  1. Spanky, If you liked the RBs, I would definitely suggest that route. Worst case scenario may involve keeping one pair for the rears, and making another trek back for the floorstanders, but I seriously doubt that will happen. John
  2. I have listened to both the RF-15s and the RB-25s and prefer the RB-25s. I don't like giving details to someone before they listen, because psycho-acoustics can dictate what you hear at the dealer. Why not audition them when you make the purchase? (I'm assuming you're going to the dealer, not mail ordering them.) Contact the dealer and tell him that you're going to buy one or the other and ask him to have both available for audition. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. John
  3. Thanks!! I sent you an email. John
  4. I think speakers look pretty good w/o grills, but most women don't. Since my brother's new to this game, and his wife is REALLY new to all this, I think it's safe to assume the grills must stay on. John

If you're using an LFE output to your sub, you should disable the cross-over by either switching it off, as in the case of my SVS, or setting it to its highest value, as in the case of my KSW-10. The phase is infinitely adjustable on the subs we're discussing here. The phase will be dictated by placement and room interactions, not by sub type or brand. John
  6. Carl, How difficult was it to remove the emblem? The emblems on my RBs are on the "chins" and my my RC's emblem is molded into the plastic. I can't access my RSs easily. John
  7. Personally, I like the idea of the RB-25s better. Play them both w/o a sub and see how much difference you can REALLY hear. I suggest some kind of "blind" listening test if possible. The RB-25 has a 5" square horn and a 6.5" woofer while the RF-15 has a 5" square horn and two 5.25" woofers. The RF-15s are rated down to 46Hz while the RB-25s are rated down to 49Hz. As for the sub: Timbre matching is not important for the sub. Just get the sub which will do the best job, in your price range. I have listened to the RWs and I have an SVS. It's very hard to beat SVS for the money. John
  8. My brother just got a deal on some (6 actually) SB-1s. We're thinking of using one as his center channel. It will have to be laid down, but the lens unscrews so it won't be hard to rotate. However, we would also like to be able to move the logo from the bottom of the grill to the side and rotate it so that it looks correct when the speaker is on its side. Has anyoned done this before? I thought I remembered someone doing this (m00n maybe) w/ some RC-7s they were orienting vertically. John
  9. The speakers you got w/ your package are the same as the Klipsch Promedia computer speakers. You may want to check in that forum and at the Klipsch store to see what mounts others use and if Klipsch has any available. John

However, in the meantime, why not unplug all the ports and see how you like that sound? I've got the "little" 25-31PCi and I can't believe that your sub won't relocate your wife's china. John
  11. All I can say is I love my SVS. It bests many subs I've heard costing much more, IMHO. Of course, you've probably already ordered/purchased by now, but hey either way you'll be happy. (You'll be happier w/ the SVS though. j/k ) John
  12. Actually, if you're using a receiver's "Sub Out" line level connection, you want the cross-over disabled. Cascading cross-overs is a VERY bad idea. An SPL meter should be used to properly calbrate the sub. What source material are you using? I have a 25-31PCi tuned to 22Hz and it literally hits me in the back (it's behind me) if it turn the sub about 4dBs w/ the Star Wars movies. John
  13. As a proud owner of the 7400, I vote for the Marantz. It has served me very well. There's not really very many features you're giving up either. The most notable exception to that is the Auto setup. The Marantz remote is good enough that it more than makes up for that, IMHO. John

Since my RB35's were 1 per box I made him open up the RB25 box and prove there were 2 in there. ---------------- Yep, my RBs came 2 to a box. The RB-5s are also two to a box. $400 for a pair isn't a very good deal, though. John
  15. I'm wondering because here is an auction for a pair of RB-35s for $400 BIN. The picture shows two boxes. My RB-25s were packaged two to a box. Surely the dude isn't selling two pairs of speakers and doesn't realize it, right? John
  16. You can do WAAAAAY better than $200 for the stands, unless those are the ONLY ones you like. My dealer basically through in the stands when I bought my RB-25s. John

I recommend the LFM-1 by Outlaw Audio (~$550 or so). With a good subwoofer, RF-25s are not necessary, and RB-25s are a fantastic speaker. ---------------- This would be my recommendation also, if you deviate from your list of options. If you stick w/ your given options, I still pick Option for music and movies. John
  18. I also prefer setup number for the same reasons mentioned. What is the price of the RW-10? If it's over $400, which I'm sure it is, then I would consider the new PB10-ISD from SVS. If it's over $550, I would seriously consider the 25-31PCi from SVS. John
  19. I have the speakers you're going to end up w/ and I use a Marantz SR7400 and am very satisfied w/ it. It has great features, and sounds terrific. I strongly suggest you give Marantz a look. John
  20. A friend of mine just purchased the $299 Denon and I am very impressed w/ it. The biggest drawback is that only has two digital inputs, one each optical and coax. Otherwise, this receiver is a great deal at $300. John
  21. Generally, I tend to agree w/ Unimorpheus about B&M vs Internet store. The piece of mind of having someone to talk to first hand is very important to me. I don't agree w/ that in this case though. Most dealers and manufacturers seem to want make you jump through three hoops that are on fire before acknowledging that something is wrong w/ their product. Here Tom and Erik come forth and take care of the problem first hand in the best possible way. The only thing firefighter will be out is a little time w his sub. (Depending on shipment times, he may not even be out that.) I applaude SVS for their support, before, during, and after the sale. John
  22. I agree w/ Marksdad's concept. $500 for a 5.0 setup MIGHT be a consideration, but any sub worth having is going to blow at least half of that budget. (The most notable exception bieng the Promedia setup mentioned earlier.) However, if you put that $500 towards a pair of speakers, you will be much better off. In a few months you can add another pair, etc. When you're done you'll have a MUCH better system (especially for music) than you will otherwise. If you don't want to go used, then some RB-25s are in your price range w/ the RB-35s possibly being in it if a good deal is found. John
  23. ---------------- ...Then sometimes I get out of the shower, with only a towel wrapped around me, slap some vinyl on, and bop away half naked in my music room to a bit of steamy rock 'n roll... ---------------- The VISUAL!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!! John
