  1. Hey, that looks like the new Klipsch-Fisherprice kitchen entertainment center prototype. It comes witha 15" disposal!
  2. J. I don't think veneering the Scalas would be as hard as you think. If you can the the veneer long enought so that you don't have to but splice laying out the veneer into the base should be do-able with some carefull measuring and care. Course it all depends on what shape the speaker is in to start with. I mean if they are the black ones at worse you could repaint them if your not happy with the results. I don't think I would try and dissasemble these though because they probably are glued and nailed or screwed together which might mess up the plywood if you try and take them apart. As you know, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Cheers!
  3. Found the Heresy badges for the speakers, thanks Trey. Klipsch sells them for $2.50 each at the store. That projects finished. Now for the Dynaco st 70 to arrive that I just picked up. Oh and I also picked up another pair of hersey II's on ebay. Soon as I check them out I plan to clean them up and maybe put them up for sale to help pay for a preamp. Just depends on how they look. I think they are HWO's but can't be sure just yet. If your interested in a pair give me a buzz.
  4. thanks Shawn, I've got them saved to my favorites page. I'll follow these instructions when the box arrives.
  5. Us engineers never were very good with our English much less Latin. So you would agree that too much sex is a SIN also?
  6. I have the HT setup your talking about and I'm quite pleased with mine. I bought the v1400 about 6 months ago after my JVC got fried by lightening which was a good thing. I hated the JVC. The yamaha is connected to my cornwalls and heresies with a klipsch center channel. Sounds pretty darned good to me. It'll blow you out of the house. The yamaha to me was a little difficult to get used to, though. The remote isn't very user friendly in my opinion, but with all the features nothing in its class is going to be simple. It's a very heavy piece of equipment and so far hasn't given me any problems. I was considering the HK route but I heard there were reliability problems with HK these days. You can pick these up on Ebay for less that 550. Mine came with warrenty info. and I don't think I'll have any problems if I need to have if service. hope this helps you with your delima. gk
  7. This poor boy just got himself a "tube" amp. An Ebay special, Dynaco Stereo 70. Now I'll see just how good that tube sound is with my cornwalls and heresies.(Is that the correct plural spelling, heresys?) Anyway, latched on to another pair of Heresy II's this afternoon as well. Boy am I going to get yelled at. Anyone who specializes in the Dynaco gear with some advice for a novice would be welcome. Now I need a preamp. More trouble brewing on the homefront.
  8. Klipschaholik; when you listen to the sound long enough you develop an addiction, and the only satisfaction you can achieve is to have more.
  9. Way to go. Didn't ruin the wife's iron did you? Mess up the kitchen or something worse. After she sees how good they look, she will forgive you and maybe even let you back in the house, LOL.
  10. Niiiice! Good job Rick. Did you put any stain on the walnut? They have a nice redish glow in the picture. I applied a second application of BLO this weekend outside in the warm FL sun. I am really pleased with the appearence. Starting to think about re-doing my Corns to get back to that original brownish walnut. Mine have turned that orangish color over the years. Wonder what everyone thinks about that.
  11. I finished veneering my heresys and am in need of some copper badges. If you have two to spare let me know. thanks, Gordon
  12. What impact or effect do you get with a CD player connected to the tubes?
  13. Ouch! that's more than I can stomach. I'll have to keep looking around.
  14. Duhh!, Yes, I have the 'TT' thanks, So I will need a tube preamp as well to get the full benefit, unless I go with an integrated model. Hmm!
  15. Not quite sure what you mean by TT. Hate to show my ignorance. here. Would I defeat my purpose of a tube amp by utilizing my NAD receiver and bypassing the amp?
  16. I'm not really sure. Open to suggestions. I'm not set on vintage, but I thought that would be the least expensive way to start.
  17. I'm thinking about a tube amp for my cornwalls and have been looking at Ebay. I see some Dynaco gear listed. Anybody have any suggestions or comments on Dynaco or another amp. I'm not looking to spend more than several hundred if that's possible.
  18. Finally finished. I applied a 'BLO', boiled linseed oil finish and they look pretty nice, if I may say so myself, for an amateur. Now if I can just find some badges. Anyone have a spare pair laying around? I'll throw up a few more pics to follow. The worst problem I had with the veneer was some splitting while applying the hot iron to the surface. I may not have let the glue set up long enough, but a little wood filler blended with some walnut stain fills the cracks and doesn't show up much. But, don't be afraid to try this if you've been considering it.
  19. Say HDBRbuilder, My C's have the serial numbers 8517789 and 8517790, can you tell me when these were built? they are CWL which I believe is walnut lacquer
  20. Yes, if you have the time. It makes handling the speaker much easier and you will have to move them around. I just didn't want to take the time to remove the components, but these speakers only weight in at 45 pounds. The C's are going to be heavy even without the components so if your not rushed you may save yourself a trip to the chiropractor. If you leave them in, be sure you use a heavey paper; I used shelf paper and masking tape. You certainly don't won't trash getting inside your horns. I'm thinking about refinishing my C's after I get through with the Heresys. Good luck
  21. It helps to fill any dents or chips to the base you are applying the veneer to. Overlap the veneer sheets 1/4 inch on all edges, and after the glue sets I hand trim the edges with the exacto knife down to 1/16 inch or so then hand sand with a sanding block keeping the block flat as you cross the edges of the speaker so as not to round over the cabinet. I rough sand with a 150 grit and next with a 220 and finally down to a 600 grit. I did pull the 600 grit sheet across the edges without the block holding the ends of the sheet and pulling it back and forth over the edge. This paper removes very little wood. I used a wood conditioner and fine steel wool before before staining. I'm working on the finish now. more pics to come.
  22. The cherry stain gives the walnut a nice rich brown color
