  1. Hi, IMHO I think that the difference may be 'unheard' and I cast doubt on the demonstration of the technical attributes, unless of course the cable or connectors are rusted or broken. I have tried on various speakers and have not noticed any diff. On last testing my ears, for my age, they are suppose to be super sensitive and (fortunately or unfortunately) I hear like a 24 year old but I don't seem to get the things I remember getting when I was 24! My hearing must be the trade for memory! What may improve the resistance, capacitance or inductance is the interconnects you use or the wiring in the speaker. Cheers
  2. Hi Erik, yeah I am having fun but the wife thinks I'm mad and the kids know I am. Tennis balls is an intersting concept for speakers. I use them underneath the big amp I have and squash balls under my turntable and CD/DVD player. They do cause some interference with boominess and I have found them to be successfull. You may need a half a dozen or so underneath each box but I think the concept deserves a try out.
  3. ...the projector is an INFOCUS and the screen is painted onto the wall and takes up aboot 75% of the rear wall (behind the curtains). It is just like the movies except you can fart without anyone telling you off!
  4. Guys I can tell you that you do not need 5.1 plus in this room! You are THERE! I am a 2 channel freak and with the right speakers 5.1 is an unecessary expense. A big room maybe yes. The Mirage OM6 speakers are unreal in theatre, the room buzzes but just don't have the fullness. The Khorns have that fullness and believe it or not with the AK4, I am getting more front to back than I thought possible with a corner config. Again I think the room assists, but at a price. I need to fix the 85hz to 242hz problem, so I am going back in, wish me luck!
  5. Agree, but no plants. It is a room 'without a life' at the moment. Without all that crap the room, it rings like a bell, but I have some ideas and when i am finished I expect it will look a little different. I'll continue to drag in bits n pieces and get an understanding of accoustic properties. Bye for now
  6. Hi Edwin, I went with Mahogany, didn't have a choice unless I wanted to wait 2 months plus shipping. They don't look too bad at all, I put some pics up here some where in the forum. I read what everyone has said here and I agree with most that after having quite a number of speakers over the years you will love the Khorns over the rest in the heritage series. The La Scala (like the Belle) has not the height (size) nor bottom end and there certainly is a difference between it and its big brother. If you go with the Khorns put 'em in first then fiddle. You never know, you may not need to do much over the anticipating & agonizing with what you could do now. Cheers
  7. Hi Edwin, I guess you could say that everything you stick in your room will be 'room sensitive'. Cyrus, I found to be ultra dynamic and very much 3D in positioning on all planes. I understand they do a lot with psychoacoustics. The latest version of their players have met with mixed reactions but for me, after auditioning many different types, I found they a are great match for my demands with dynamics in a room, hence the KHorns.
  8. Thanks Gents, Yes, my wait 'from Hope to West Australia' was about 7 weeks. PWK must have know I was hanging out for these and maybe sent a bolt or two from above! (He did write me once in response to a Q I had with my Forte's back in '92). I'll be back in due course with some updates and some Q's to help with my room set-up.
  9. Hi Guys, Hope this works, here is a pic or 2 of my new AK4's in the room that is a work in progress.
  10. Great idea Dave97! I must admit from Heresy's to Forte II's, then a stint with Mirage and now back to Klipsch and the Horns sends me into a bit of a spin! Note swapping would help and anybody else's notes also welcomed. Congrats!
  11. Thanks Guys. My camera died at the weekend so when I get one that works I will send some pics. Cheers
  12. Hi All, I have finally received my new AK4 '04 Mahogany Horns. All the way from Hope to Australia's West. People think I am mad, maybe I am but WOW what a punch! I had forgotten how they excite every mode in a room. I'm gonna have to treat the room more than I have currently. I have used some modal calculators but most ignore what a cornder horn is about. I note that the Atlas mid driver is back. How does it compare to the EV? Is the Tweeter still the EV? My kids can't believe these beasts and like any beast I have to tame them in my small 13' x 16' x 8.5' (thereabouts) room. I would welcome any comment or help. Maybe I best talk to an acoustic expert first? One thing I have noticed is that they don't like curtains along the wall where they sit in each corner. Anyhow, I am dusting off all my jazz & rock albums that will now produce the artists right before my eyes! Catch your all later. Cheers.
