  1. My church has been doing this as well for the last year or so and it's great. We currently pass out about 1,000 meal packages a month. It's a great deal and it's good quality food! We expect the monthly numbers to grow during this economy.
  2. Already have the nail gun so speakers it will be (unless something breaks in the house in the next couple of weeks). I don't think the wifey would go for them mounted around my ears so Ithink I might try them off to the sides. If I like 'em(and can hear them above live drums), I'll mount them into the wall and if not...saaaaaave the receipt!
  3. I just had my b'day and I got a $100 gift certificate from Lowe's. The problem is that I'm in pretty good shape as far as tools go but I need to downsize my speakers in my drum room (WAF). I've got to give it to her since she's let me do almost everything I wanted in the family/movie room so I'm okay with getting smaller speakers when I practice drumming. Does anyone have any comments on these speakers from Lowes? I could eventually move them out to the patio/pool since they're outdoor rated. I can't believe I'm hearing myself actually requesting info on buying speakers from Lowe's but I'm already 2/3's of the way there with my gift certificate. I need to know volume capability (so I can hear it above my drums and quality of the sound). On-Q/Legrand Speakers Outdoor 5.2 PR OQ Item #: 248223 Model: 364659-02-V1 http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=248223-60784-364659-02-V1&lpage=none
  4. It's a gateway 3Ghz Desktop with lot's of RAM and harddrive space. I had to completely clean it off a few months ago due to a virus that I never seemed to be able to get rid of. I'll go back thru the software bundle they provided me when I got the computer. It sounds like, when I reloaded the computer from scratch, that I somehow missed the DVD burning software that came with it. Thanks!
  5. Oh crap! Okay...okay...okay (Jacksonbart)...I did mention something about being dumb or something in my message so maybe the shoe fits. It's definitely a DVD and not a CD. As for the question about size of the video, I have no idea. I haven't looked. All of my movies are originally recorded on mini-dv and then transferred to DVD thru the Sony (model # unknown) DVD recorder. They are all 1 hour long (or less).
  6. I must be dumb or something but I'm trying to make duplicates of my home video's to give out to my family for Christmas (hopefully it won't bore them) and I can't seem to figure out how to copy a full DVD (home video) to another blank DVD. I'm running Windows XP on a fairly new computer and have a single read/write DVD drive. If I copy all the contents of the DVD(with home movie on it) onto my harddrive and then swap out to a blank DVD, can I just hit "Copy files to DVD" and it will make a readable duplicate that my mom can put in her DVD player?
  7. hmmm...an affectionate mountain biking term (and I'm very good at it!)....end-over-end....
  8. It's a 19 HP Kawasaki. Thanks for the info on the Turf Forum. I've been catching up for a while now.
  9. Since your catching up on the old topics, I'll fill you in. I found a 2007 Hustler Mini Z, 42inch cut, with just over 100 hours on it on Craigslist. Still under factory waranty. I got it for $3500. WHAT A MACHINE!!!!!!! We've had so much rain in my area that I've only been able to mow twice with it and I'm just now getting the hang of it. It used to take about an hour on my lawn tractor but on my second mowing with the Hustler, I've got it down to 38 minutes. With a little more practice, I'd like to break the 30 minute barrier. The Hustler mini is the smallest commercial machine they make and it's built like a small tank. Top speed is 8mph which is fine for my 1 acre of property. It's so much fun that I'm looking for opportunities to mow now!!!!!
  10. All good info... I'm currently watching for Dixie, Exmark, Hustler, Scag or maybe a Great Dane. If I'm buying used...how many hours is too many hours(800, 1000, 1200????). I don't want to have to get into maintenance (more than normal). This is for home use and the point is to buy a mower that saves me time not waste it. Mowing season in FL is about 9 months and you'll mow once a month for the other three. That makes for about 30 hours a year!
  11. My 8 year old Yard Machine lawn tractor is expected to bite the dust in very short order and when you live in Florida during the summer time, you can't afford to be without a mower for more than 2 weeks. The jungle will take over. I've been on the lookout now for the last couple of months for a good used commercial zero turn mower. Preferably a 44" to 52" deck (nothing smaller or larger). I hear tell that a commercial mower is good for about 3500 hours while a great residential mower is only good for about 300 hours so commercial it is for me. Anyone have any recommedations or NON-recommendations? I've got just under an acre and about $3K to spend. I've been watching the mowers on craigslist and Ebay that have no more than 1000 hours.
  12. I went to a local electronics surplus shop and bought a 240 volt muffin fan for $5. I wired it up and plugged it into the "switched" 120 volt outlet on the amp so it only comes on when the amp is on. Temps on my amp dropped from 125 degrees F down to about 95 degrees F. It's not "fancily" routed to redirect air thru some special tunnel. It sits slightly above the amp (in the back out of sight) and simply blows a light breeze over the top to remove the rising heat. Can't hear a thing and I feel like I've added life to my amp!
  13. Whew, what a wild ride. Just getting back into work after being out for 3 days. Wind was not really a big deal where I live. 40 mph winds can happen regularly in an ordinary summer Florida thunderstorm. We did however break a 50 year rainfall record in this area (Melbourne). We got anywhere from 18" to 21 inches of rain in a 48 hour period depending on where you were collecting. Florida sand can absorb rain much easier than other places with hard compacted soil but 18+ inches is more than anything can handle. Although my house didn't have any damage, there's lots of houses out there that have significant water damage. We did a little wakeboarding behind the pick-up in the street out front to help with the cabin fever. Of course that was only on the first day. By day two, nothing could pass thru the streets. It was waaaay too deep.
  14. Everyone's talking about checking your tire pressure to within a psi or so but does anyone have any idea how accurate your tire gages is? Some of them baby's can be off as much as 5 psi (or worse). What's everyone using to check with?
