during competitions like "see who can buy the best system for $3000". Klipsch always seems to come up in those articles. Never reviewed directly however. Oh, heres a Sample http://www.hometheatermag.com/directviewandplasmatvs/93/index5.html>Home Theater Mag article containing Klipsch speakers. Another can be found http://www.hometheatermag.com/loudspeakers/41/index.html>here, but the reviews arn't all that good. Seems Klipsch just isn't as popular as some other brands (while I can understand the comparisons to more expensive brands I really don't understand how they lost out to Polk). EDIT: I can't get the darn links to show up. Odd. OK I'll just list them below: Tone Magazine RF-35 review: http://www.tone.co.nz/pdfs/klipsch.pdf Home and Theater Magazine and two "contests" which have Klipsch present: http://www.hometheatermag.com/directviewandplasmatvs/93/index5.html http://www.hometheatermag.com/loudspeakers/41/index.html
  12. A while ago I started the "is no sub a sin" thread and was almost overwhelmingly told that I should correct my ways. Well my SVS 20-39PCi came in the other day. After hooking it up and whipping out the old SPL meter I decided to replay some of my favorite movies just to see how much of a difference it made. For give me. Had I any idea I would have never abused my Klipsch by running without a capable sub. I've already started to correct wrongs by watching the Iron Giant and key scenes from Lord of the Rings so that it's pounded into my skull that I should never make this mistake again. Anyway, thanks for everyone's help here on the board. Your guidance was wonderful.
  13. Both the RC-3 II and the RC-35 use the same size drivers, which mean neither of them match the 8" woffer in your floorstanders (they use 6.5" woofers). The RC-3 II however, has the exact same driver in it's tweeter, so it's likely going to be a better match.
  14. $10,000 ... hmmm ... What are the chances I could sell my car, take these home, set them up, and watch a movie before my Wife gets home and kills me?
  15. Be careful with LCD, LCoS, or DLP fixed-pixel digital televisions. The internal scalers arn't nessisarily that good so it's absolutely critical that you see them displaying a standard 480i signal if you plan on doing any regular TV watching. Most stores will be showing off the HD signal. I've heard many testimonials from people that bought a new DLP set only to find out that regular TV viewing was a huge drop in quality from thier old CRT TV.
  16. Ah theEar, now we're getting into the great debates of globalization! Not sure if this is the right place for it or not ... Normally I would actually say: "so what". If the people are going to ask for more than the rest of the world they better be able to supply more than the rest of the world. But no, I'm not THAT libertarian . Politics unforunately make the debate of a global economy infintely more complicated than that. But if we simplify it a bit, and simply look at the US traditional distro model vs. what is emerging, I'm sorry, but I feel no sympathy for resellers who try to act as sole distributors for a product when there's no reason we can't buy direct. Companies used to pay people like IngramMicro to distribute because originally it was infintitely cheeper to pay to use someone elses supply chain then set on up thier own. Between the Internet and these new nation-wide shipping companies, however, they simply arn't needed. But a few exlusive contracts here, a few more there, and both manuf. and the B&M can get themselves in a bind really quickly. Many times the "price lock" comes from the middle man. If Klipsch partnered with IngramMicro exclusively (I don't know the company, I'm speculating) for product distro, then guess who sets the initial markup no B&M will go under? If Klipsch decides to sell direct, guess what distribution contract they risk loosing and how many end B&M the could loose contact with? Yup, traditional resellers risk loosing alot. But for every step they loose, FedEX and UPS need to step thier employees up to meet new demands. If Companies would "take the plunge" the market would still need people. We'd just be shattering contracts that needlessly increase cost. OK, that went on for way too long.
  17. I'd also like to point out that many online companies are honoring speaker warranties in-house in order to help get the sale. I know the company I bought from mail me in writing, along with the product, thier personal guarantee to deal with manufacturer defects. Did I listen to some setups in a B&M store? Sure did. Guilty as charged. When I told the sales rep that I was probably going to buy online but wanted to hear them first, He warned me about the warranty. I stated there's no way warranty justifies a 33% price difference, esp. when the online store would honor it. I then turned around and said that if he could come close I'd consider paying just to have a local dealer I could turn to. He just blanky looked at me and said "I can't do that, but if you change your mind here's my card". The inevtiable, IMHO, is what companies like SVS are doing. Eventually the entire distribution model is going to change, and it's already started. THe problem is, older companies like the old method because it still makes money so they're fighting tooth and nail to keep it. But it's adapt or die, no matter how much they fight it through distribution channels or legal legislation.
