  1. If you want the black cloth, call ralph at Dura crest. His number is 708-344-4900. Ask for the black heritage grille cloth and he will get you what you need. It is an exact match. Thanks Kevin
  2. Sorry to hear of his passing. When I first got started into this hobby, Lynn's posts and help with crossover issues and related matters were very helpful and right on the mark. Even though he didn't know me from adam and we had never met, he was always helpful and took the time to explain things to this novice. My thoughts are with his family, He made this a better place. Kevin
  3. I am working on a project to restore a pair of older Khorns. I have a pair of al-3 crossovers from other projects that are in good shape that I am considering using. How do you convert (if you can easily) an al-3 crossover to an ak-3 crossover? Is it as simply as replacing a capacitor or two or is there more to it - and if so, to what value of capacitor? Many thanks for your help Kevin
  4. Thanks Rick on #2 and #3. I thought that might be too easy to simply unscrew and remove the front board. That is a great idea on laying a piece over the existing board though. I blew it on #1. What I have is a "C" and I am trying to do is add the riser or the neck to it, which I thought was a "B". Thanks again for your help. If you have been through this before, any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Kevin
  5. I wanted to ask for some help from someone who has been through this before. I ran across a pair of 1967 khorns in black that seem to be original in every way, the problem is while the cabinets are structurally sound, they are in tough cosmetic shape. (1) I am going to try to convert them from "B" to "C" style. Does anyone have any measurements or good pictures for the back and bottom of the upper cabinet? The upper cabinet is cosmetically dinged pretty badly so I can rebuild parts of it with new plywood if need be. (2) the front board on the bass bin is pretty tough cosmetically as well. The speakers throughout seem to be put together with screws. The front board seems to be attached by several screws that are angled in from behind on the sides. Does anyone know if I can remove the front board and replace it with a new board? Is the front board glued/ sealed or just screwed? I don't know if that front board is part of the bass horn or just cosmetic. If that front board can be replaced, it adds a lot of flexibility in how these are refinished. (3) I am going to try to put veneer banding on the edges of these to make them more presentable. Does anyone know what kind of plywood was used back then so I can try to match the veneer grain to the plywood or at least get close. Thanks for the help, I wanted to get some of your thoughts before I dug in. Kevin
  6. Can anyone tell me the measurements on the toekick/trim board on the bottom of the front of the khorns? Many thanks, Kevin
  7. Hey guys and gals, There are some khorns on ebay that look priced right if you are in the area. Not affiliated whatsoever. Hope someone here gets them. Can't paste the link for some reason but search "klipschorn" on ebay and you will find them. $1,500 BIN! Kevin
  8. Tom, I have used the TFM-15, which is on the lower end of the TFM amps with Khorns, La scalas and Heresys and like it very much with all of them. The amp is more powerful than you can take on those speakers and I really like the sound. While it does not sound like a good tube amp to me, it sounds somewhere between a good tube amp and a good solid state amp with some of the benefits of both. I have had it since new in 1990 or so and never had a problem with it and you can pick them up for a song. I think the higher TFM's are more favorably reviewed. Good luck, Kevin

  13. For me, I would go for the 91's. The crossover is great and it should have to composite horn in the mid range. Good luck, Kevin
  14. I have a pair of 86 Heresy II's and am thinking of replacing the capacitor(s) in the crossover. The back panel does not appear removable. Do you remove the woofer to get to the crossover, or am I missing something? Also, does anyone know the uf value of the capacitor or any other mod I should consider while I am in there? Many thanks for your help. Kevin
  15. I had the same speakers in the same year and the AL is the stock network. I went to a pair of AA crossovers and to my ears it was a huge improvement over the AL network. I have tried the A crossover network as well, but for my tastes, preferred the AA's to both the AL and the A. Good luck! Kevin
  16. Justin, I think the grills would look fabulous. I was always wondering what could be done with that area back there to enhance the look. I think you have the right idea. What would a set of those cost (in black cloth) for a pair of LS? Do you need to make any adjustments/ modifications to the speaker to use these? Thanks and thanks for posting, Kevin
  17. Does anyone know what the frame of the speaker grills are made of (and what the material is called) for the grills on Heresy, La scalas, etc.? I am building some for the La scalas. IF so, does anyone have a source for this? As always, many thanks and much appreciated. Kevin
