  1. Nice set-up! I have a Mitsubishi and rack similiar to yours. I just shifted my center speaker over, so that it equally spaced between the mains. Looked strange at first but I got use to it. Something else to consider.
  2. What's next, only Aragon products can be discussed?
  3. I'm going to miss the political threads, found them rather entertaining.
  4. Are there any architectual features that can be built into the walls or ceiling of a HT to help improve acoustics and cut down on the amount of room treatment that will be needed? Something like stepped or angled walls? Thanks

    Door Placement

Thanks for the suggestions. After some education from this forum and some reading I've decided to go ahead and wall off the HT. I didn't realize that the environemt had such a large impact on sound reproduction and how important it was to start off with acoustically friendly dimensions. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the entrance at the rear wall. What would be the next best location? Thanks
  6. What is the best location for the entrance door into a dedicated HT that's roughly 16' x 24', with a 10' ceiling? Where will it cause the least amount of acoustical problems, side-wall towards the rear? Thanks

    Books

Besides Master Handbook of Acoustics, are there any other books that can be recommended that cover room treatment for HT? Specifically, one that focuses on how-to solutions. Thanks

    Database Software

Technical level is very low. I'm looking for something straight-foward, fairly easy to use and learn. I have XP and will be using the software for personal, inventory list for homeowner's insurance, dvd collection, financial records, ect... Instead of having to purchase several software programs, one for dvd collection, one for home inventory, ect... I'd like to find something that I can customize. Thanks

    Database Software

Doesn't have anything to do with Klipsch but thought I'd ask anyway. Does anyone have experience with database software? I'm looking at FileMaker Pro 7, any opinions? Are there any other brands to consider? Thanks

    Amp for RB-75

The set-up will be used primarily for movies. I have one PB2-Plus now, will get the second after I move. I'm getting impatient with the all the delays and want to go ahead and purchase some of the speakers, 2 RB-75's and RC-7. That's all I have room for at the moment. I've also been considering just using RB-75's instead of RF-7's for the front. The more I read and think about it, with dual subs and not being concerned with music reproduction, the towers shouldn't be needed. Plus, using bookshelves instead of RF-7's will save about $1000, which can be put towards an amp or amps. With a HT consisting of 6 RB-75's and RC-7, what would be the appropriate amplification? I'm going with B&K, either 125 or 200 wpc. Thanks

    Amp for RB-75

Is 125 watts sufficient for RB-75's or should a 200 wpc amp be used? Thanks
  12. Construction won't be finished for sometime and I'm getting the impression there isn't anyway to know to what extent the walls will need treatment until everything is set-up. I was hoping I'd be able to get a general idea of the costs for my particular room, see if I could work it into the budget, but I guess I'm just getting too far ahead. Thanks again for all the info and advice! I'm sure I'll have many more questions further down the road. Thanks
  13. Thanks for all the input. I'm going to do a search to see if I can find the article mentioned. What's the general rule when determining how high up the wall you treat? I'm going to have between 10' to 12' ceilings, would I need to take the panels up the entire wall? What about the bottom of the wall, at what height would I need to start treatment? Thanks for the info.
  14. The 2" thick fiberglass panels you used, are they basically the same as the Pro Panels, same size and wrapped in fabric? Or did you use panels that cover the entire wall, something like 4'x 8' sheets that take the place of sheet rock? Is using heavy, hanging fabric an option? Thanks.
  15. I have made several purchases within the past 6 months with no problems. I know some others have had problems, I think with H/K products. If you do purchase, call in your order. They do price matching and will usually come down off the prices listed on their website.
  16. How do you determine the placement and the amount of wall you need to cover when using absorption panels, Auralex Pro Panels or similiar? I have seen applications where panels seemed to be placed in random positions and other examples where the entire wall is covered. Since there not cheap, I was wondering if they can be put on the wall spaced? You could save a considerable amount of money if they can be placed, say 6 inches apart or more. At what point would exposed wall between the panels defeat the purpose of using them? Are there any other types of wall treatments to consider? Thanks.

    Which Amp?

