  1. Gary, I've waited a while to give Tom a chance to respond. I'm not trying to speak for him but might be able to answer part of your questions. He brought a DVD of Ben-Hur as well as several other items. We played the opening song (Overture??) and as I recall, he flipped forward to a couple more, deeper into the movie. Regarding dynamics, do you mean running the volume knob up and down? If so, I do not recall him doing that during the passages. I personally feel the Jubilees are less constricting of dynamics. They simply seem to take what ever you throw at them (at any volume) and give it back to you with authority and clarity. Last night wife was making something in kitchen and I was sitting on couch listening to Supertramp's Crime of the Century. It was probably 11:00 pm so was dark and quiet outside. I was laying back listening and all the sudden I kind of thought it was playing on the loud side. It clearly was not playing "LOUD", but it just seemed that I might want to consider turning it down (of course...I didn't [6] ) I was intrigued as to how much power I was using so I lifted my lazy head off the pillow and looked at the meter on my MC-2102. It was PEGGING at .1 watt. Yes, decimal one, as in 1/10th. I know the meters are probably not perfect but it's at least a reference point for me. System sounded fantastic, was clearly above background noise & conversation levels. In fact, easily loud enough to drown out any conversations and make it difficult to hear. Since I was in the room alone... I overlooked that annoyance! [A]
  2. I'm not aware that Dean's ever heard one??? perhaps he has been to Hope? I've got no idea. Regardless...I must say that I really tip my hat to those that have delved into a pair without seeing or auditioning them in person (Ralph, Bob and pending...Rich & Bill). So Dean... have you put an order in or is it contingent on the sell of your Khorns? I will say this... you won't be let down!
  3. Very interesting point about dust being a way for moisture to form. I would have never thought of that angle.
  4. Although Chloe was VERY non approval of me when I just now woke her up... she did indicate to me you do not have anything (yet) to fear from her wrath. We both know however, just how fickle women can be at times so it might serve you well to stay on the straight & narrow. (that last piece of advice was from her) [&]
  5. Oops, my bad... somehow I read Seti to be Coytee... disregard
  6. Nope... I paid $2,700 for them. They were according to Terry (DeWick) "some of the prettiest I've seen" or some paraphrase of that. I verified with him that he had rebuilt them as the seller contended. Terry not only vouched that he had redone them but that they were in fact as nice looking as the seller was contending. I ended up buying them sight/sound unseen. I took them to Hope and most everyone there saw them. I did that in case I ever tried to sell them there would be some independent opinions as to their condition & sound. (as well as to bring them in for a sound demo with the other amps)
  7. I've seen many 30's for mere "handfuls" of cash...however, they were not in fantastic visual shape. I'm not saying they were visually trashed (though some were). So, although the comments might be right on regarding price of "MC-30's" Are we still comparing apples to apples? Wouldn't you pay more for a cosmetically pristine '69 Chevelle than you would a fully functional, 100% mechanically correct rust bucket? Fixing the mechanics is easy...it's the (better condition) bodywork that you're paying the premium for. Maybe over dramatic in my analogy, but I think the point remains? The higher priced amps tend to have much better/prettier chassis on them. At least, that's how I've seen the listings on Ebay.
  8. Not to step on anyones toes but I owned some very pretty 30's in addition to some other amps. They'd been gone through by Terry prior to me getting them. As glorious as they (in fact) are/were, I personally preferred the sound of the SE-OTL amps over them except for the very unfortunate reality that the SE-OTL amps only had 4 wpc available to me. That ended up doing them in but has made me very intrigued to hear their bigger brothers.
  9. Roc... I am not afraid to say that I think that is pretty cool!! [Y]
  10. Thank you for considering sending the tape player Scott. I've taken Chuck's comments above to heart and contacted Jim at Sonic Perfectionist. I sent him the tape on Monday and he said it'll be about four weeks until he'll be able to get to it. In my rush to hurry up & wait, I sent it to him via overnight. [:^)] I realize no matter who might do this... the tape might simply be useless so I'm prepared to not have any positive results. Given that, I can be nothing but plesantly surprised with what ever happens. Perhaps until... I hear my squeaky 9 year old voice...[:#] []

I contemplated trying to buy it "in case" down the road I ever added more plug ugly speakers to my hoard but decided I'll worry about that idea, if & when it arrives. Retail for these is over $1,200 as I understand it although I don't know exact prices. I CAN vouch though... that it's been fun playing around with mine both with the Jubilees AND with my LaScalas. Long story on the LaScala part so don't ask unless you want a book!! [] Standard disclaimers on Ebay...not affiliated & all...
