  1. Paul Hovenga has done all my work for me. I started using him before he opened to the general public.
  2. The first time I saw the "vertical" CW at the factory, I was told that they were built that way to mount sideways over a mixing console for recording studio use. I thinl it was Don Peterson that told me that.
  3. I read all of Casteneda, starting out as a high school assignment. Hard to picture him being prevalent around Hope, that must have been cool. Was there a place you all got together? Dry county, I can't picture a coffee bar there either. For drinking in public we went to Texarkana. Friend's houses, mainly. We had some annual large get-togethers. The coon cookings and the Klipsch harvest festivals at Don Peterson's house. Weekly poker games, etc.
  4. A LOT of my life's philosophy blossomed in Hope in the late 70's early 80's. It was a center of counterculture that few knew about. Most due to Klipsch and Associates. Dawkins is too arrogant in his presentations. I much prefer Joseph Campbell. Castaneda was prevalent around Hope in the time period I mentioned.
  5. I have run my Klipshorns with a lot of different amps, receivers, etc, One of the very good ones is an AVR, Sony DA5300ES. Dead quiet and I only have $50 in it. I run them most often with my heavily modded Sansui 7900. I have also tried a dead quiet HH Scott 322. Only of their early SS receivers currently pushing my Epic CF-2.
  6. I have a larger Grundig in the living room. The cabinet on my other Grundig is gorgeous! The cabinet on the one I am having to gut has cracked finish and a damaged corner. The speakers are two midrange and two tweeters for the stereo. The large woofer is run in mono. The biggest surprise is the ribbon tweeters.

  8. Anyone have any experience with these units? I had thought about saving the receiver portion. I am debating on keeping the chassis and building a wood case for it, or at least keeping the major parts. Grundig Majestic SO 120 Ua
  9. I love the sound of both. The main difference is in horns vs. direct radiator. I like the smaller home theater room for the 802, and the larger space for Klipschorns. Besides, I got such a fantastic deal on the pair of 802 with matching sub, center, and 805 for the rears, I couldn't pass up the full complement! I also have enough in my collection to make a full Heritage HT, and also a full vintage Altec HT. Who knows which way this hobby will go with all the new teh coming now and in the future?
  10. I have owned a lot of direct radiators and the 802 are the best I have heard in my many listening spaces. The off-axis response is utterly amazing. The Klipschorns will go into a new listening room, the 802 will go into the home theater. I had originally planned on having the HT done with the Klispchorns, La Scala, Belles, and KP-201 with a tapped horn sub. I am keeping all the above and getting rid of my other vintage speaks that I have held onto over the decades. That includes a couple of Epics, OLA, Mach Ones, Altec 9842d monitors, Altec Model 8, and on and on. I have enough vintage Altec for a HT, also using an orphaned Altec Model 14 as a center (all Mantaray horns in an HT). My next project is gutting my tubed consoles that are taking up space. How did I gather up so much gear??? and over 10,000 LP's?
  11. Andy, Bobby was the plant accountant. He also worked out in the plant at one time. I worked a lot of environmental complaints for Klipsch against Hudson Foods. Bobby just happened to be the one in the office I happened to ask about getting a pair of speakers. I have seen Bobby's signature on labels in the past also. Seems like everyone I knew in that time period at Klipsch rotated through the inspection station at one time or another.
  12. It looked like the edges had been routed over instead of molding. But it could just be my old eyes! Bobby Barham was who hot me my Heresies. He asked me how I wanted the efge.
  13. Glad you did this since I forget my own name at times..... Seriously, thanks for your efforts!!!
  14. Don't get me wrong, I love my Klipschorns! I have looked at the miniDSP and that is the direction I am going with mine.
  15. It appears that the top of the dovetail legs are raised above the top shelf? Interesting. I would have made it flush and missed adding such an exquisite touch. Wonderful!
  16. I can understand why the 802 are used as monitors. They are fantastic for near-field listening. Better than my JBL 4333a.
  17. I am looking forward to correcting the delay on the Klipschorns. It is my next audio project. I am enclosing the back porch area as a 2 channel room. It will give me the width I need for the corners. One of the things that we have discussed is selling our place and building a smaller house which would have a room specifically designed for the corner horns. I remember the first time I went to the sound room in Hope and heard the Klipschorns with a Belle in the center in 1976. That is what I am striving for. At that time, all the walls had an ever so slight bend to each to reduce flat reflections. We would sit on the couch and spin something in the evenings. All the supervisors and up had keys to the office. Spent many an evening listening to those wonderful sounds. All the equipment was McIntosh in the sound room.
  18. My hearing is pretty shot with a loss on upper range, middle range in the range of female voices (at least I use that as an excuse), and constant tinnitus of different frequencies (each ear has its own pitch). What amazes me is that I can hear the difference of the highs that the 802 bring to the table!
  19. The tube amps I have are all from old consoles: Stromberg-Carlson, Grundig, Magnovox, and Packard-Bell. I still have a Grundig console in the living room also. None of which have enough to power the 802, but do very well on any of my Heritage speakers. The 802 need a minimum of 50 watts according to the specs, but in reality, they need a minimum of 100-150. Ideal would be not less than 250 watts. My favorite vintage amp is a Sansui AU7900 that was heavily modded by Paul Hovenga before he opened his shop. It gets pretty loud at about 40% of the volume dial on the 802's. I have driven them very well with an AVR, Sony DA5300ES. The Sony is very impressive on the K-horns, also. My adcom 555ii (modded) does extremely well, also.
  20. Mine will not let the Klipschorns or the 802 leave the house!
  21. Mine were in raw birch, also. That is why I asked who signed them. Mine were the only pair that I have ever seen with rounded over edges. I liked them, but had to sell them later.
  22. This is a truth that can't be understated, I have heard the 802's with some huge mac S.S. mono blocks, in a room that was "treated" and so much information was distorted or colored or missing it was surprising. ... Notes just hung on and were very unnatural to my ears.... what lacked also was the clarity and the presentation of a well implemented system... I have not powered them with anything but SS at this time. I don't think any of my tube amps will come close to powering the 802. They sound very, very good on everything I have pushed them with. I had no intention of adding more speakers to the fold, but the woman of the house loved the looks of the 802. She also loves the way the Klipschorn sound. I probably would have not gotten them, but at the price I paid.... Needless to say I am pretty much a bargain hunter when it comes to buying gear. The center, matching sub, and the 805's will cost me nearly as much as the 802's did. And, I am still getting a heck of a bargain on them! My living room is not treated. I haven't run REW on the space, either. I am out of town, or I would post some pics. The 802 are extremely clear and concise. Very detailed. Very precise.
  23. Hey Im not picky. I will take a solo Belle or LaScala ! My K-horns and Belles are in a rare camel grill cloth. Sorry, but I can't part with them. I had sold the Belles and then traded back for them with my 1989 Klipschorns. The Belles were inspected by one of my best friends from my years in Hope, and the Klipschorns were signed by another friend.
  24. It just jumps out at you. I never noticed it until doing the A/B testing. It is very stark between the two. I love the Klipschorns and will never part with them. The 802 will be joined by a matching center, sub. and 805 Diamonds for the rear.
  25. Yes, they are factory. My first pair (1977), I had the option of flat or routed edges. I was given the opportunity to buy them direct at the plant. Who signed them?