I would like to eventually upgrade to a higher end pre-pro but I think I'll be stuck with the Pioneer for quite a while. I'm leaning towards the 200.3 just because I think it will have a longer shelf life, since I may not be able to purchase another amp right away. I would hate to get the 200.2 and immediately notice that the center was lacking but not have the funds to do anything about it. I will mainly be using this set-up for movies, so do you still think the 100 wpc would be insufficient for the surrounds? Thanks for the opinions.

I put the information on my system profile.

    Which Amp?

I'm going to be purchasing an amp in the near future but I'm not sure how many channels I should go with. My receiver is rated at 100 wpc and I'm planning on letting it take care of the surround channels. I'm getting either the B&K 200.2 or 200.3, just not sure which configuration would work best. Is 100 watts enough to run an RC-7 or does it need more? Would it work best to let the RF-7's have a dedicated amp? 200.2 for RF-7's or 200.3 for RC-7 and RF-7's? It will be sometime before I'm able to upgrade to additional amp or amps for the remaining channels so I want the go with the option that I'll be happy with, performance wise, for an extended period. Thanks for your opinions.

    "Golden Mean"

It would be really difficult to try to get the HT placed so the side walls would be equal distances apart, it would really waste floor space. I could probably get it moved 10' from one side wall, but that would be it. I'm really considering using the corner setup you suggested, I hadn't even considered it before. I'm going to have to spend so time sketching to see what options I have but it seems like it's a pretty good idea. The only downside is I was looking foward to having the stacked subs visible, just think it would look cool. Thanks.

The only reason I even brought up the trading software was because I thought it was interesting that Artto was using fibonacci to calculate acoustics and that it was also used in trading. . I never claimed that it was a sure thing and would produce huge returns, "BIG MONEY". My father just trades as a hobby. He's not trying to make "BIG MONEY", just have fun. He's trying to get me into day trading because he's convinced I have too much free time. As a side note... I wasn't trying to start an argument. I agree with everything you said IndyKlipschFan but I think we are talking about two different things. Trading E-Mini S&P 500 contracts, which my father does using the fibanacci software vs. buying company stock for the long-term are two completely different things. As I understand it, it is much easier to use statistical data when trading E-Minis and similiar markets. I'm not claiming that to be a fact, just the way I understand it, since I'm not an Investment Advisor - Portfolio Manager. The room is going to be the main living area. Kitchen and and dining on one end, HT and pool table on the other, with a fireplace and lounge area in the middle. I'm not using ceiling speakers. I'm going to use Ref 7 with bookshelves for surrounds, which will be dropped from the ceiling. I wanted to keep the room as open as possible so putting up a wall is something I'd like to avoid. Would moving the HT 5' away from the side-wall, more towards the center of the room improve acoustics or would I be better off just placing it in the corner? If I use the coner option, would that eliminate the need for wall treatments? Thanks for the advice!

artto, The ceiling height will be between 10'-12'. Do you think the walls bordering the HT will need acoustic treatment? I don't know enough about using Fibonacci Ratios to assist in prediciting market turning points to contradict your view but however my father has been using them he's been able to greatly increase his percentage of money making trades. I'll have to get back with you once I have a better idea of what he's doing. I know that he doesn't rely on them soley but combines them with other factors and he only uses them when trading E-Minis.

artto, I have read many of the past posts in the forum and you seem to be very knowledgeable and passionate about audio, I hope I could get your opinion on my room dimensions. I'm planning on placing the HT area in the corner of a large room, 50' X 75'. I will have roughly 20' wide and 30' deep of available space. Do you foresee any problems? What will result in having two walls border the HT while the other two are 30'+ away? Thanks in advance. Just a side note. My father has just begun teaching me to use fibonacci ratios to assist in options trading. The software takes the resulting info and overlays it on a chart to help determine future turning points. I'm not a mathematical person, but I wonder what else fibonacci ratios are used for?

Thanks for the explanation and link. It was full of good info but not what I was looking for, probably because of a poor description on my part. I'm trying to figure out proper speaker placement for a HT within a portion of a larger room. I will basically only have two walls for the HT area, the wall behind the center and front speakers and one side-wall, with the remaining two walls a minimum 25' from the HT area. Simply put, the HT will be in one corner of a larger room. So with only two walls touching the HT area do I still need to be concerned with speaker placement dimensions? Or are there other potential problems to consider since I will only have reflections bouncing off two walls instead of four? Thanks again.
