  1. Mark, If I was to send you my preamp, could you beef it up?
  2. Craig, It has to do alot with the mixing of the CD as well, like on my Metallica, Korn CD's, there is good bass definition and you can feel it. On some like older cd's from the mid to early 90's and also some new cd's it is somewhat lacking in some rock cd's.
  3. Hmmm, very interesting write up Mark, thanks for taking the time to explain it all out. So, from the information gathered i have some options to play with. I might pick up an EQ to play with from Ebay. I imagine the EG sits between the amps and preamps, also my preamp is a current production unit made by Audio Experience which is a guy in Hong Kong who makes them, here are the specs for my preamp, tell me what you think. Thanks!! This is a link to the page with the details, please tell me what you think about the build and circuit design. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?preatube&1097724957
  4. Thank you for the clarification Mark, I would assume then it must be in the preamp. My preamp does not have tone controls, so then I would probably be better off buying a tube preamp with tone controls to add more bass if i desire, what do you think? On some discs there is nice bass, on others it is lacking somewhat.
  5. What I am trying to achieve is better bass response, I want some heavy bass and was looking to use a pair of the solid state amps for the low frequencies. How would you guys go about it, should I just split the left and right signals with a Y splitter as MDeneen suggested and have the signal go to each amp and then run the LF posts to the solid state amps and the HF posts to the Dynaco Mark III's?
  6. Yup, Craig hooked me up with a good deal as well. I will try these Tesla's in my brothers 299-C and see how they sound!
  7. Thanks for the information Mark, would i be able to achieve the same thing by buying an external electronic crossover from Ebay and using that to handle the signals from the preamp to each of the amps? How bout some of these crossovers I found on Ebay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=23792&item=3747266959&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41421&item=3747340271&rd=1
  8. Hi Guys, Ive been reading some reviews here about bi amping and the added benefits. I am wanting to Biamp my RF-7's and need some assistance on what I would need as far as active crossovers and such to achieve this endeavor. I have currently Dynaco Mark III mono amps and would like to use those for the mid range and highs and have a pair of Monobloc Solid state amps to handle bass duty. So there you have it, please give me some recommendations on how to go about this. Thank You!!!
  9. So does Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Robert Goulet, Dean Martin
  10. I have mint condition Pioneer DV-563A SACD/DVD-Audio/DVD player for sale, it is an awesome player for the price of $120 Plus shipping. I paid $160 for it 2 months ago. It comes with box, manual and remote. The player is practically new and didnt get much use, i was very surprised of the sound quality from this unit on SACD and DVD audio, on movies it has progressive scan and it is very crisp on the picture.
  11. Ive been listening to more and more rock and here are some of my recommendations: 1. Korn self titled album 2. Korn "Life is Peachy" 2. Korn "Issues" 3. Korn "Untouchables" 4. Mudvayne "The end of all things to come" 5. Disturbed "Believe"
  12. Congrats on the purchase, those look like some very cool amps!! I have been itching to get a pair of 2A3 set amps, I might have to get a pair and see what the hoopla is about. Right now im running a pair of highly modified Dynaco Mark III amps with Triode or UL mode. So the Dynaco's would be more of a brute amp with tons of power I would imagine, in Triode mode they sound very clean and crisp and voices are natural and smooth.
  13. Thanks for the reply, I have my amps plugged into the Belkin filter, I had an electrician wire a new 2 outlet wall plug directly to the breaker box with its own 20 AMP breaker, seperate from all the other wiring in the house for my amps and stereo equipment a few days ago. The voltage is more stable to the amps when i have my bias meter hooked up to it, and i dont pick up noises from my ceiling fans speed selector switch on the wall any longer.
  14. For that price range , you can get a nice MSB Link DAC III with the 132khz sampling upgrade, I got mine for $325 shipped off Audiogon about 5 months ago.
  15. DeanG, That was hilarious man, I burst out laughing here at work LeoK, Will I be limiting the dynamics of my Mark III amps by plugging them into my Belkin 9 port FC-905 Filter Isolator?
  16. Hi Guys, How would you compare sound wise a 70's era Mcintosh MA-6100 Integrated Solid state amp to a rebuilt Scott 299-C with Auricaps and a new rebuild with NOS GE 7591A tubes?
  17. As a potential future Khorn owner, what would be the benefit of say spending $6k on a 2004 model Khorn, when i can get a Late 80's model for $1400-1500 and have the crossovers modified? Is the newer Khorn have a better tweeter? better driver materials? Better damping and internal cabinet materials?
  18. Interesting writeup, I wonder how the TungSols compare to the Valve Art KT-88, i have put in an order for a Quad off Ebay and they should come in by tommorow or Wednesday. Ill see how they compare to my Svetlana 6550-B's that are in there now in my Dynaco Mark III amps.
  19. Hmm, Interesting. Thanks for opening up that power supply. So, the parts donot look that bad at all and considering most dont hear the diffrence between the two, I would assume its not a well worth investment to buy the external power supply.
  20. Ahh, very informative Mark Thanks for the explanation, so presumably the floor wart is a pretty good supply as is. SunnySal, That would be very cool if you could take it apart and see whats inside, Id like to see the internals of the infamous Floor Wart
  21. Mdeneen, Seeing as how you are a experienced electronics engineer and know your stuff, what are the main diffrences between a wall plug in power supply and one that sits on the floor?
  22. Yeah, Ive kinda takin a likin to my "Floor wart" Here is what it looks sort of like, I tried to find a pic that looks similair to the power supply, its a black box with one wire going to the outlet and the other with a DIN pin connector that goes into the DAC.
  23. Here are some internal pics of the Link DAC III with upgraded 132KHZ Burr brown upsampling chip installed, you can see the entire PCB and internal pictures of the external upgraded power base. Here is an internal pic of the power supply that is optional, it is Toroidial and seems to have a small PCB that is with it. Here is a close up of the external powerbase PCB for you electronics guys