  18. Klipsch will only authorize brick-and-mortar stores. Any online-only store will not be authorized. I'm fighting the urge to rant on why so many industries try to stiffle internet sales ...
  19. You have almost 5 grand in speakers and your DVD player is a PS2? Nah, keep obesessing
  20. "Our standard all-channels-driven power measurement could not be taken because, Sony tells us, the receiver was not designed to deliver full power to all channels simultaneously." ^ Wow. That's just not right.
  21. The only problem with audioreview is that it's all peer reviews so you tend to get either raves or outright bashes with few objective reviews. They don't feel very objective. I'm hoping for something from a magazine that might hold more wieght than "Joe Anonymous". Don't misunderstand: I already own the RF35s. It just seems that everytime a "post your setup" thread hits there's a Klipsch basher who spits out the same rhetoric every time. The complaints are so similar, and the RF35's so new, that I wonder if this is just an assumption being made by people who wrote off Klipsch years ago or even have never heard them and are just regurgitating hear-say. As I'm a Klipsch newbie (these are my first Klipsch speakers), most of the complaints seem very foreign to me and I can' understand where the arguments are coming from. So this is more of an excersize in education. I have this feeling that people are writing them off before even giving them a listen, and instead mindlessly buying whatever the forum buzz-word of the day is. (right now it seems to be the "you should have bought Paradigm" comment. I really don't get that one). Thanks for any help.
  22. Serial numbers were left on mine as well. Simply removed from the Box, but still on the units. The person I delt with at www.acousticsounddesign.com was very nice and profesional, when all was said and done. As for authorized dealer. The best I could get out of them was $1800. Online I got it all for $1400. Personally I value $400 as more than "just a few bucks". Yeah there was shipping, but if I bought at a store there would have been tax, so the amount washes (at least here in California where it's over 7.75). Heck if Cruz Bustamonte (sp?) wins the recall election here I'll be seeing a state tax hike as well as the addition of a County tax. Online could litterally be my sole source of eq. purchases in the future.
  23. I've been looking for some RF35 reviews and having trouble. The only review I can find is from "Tone" (the one Klipsch posts on thier website) and unfortunately it doesn't go into the details I'd like. But then, that's literally the ONLY review I can find, positive or otherwise. I'm trying to find a review that includes some speaker measurements if possible. Does anyone know of one?
  24. Personally, I only consider the 15, 35, and 7 as choices. The 25 and 5 seemed too much like "half steps" to me. For example, the RF-5 uses the exact same sized drivers as the RF-35, the only difference being the 1" tweeter gets pushed through a larger horn (8" instead of 6") and the sub has a 3hz lower reach (all in a larger case, of course). I just didn't feel like stepping up from a 35 to a 5 was going to give me anything more than 25watts more power handling, especially if a sub was going to handle the low end anyway. Compare that to the RF-7, which increases the size of all of my drivers, and gives me 125watts more powerhandling to boot. That's a REAL step in my book. Mind you, it IS twice as much, but then we can already see the pattern forming that the 55 and 75 will be on thier way soon, and those prices will likely drop like the 35 did from the 3. But then, I havn't owned nearly as many speakers as others on this board have, so take it all with a grain of salt
  25. ---------------- On 9/3/2003 2:35:02 PM garymd wrote: I've never heard an SVS but from what everyone says, it's the best bang for the buck. I can tell you that my RSW-12 is awesome. They can be had for under $1k now. I don't know how it compares to the $1100 SVS but it's plenty for my 13x24 room for movies and adds a nice flavor to my 2-channel tube set-up. It also doesn't take up the room the SVS does. Actually it's behind a chair and you wouldn't know it was there unless I pointed it out. Go listen to one. ---------------- That's odd. For me I settled on an SVS because it took less room as far as floorspace (16" diameter). Goes to show one size doesn't fit all
