  1. Same pair and seller now at $1400 on Hudson Valley Craigslist (New York).
  2. Hi---are these still available or did sale go through? Thanks!
  3. there are a pair of walnut k-horns listed for the second time on ebay---the seller has a (-1) feedback rating due to the disgruntled buyer the first time around. i was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge of these either this time around or from the first auction? i am in the market for a pair and am not too far away (western mass.), but i am a bit worried about the negative feedback. if anyone has any info or thoughts---it's much appreciated.
  4. sorry guys---point well taken---i am a relatively new member as well---i just have spent my whole life fighting this volume and "kick" and bashing and thrashing mentality with other musicians, sound engineers, and innocent listeners(!) and i was pouring it on too heavy---i guess i was directing my anger more at the salesperson, as i think about it. anyway, to quote another piano-player, "if it sounds good, then it is good". don't let my grumpiness deter you, but make sure they sound good at low volumes as well, which i'm sure you will! cheers
  5. boy, as a music lover (all kinds) and professional musician, i almost have to wince at the thought of someone auditioning speakers based primarily on volume level, and laughing at the notion of seeing whether one can "blow them up". it seems almost juvenile, and at the risk of offending someone with my remarks, may i suggest that music should be about more than seeing if we can blow up our toys in the sandbox. it reminds me of a concert i did recently with a rather well-known jazz drummer. during the sound check, he hit his bass drum, this was in a university concert hall, and it sounded HUGE!! this drummer argued a bit with the young sound engineer, who was only accustomed to loud thumping kick-drums, until he got fed up and told the kid to turn off all the mikes on the drums. he then played a little around his kit, smiled, and said, "that's the way it's supposed to sound". there is a great deal to be said for subtlety---in ALL music. to judge a music transducer based solely on whether it can break glass, eardrums, or burn rubber, "cleanly" or uncleanly, is really missing the point of it all. IMHO!
  6. ---------------- On 1/17/2004 1:58:17 AM maxg wrote: You know the thing I am talking about. An album that you play once a month/quarter or less, that each time you play it you think - my god - why dont I listen to this more often? Only to promptly forget and let another month/quarter pass til you listen to it again. For me (boring predictable git that I am) it is DSOTM. I may go on and on about other Roger Water's recordings but my god this one is something. Last night the baby was at grannies and the wife out for diner. Volume up (there's a change). And DSOTM on - it was absolutely fan-bloody-tastic!! So what does it for you? ---------------- the first album in the early 70s from THE ROGER KELLAWAY CELLO QUARTET. the album is named the same. it is as fresh as the day i heard it---most people have never heard it, though some jazz musicians know it well. it is on A&M Records and was mentioned a couple years ago in the N.Y. Times as one of the vinyl albums most deserving of being transferred to c.d.---funny thing is i have it on c.d., though i have never seen the c.d. again in all my travels on the road visiting music stores. i also have about 6 or 7 copies of the vinyl, just in case!! the 2nd CELLO QUARTET album from Roger and associates is just as good.
  7. hi all---i need your help---i am looking at some pristine one-owner k-horns with the following i.d.: KCFR, serial #2D249 & 2D250---seller wants $1700. does anyone know the year these were made, and would this be a good "vintage"? thanks in advance---jeff
  8. i did marry my high school sweetheart (26 years now!), but your point is very well taken. thanks
  9. hey guys---thanks for your good advice---if i get them i will keep the formica on---i wanna pay $1500 but the seller is holding out for $2000. they are quite mint, but still---that formica...!! thanks again---i look forward to joining the klipsch "lifestyle" ! so far, i've been seen only wearing QUAD clothing ! best, j.h.
  10. i have an opportunity to buy a mint pair of K-Horns from the early to mid 60s for $1500, but the cabinets are finished in a mahogany color FORMICA. have you heard of formica being used as the veneer, and do you think this will result in any sound degradation compared to a real wood veneer? many thanks in advance!
