  1. Well, technically, it does have stabilization built in, in fact, most reviews have found that aspect very good. I can only attribute my lack of familiarity with the unit, which I am working on every day.
  2. O.K., so maybe not more than one in a post yet. That was our daughter, proud as could be that she'd caught the first bass of the year off the dock. Trying the bug photo again?
  3. We'll see what happens when I try to upload more than one image into one post. I see it can be done, just don't know that I have that technology. It let me load a pic of bugs in Macro, didn't let me load another in normal. (?)
  4. If I may be so brazen as to sidetrack this thread a smidgeon... Mr Mas, I am somehow oddly offended by this line in your signature: DaretoSlack : When birds fly in the right formation, they need only exert half the effort. Even in nature, teamwork results in collective laziness I daresay that is not laziness, but efficiency. I don't know that laziness is a trait that can be attrributed to any animal other than man, and only because we have developed enough to know what is required to do to survive. Some will simply choose to do just the minimum. I believe the correct line should be: In all of nature, teamwork results in increased efficiency. Of course, your line may be in jest, in which case you may disregard this post completly. []
  5. PLEASE do not close this thread. It has remained pretty much civil, very informative, and extremely entertaining! Maxs dream had me busting a gut!
  6. Not sure yet if I'll be able to attend, a customer of mine brought in the brochure for me knowing I was interested in tube stuff. It's main focus is on radios, but there is a swap meet that should have all sort of vintage goodies available. The pics from the last couple years look interesting. Just passing it on to anyone in the area that may want to attend. Date is May 18 &19, pre-registration is $16 and covers the family. http://www.geocities.com/northland.geo/
  7. I did a quick search for "trends ta-10 amp" and got a bunch of hits, here's the first: http://www.musical.ca/catalog/item/4377302/4344389.htm?gclid=CIaLs6G6oosCFQMgUAodemczmA Yes, 130 apiece.
  8. With that recommendation, we'll go. Should be a nice evening and expose the daughter to some live music. Thank you. I did get your email, it's at work, I'm at home, I might get time to connect the two tomorrow, but suffice to say we'll wait a few weeks before we try to do a get-together. We are looking forward to it though.
  9. I've had a couple paintings get kitty-whompas after a good session, but not fall off the wall yet. Another vote for being careful with the volume. I just turned 46, and noticed recently that when I'm in the bathroom at work, doing whatever takes more than 15 seconds to do, I'll hear the sound of the phone cord being pulled along the door jamb on the opposing door to the bathrooms as someone goes to get the schedule pad, but I never heard the phone ring in the first place. 90-95 dB is about as high as I go when the house is empty, though if it's a particularly good selection I might bump it a bit. I believe my high end loss is due to 25+ years of the automotive repair business, especially air hammers. Ear protection is a must if you want to hear all the good sounds once you get older. I've told myself I need to get my ears cleaned and tested for a year or so, but seems I chose to watch the paint dry instead. Hopefully a good cleaning will bring back some of the higher registers. [:'(]
  10. Does anyone know of this trio? I've never heard of them, but they're coming in to a concert near me next week and it would be a good night out with the Mrs. If anyone has an opinion of them I'd like to hear it, good or bad. Thanks.
  11. LOL... For all intents and purposes, that's exactly what I needed to know. Thanks.
  12. What's the deal with some new thing/standard/law coming up in a year or so that will require an adapter for older televisions to process signals? I know the answer's on here somewhere and I should know what it is, but I have a customer dropping off a car on his way to buy a new TV and asked me about it, he know's I have an interest in these things, but I couldn't remember the details off the top of my head. He'll be here in probably 15 minutes, any help is appreciated.
  13. Be careful though, you might end of with a Pair of SET amps and a Pair of Khorns! That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing! The CD player would not even have to have a variable output as the Amp has one built in. I noticed that when I reread this thread this morning. I think the Makers Mark was catching up with me last night. [:^)] I asked my wife about next weekend, she's thinking we'll be "wanting" to be out working then but that we'd discuss it tonight. I'll know more tomorrow.
  14. I and/or we (The Misses and I) need to get down to your place for an evening. Yesterday she asked about what could be done if we get our new entertainment center in the living room for something simple and unobtrusive. I believe her words were "A boombox you can't see that has a remote." This Digital amp, with a cd player, with some of the Bobinga Fostex speakers, could be the ideal answer, assuming the cd player has variable output. Hmmmmm....... Is there a time soon upcoming that I could invite ourselves to your place for an audition? Keep in mind, there is a 7 yr old daughter that would likely tag along.
  15. Hey Guys, I've got a great Camaro, but I can get a great deal on a Mustang. What would you do? It's not the name on the faceplate, or the numbers on the spec sheet. It's what's between your ears when you listen to it, and only you can decide that. That said, I wish you the best on whatever avenue you persue. (There is some weight to side with known manufactures, but I don't know enough of those you ask about to comment.)
