  1. I would go with the 12 guage also, that's a prtty long run and to avoid loss, bigger is better.
  2. While the rb5 is rated that low it drops off noticably well before then. Setting the sub a bit higher will pick up before the rb5's run out of steam. Not knocking them understand, but many speakers are rated to go so low, and they can, but not at the same volume level as lets say at 100 hz. It a setting you have to play with since how high they are off the floor, how far from the wall, what kind of room acoustics etc, all affect the sound of them.
  3. Have you given any thought about to playing with the reference line, specificaly the rf-3. With all the good comments I'm hearing about your work on the K horns and cornwalls it makes me wonder, can he spin this magic on the new lines?
  4. I had the same issue and found it's due to the height above the listening area. Mine are mounted to a stud using the factory mounts. I had the ss1's at first and switched to the rf3's since my mains are rf3's, it still did it, but not as pronounced. I ended up using a 5 inch screw for the top mount but left the top screw out further to angle the speaker down into the listening area. The bottom of my speaker is flush with the wall(resting on the little "bumper" provided in the box) and the top of the speakers are about 1 1/2 inches out from the wall. Made a huge difference in sound! By using the real long screw I can adjust the angle and still have enough threads in the stud to securely hold the seakers up there....
  5. Either way should be fine actually. As long as it's good and snug you dont have to crush a spade connector to make it work correctly. That would be the same as saying a banana plug should be tight enough to almost split it's housing! In reality, a spade connector will give you twice the surface area of MOST banana plugs anyway, not all but most. Myself, I use bare wire, being one that feels the less differnt kinds of metal the better and the less connections the better too. Of course some will say but what about oxidation!? It's a head game..... whatever you like the best, is the best....for you.
  6. They are for effect only and dont add to the sound at all. They are a device that is mounted to the frame of your couch or to the beams under the room, and get a signal from your stereo for the bass. Ya know how a deep bass passage can be felt....well try a device that is designed to "shake the rafters". Thats what they do, so you can feel effects more. I experienced them at a home theater trade show a year or so ago, and it was kinda fun. To me , not worth the money to buy or hassle of mounting, but fun...
  7. Dr. Dave, Kief's is in Lawrence ,Ks and are pretty good people to deal with. At least in person they are...They ARE a authorized dealer and carry Klipsch and others, they also carry a good line of solid state and tube hardware. Saw some Bryston equipment I'd like to have.....
  8. I've heard that ya can get good quality 12 guage at many major hardware stores Like Home Depot or Lowe's etc. Many people have recommended Carol wire. I personnally went with biwired AudioQuest CV 4, but that's just me...talk about cringing. But that's OK, Audio is about my only real passion besides the family so I get to spluge once in a blue moon... So yes, go for the 12 guage, its a better diet for your tunes.
  9. If I'm not mistaken, It all started with some local dealers that dont sell over the internet. Seems they were losing alot of there business due to the large volumes or volume discounts from uncles and many others. They couldn't' compete with the prices so even local people were buying from an internet dealer because of price. So after enough complaining the verdict came down that if you want to retain your "factory authorized" rating you are only allowed to sell in your storefront regional area, not all over the country! This is what I read elsewhere on this BB. I'm sure there is a way around it, but the whiners won this one.
  10. Between the Celeron and the P2, there is no comparison-----go Celeron, even in the 66 mhz form it will do better than P2. As far as overclocking them, it's not uncommon to go 50% over with no adverse affects. Of course I assume you'll be use a Processor fan. This CPU is a gluton for punishment and comes back lookin for more. But I gotta admit I am a AMD fan. The new duron will blow both of these away. I've actually seen reports of the 600 Duron doing as well as a 700 P3! And the Duron is getting VERY favorable reports of overclocking too!(IF that's your bag). I have a bud in ST. LOUIS that has one (500) set up to a 800, and the company that did it for him will still give full year warranty on it! He's been using it for about a month and ahalf and no glitches so far.