  13. Hi Artto, I am about to get my new AK4 KHorns, my room is 16.04ft (L) x 13.22ft (W) x 8.59ft (H). With my previous set ups I used CARA and golden ratios but with horns I know it will be a little different. I did have trouble with the room and have added thick felt/foil punctured panels to the side walls (1.2m x 1.2m 2 of these on each 'long' wall). Unfortunately I use the short wall for set up as that is where the screen is for projection. I was running Mirage OM6'S for some time in this set-up and they eventually worked fine. The short wall is covered with a curtain, not thick (left closed for audio and obviously open for screening). The KHorns will sit in the corners of the short wall, they are full corners. The opening (2 glass doors)sit behind the listening position (rear wall)and they are covered by pull down awnings. I would not say the room is dead but it is quiet. Apart from telling me I got the design wrong, boy do I know it! Is there any tips you can give me. Cheers.
  14. Hi Artto, please check my next post
  15. Hi, I'm also in AUS and had La Scala's and Forte's and Heresy and a mate has the Belles. I have purchased new KHorns (arriving soon) as I think the bottom end has greater definition and I have corners. Yes the corners do make a difference if you have the right room to notice. Room treatment is the most important tweak you can do. When you get your room right you will notice A LOT! If your budget can handle it and your room is right go for the KHorn.Cheers!
  16. I had a similar problem with glue coming unstuck in the woofer surrounds on a pair of Forte II's. The dealer did not believe me until I found a tech to prove otherwise. The final response came with a pair of factory reconditioned woofers (the factory knew of certain problems)with a big red R on the back of the magnet. All at no cost as were still under warranty. Maybe a few dealers might have some old stock floating around? As an example,I hit a dealer 2 months ago to see if they could come up with a replacement coil for a 1982 pair of Sound Dynamic horn tweeters. They went looking out back, dusted off a few things and found and old pair (nos). They still charged me a 'new price'(I had sucker written all over my face).
  17. I understand it will take 400 big ones. With the Klipsch I have had over the years, I think your ears would feel it first before the speaker stresses.
  18. New v Used can sometimes be a decision that you will only find the answer in comapring side by side. Take on board what the 'experts' say but in the end it comes down to two things, your budget and your emotional state. My emotional state said buy new but my budget said buy used. I also beleive that some subltle improvements have been made, so what the heck, I went new! The only problem is that I have to wait 2 months!
  19. Is this the AK-4 currently used in the K-Horns?
  20. Fantastic looking in a small space, well done!
  21. Hi, As the room is almost sqaure and the rear doors are behind the short wall, they will be placed in the corners of the short wall. I know that is not ideal and i may need to 'treat' my room as it is a problem rooom. Any suggestions?
  22. Thanks Gary, I had a pair of Heresy's for 20 years, a pair of La Scala's for a year and the K-Horns for about a year. Marriage and shifting house changed a few things but now am looking to expand my horizons. I currently have a pair of Mirage OM6'S (the most 3D speaker I have heard in years-great for AV) but lack the realism any Klipsch brings to the stage. Do you know what crossovers are now being used in the K-Horns?
  23. Thanks Dean, My room is 4m x 5m with corners but I have designed it to open up the rear doors behind me that open up onto a patio area. That should hanlde the bottom end. I guess I will have to make sure I get a sharp central point, I read that some reviewers have problems with positioning. Any experiences?
  24. I am thinking about purchasing a pair of new K-Horns. Are there any major differences to the models that were made in the 80's? I had a pair then and the only pronblem I had was that the 3D imagery was not as good as some other speakers. How would 'new users' rate the front to back imagery today?. My other alternative is to find a great pair of used K-Horns. My dilemma new or used??