  16. I know what I'm ultimatly going to end up doing, but it's nice to wish in one hand.... A week ago I ordered a 500 Gig external hard drive for one of the computers here at work. Good deal from BUY.COM, $120 after rebate. Needed it to load 13 DVD's onto for one of our repair programs, nice to not have to switch discs when you go from Chevy to Lexus or whatever. It also means I can access any of that date from home through Remote Desktop and not need to worry which disc is in the drive. Anyway... Today my drive showed up, though I was confused why it came in two identical boxes. Both with shipping labels to me. Signed for em and checked the packing lists. Ah Ha. A Mr. Boeleo in New York is probably not getting his drive as soon as he expected!! Two different order numbers, same item, same shipping labels, different tracking numbers and different "ship to" listings on the packing lists. So I call up the only number on Buy.coms' web site I could find, which is the ordering number. Finally got ahold of a person after a few seconds shy of 5 minutes. (Length of call timer on phone display.) Talked to Jose in TX, he sounded pleased that I'd called and would need to get me hooked up to a service rep to get me off a Call Tag so they could pick it up. All well and good. I probably didn't talk to him for more than 60 seconds. When the call timer rolled over to TWENTY minutes, I hung up. I have a business to run, customers to please and things to do. I'm sure with tracking numbers and what have you I will get a call in a few days after Mr. Boeleo calls in b1tching that his drive hasn't shown up and they check to see where it's gone to. At that time they'll send me a call tag and come pick it up, though it would be sweet if they just said skip it and sent him one and forgot about my free one. Am I obligated to keep calling them to try and send back something that was incorrectly shipped by them once I've made the first attempt? Oh Yeah.. got the drive hooked up, transfered 130gb of data to it, and no more disc swapping!! After I retrained myself on how to remap network drives, enable sharing and all that fun stuff that I only do once every three years or so.
  17. On Monday, August 8th, 2005, the State of Minnesota inacted a "user fee" on cigarettes of something like 60 cents a pack. (The governor had promised no new taxes to get elected, so instead of a cigarette tax, it was a user fee.) I'd just bought a carton on Sunday and usually smoked 2 packs of Camel Light Wides a day or more. I'd been smoking since 1976. My daughter had been getting older, (7 now) and commented on occasion that she didn't want me to get "smoke sick". My wife had quit when she got pregnant, though she only smoked a pack every two weeks when she did smoke. On Thursday morning, driving to work, at 7:40 AM, while driving over the bridge of the Pine River, I took my last puff of my last smoke and threw the butt out the window into the river, hoping to send my addiction with it on into the Mississippi and down to the Gulf Of Mexico, never to be seen again. I was damned if I was going to pay the extra 60 cents per pack, besides, my wife said if I quit I could buy a new boat with the savings. Today, I haven't had a smoke since, have no cravings for one, don't see how people could go back to it after quitting, and still don't have a new boat. She neglected to tell me that the money I wasn't spending on smokes I was supposed to be putting into a savings account till I had a decent down payment for a new boat. I did handle cigs now and then if I were out having a beer with the boys or something, but never lit one. That's passed too now. I wish all of you the best in whatever means you use to quit. Cold Turkey was best for me. I think what made mine easier was that I took the mindset that I wasn't going to buy cigarettes. Once you buy em, you'll smoke em. If you can get past the habit of buying em whenever you're getting gas, if you don't have em, it's a lot easier to not smoke em. Good Luck.
  18. Cwwrig, would you be so kind as to resize your images before posting them. Page 81 takes forever to load all the images even with my DSL, I'm sure dialup folks can't even get it done without going to eat lunch as they wait.
  19. Took this today when we were coloring Easter Eggs. (Hopefully it shows, haven't needed to take the "Insert Image" class yet due to no camera.) So far I like tha Canon, taking a bit to get used to the smaller than SLR body size with my big mitts, but finding a place for the fingers to fall. Good pics outside and in, movies are easy, been reading the two manuals and trying to get the 20 or so buttons figured out. It offers 5 image capture sizes, I've been using the largest, but not sure if I should be. They are: L (2816x2112) M1 (2272x1704) M2 (1600x1200) and S (640x480), with a W mode (2816x1584).Also Superfine, Fine and Normal quality settings. So far everything has been L/Super. What size/quality shuold I be using for general shots that'll get emailed or posted on here? The one's I've taken so far blow up real nice without noise, but probably also take dial up guys 20 minutes to load, which I want to avoid.
  20. Thanks to everyone for the advice. After reading a lot of reviews, both professional and consumer written, I think I'm going to go with the Canon S3-IS. I can get it for $308 at Best Buy, which is farily local, get a 1Gb card and still be around $350. Should be a fun weekend getting to play with a new toy. I'll post a pic or two if anything comes out worth while.
  21. Just for grins and giggles I grabbed a mic. My normal coat hanger in the office closet is .090" diameter. I checked some 10 gage electrical wire, .104". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wire_gauge That site has a nice chart wire AWG and diameters, 2 gage is right at .25, or 1/4" Pretty dang fat.
  22. Jay, thanks for the thoughts. The battery issue is a sticky wicket for me, on one hand I don't want to be buying batteries forever, but on the other hand, I don't want to be stuck if I go into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for a week, can't very well plug a charger into a Birch tree. I'm thinking if I got one that uses batteries I could use the AA's from my R/C boat that are rechargable, then carry along extra disposables on trips for backup. One thing I don't like about the Panasonic is no viewfinder. I know it has image stabilization, but I just prefer to compose through that silly little hole. Though I do like the 10x optical zoom. It would be so much easier if there were just three cameras; cheap, good and really expensive. []
  23. Does anyone have experience with the Powershot line? (I know some of you do) I'm looking at this as one option: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/a550.html Seems to be highly rated, does video, (not sure I'd use that) has White Balance for Colter. Is goodorbad?
  24. If Seadog doesn't take these, I'll be happy to take them off your hands. My sister lives inside the Dallas loop and should/could/might owe me a favor. If I win the freebie auction I'll get your address and your and her work schedule ASAP to get a pick up time confirmed. Thanks for offering these up to the forum, I promise to pass it forward if I get them.
  25. Micheal, why is it that as I originally wrote my post I expected you to be the first to reply? [H]