  15. Lots of great ideas. Thanks a bunch. I can easily recheck some of the settings on my receiver and phasing but I'll have to wait 'till no ones home before I dig more into the speaker testing and placement stuff. I'll give you the full scoop once I get some research done. I still haven't had time to take pics and get them posted. Hope to soon.
  16. I know this has been asked before but I did a search and couldn't really find what I wanted. I am putting the finishing touches on my family room/home theater and after moving my Chorus II's to their (near) final position, it seems like I've lost some of the low end that I previously enjoyed with them. I know it's a room dynamics and placement issue because I lost the recipe as soon as I moved them. However, I've got to find time when my 4 year old isn't home to really check things out. What movie DVD's do you recommend for checking out low end stuff? Since I will be playing the scene and listening and then moving my Chorus's and repeating this over and over, it is helpful if the scene has about a minute of good low end stuff (as opposed to a quick shot of a train driving by) for comparison purposes. I don't have a sub and not really sure if the wife will ever allow one into the budget. She's already been gracious enough to let me keep my hugh Chorus II's which produce some of the best lows I know of without stepping into owing a sub. Man can they shake the walls and put a serious grin on your face!!!! I plan on putting pics up soon to get some other fine tuning recommendations but I wanted to play a little with what I have so I can ask more intelligent questions. I've got: Samsung LN-T5271, 2 Chorus II's, 2 RS-35's and 1 RC-3 II. Movie recommendations?
  17. Waaaay back in 1993, I bought myself a brand spanking new patriot red Z28 for $19K. It was the first of the new generation with the LT1 and $19K was a great price! It was my daily driver and fun machine at "Test and Tune" night at the local dragstrip. I raced it for a few years and eventually made a few minor modifications that got me to 13.5's at 105mph in the quarter mile. My point being, it was a great car that never failed me. 15 years later, I still have it as my second car (Honda gets better mileage). It needs a new paint job, headliner and could use a tune up but it still runs like a tamed monster. There's was nothing even close to comparable for $19K (and still isn't). I can only assume they're making them as good as they made 'em in 1993. If I had the money, I'd buy the new one in a blink of an eye. What an awsome looking car! I just hope the gas crunch doesn't kill 'em off.
  18. I wish you were right but there's plenty of light coming in those slots! I've got a large "stand-up" attic and I've spent lots of time up there.
  19. Yeah...you would think that would be the case. I've got ridge vents that run the entire length of the peak of my roof and vented soffits that run the entire perimeter of the roof and around 3 to 4pm on a sunny Summer day (hmmm...it's Florida so that would be almost every day), my attic temps are around 120 to 130. The surface temp of the inside roof is 140...and I just had a new roof put on two years ago. My attic is insulated extremely well. I had the home energy survey done last year and they were impressed with the level of insulation. I even have two attic fans (that just broke) that are designed to vent the attic air to the outside and the Florida Power and Light inspector said that she wouldn't recommend replacing them. She said the energy required to run the fans pretty much cancels out the load to keep the inside of the house cool when the attic is insulated as well as mine is. You can't add more insulation in Florida becuase it will start to trap moisture...and that's worse than a high electrical bill....
  20. Oops...I forgot to mention that my Time Warner box DOES have the HDD in it.
  21. Maybe this will help... Here is my stack up on top of my Chorus II's. HK amp/receiver sits on top of the Chorus...Sony DVD player sits on top of the amp (don't yell at me...I have a two+ inch gap above my receiver with a muffin fan to keep it cool) and then the Time Warner box sits on top of that so it's about 15 inches above the speaker and I don't have any problems.
  22. It's rare that the best solution seems to be the easy solution. I like the electrical box and fiberglass idea! All of my wiring is temporarily hooked up to make sure everything works but it's hanging out all over the family room. That means my wife would really like it if I get my butt up in the attic and finsih the job! I have a 3 day weekend coming up but walking around in your attic in July in Florida is NASTY so hopefully I can get it done in two early morning attic ventures. You've got to be out of there by lunch time or it's 130+ degrees.
  23. I'm moving one step closer to getting my surround system set up in the family room but the next step is to get my bundle of wires up through the ceiling so they can be routed from the attic down to the appropriate components(HDTV and speakers). I need to get HDMI cable, component cable and 3 or 4 speaker wires up through a single hole. It's cake to drill a 1"dia. hole with my hole saw and fill in with some expando-foam but is there a cleaner way to do this? It will be in a relatively hidden area but I want to make sure it's sealed (to keep my a/c in) but I don't want to spend $50+ for some type of wiring plate either.
  24. I'm still in caulking mode so I need some time to get things back together (and to get the dishwasher back in). I don't want to set you up for something huge 'cause it's just a counter redo but it's a major improvement over what it was before. It is amazing what a well placed $1,500 bill will get you! I'll get some pics loaded sometime next week. I have major kitchen plans to knock down walls, install an island, put in new cabinets and upgrade to granite countertops but that's years away. This will keep us happy for quite a while! We just finished a large master bathroom and family room remodel (and I'm still getting my home theater situated) so we're out-o-money!
  25. Even though I would probably have more fun with the grinding wheel idea, my wife would probably not enjoy it as much as me so I thought it would be in my best interest to email both liquid nails and Wilsonart (actual laminate manufacturer) and see what they had to say. Liquid nails responded within 15 minutes of my email and said heat, petroleum jelly or mineral spirits would work if allowed to soak for a short time. It will soften the liquid nails and then it could be lifted with a plastic knife. Wilsonart responded the same day and said acetone should work to remove the haze and leave the counters clean so I'm going to give things a try tonight. Both groups recommended cleaning up the chemicals with soap and water immediately after the task was completed. Thanks for your input!