  12. Sounds like you did a fine job!. Does the tooth fairy leave cash or nowdays, a credit card? [] On the side...something I told a nurse. Preface: I'm currently getting allergy shots for those small flying stinging little $$'ards. While getting these shots, I decided I may as well knock out pollen, mold, cats... So, while at the Dr.'s getting my shot, the Nurse prepped my arm and started to count down... "three.... two.... one... STAB (with needle)" I immediatly realized what she did wrong. I was counting down with her and she actually caused me some anxiety which otherwise, wouldn't have been there. She made a comment about all the children they do and how many of them cry. I said I could see why as she was (IMHO) adding to their stress with her countdown. I then told her what she needed to do if she was going to use the countdown was use it to her favor. HUH??? she looked at me??? I said, when you start to count down, the anticipation is when you get to zero, the reicipient is going to feel a pr ick and that will add to their tension. What you need to do is pr ick them BEFORE you get to zero. In other words, count down from three... two...(STAB) one... and it will be over before the child realized it because they're focused on reaching ONE and not between two and one. A week later when I went back, she thanked me. Said she tried that on several kids and one of them actually asked her when and if she was going to give the shot!!! She was too happy to tell the child that she'd already given it and what a champ the kid was... A bit of misdirection can go a long way. [] 2nd Edit... found another place I used pr ick and had to change it to stab [] 3rd edit... sigh... I changed this pr ick, to pr ick!! Ya know, if it was my WIFE calling me a little..... I could understand it, but she'd never call me a little STAB!! []
  13. What the wedgie, did I do? [:^)] (can I say wedgie on a family forum?)
  14. Seems I had happy fingers for you and did a duplicate post! [<)]
  15. Congrats to you... I'd suppose it shall mate up rather nicely with your amp! [G]
  16. I'm going to try to persuade him to accompany me to Indy this summer. I think though, that is either right before or right after their second child is expected so I think he'll be busy doing the 2nd time dad thing. Hmm... maybe he can bring the (expecting) wife WITH him and we'll just make sure we hang around Paul the entire time? []
  17. From the pictures, it looks like a VERY charming place. I'd bet a dime to a dollar my wife would love it. (and how cool would it be if we were there and I could say "OMG Marion...lookie over there, they have Jubilees too!!"
  18. Dang it...I just HATE wedgies that start in the rear and protrude from the front...[*-)]
  19. When I put Al K's ES networks into my Khorns, I blew several fuses too. As I recall, he had a 1.25 fast blow in there??? Since it happned MORE than once (who ME have it up loud??? [:$]) I finally called him. The gist of his answer as I recall was he put 1 1/4 amps in there to help protect things from the younger crowd who don't keep control of the volume. (did he just put the subtle slam on us Paul?) He said I could easily go up to (and here is where I forget the amperage) without any real issues. My guess is 2 1/2?? What I found interesting was, why they were in there in the first place. As stated above, Woofers rarely go out, usually it's the tweeters that die. I had found myself on MORE than one occasion simply jamming away to (loud) music to only discover when I looked around... I only had ONE woofer woofing. I always thought that was a nice testamony to the Khorns that you could blow a woofer and not have it become a glaring issue. Bob...regarding your tweets being able to stand more power than the Klipsch version. Won't that apply to clean power? Meaning, if the amp is clipping, would yours STILL be able to handle say, 10 times more clipped signal??? That statement caused some confusion in my peabrain.
  20. Oh, and not to correct you publically on your first post however,...the wedgie in the LaScalas protrudes out the FRONT, not the rear!! []
  21. Welcome to the forum! Glad to see you got the log in issues ironed out. I'm still aspiring to the day when I can match your Jewel Cubes!! [6]
  22. Tom, I just wanted to say you gave Klipsch & Co, a very nice endorsement there. Those comments don't really go towards me as I'm just the custodian of something Klipsch did. I DO agree with your thoughts though. I think anyone contemplating a purchase of new Heritage should give these badboys some serious consideration.
  23. Rich, you might look at Tom's comments here http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/862848.aspx thread # 863128 (by TBrennan) He was here this past Saturday for around 5 hours. We had a great visit. Evidently, he's been around horns all his life, been involved in horn clubs and in general, forgotten more about this kind of stuff in the last 2 days then I've ever known.
  24. Now THAT helps a great deal. I'm afraid I can rule the Jubilees OUT for you as they'd clearly take care of you for the next fifteen years... []
