  1. I don't know about all the technical stuff like these other guys but I'll agree with you: When I swapped out my 2404's, that was the SINGLE most noticable change I made to the speakers (other change was Al K's ES networks). I really liked what the 2404's did for the Khorns
  2. (Schmooze mode ON) I want my password to be "Amy is the GREATEST", is that ok?? (schmooze mode off ) []
  3. All those names, be as they may...I'd still say that Diana gets the MOST mention, and that's my point regarding using her name []
  4. I'm sure other speakers can/will do it, but I've only had Klipsch as my primary speakers for a long time, so here's my question. When I've been on the phone (away from home with home speakers working) the sound can come through the phone CRYSTAL CLEAR. There are other times when I hear someones speakers through the phone and it sounds like CRAPPPPPPPPPPP. Highly distorted and all. Is the horn speaker part of that equation or was it just a matter of good listening levels when I heard the clean sound and too loud sound to distort the phone on the other? Why did it do it? I've heard it more than once, so it's not a function of bad memory.
  5. Seems to me the most talked about female vocalist discussed here is Diana Krall? There are certainly a couple others but seems to me, she's the one most often referred to. I don't have a lot of experience with lp's/cd's by female artists. Indeed, back in college, an old girlfriend was rooting through my two "Peaches Crates" FULL of LP's, and looking up said "Do you realize you do not have a SINGLE album by a female singer??" She was right and I wasn't really aware of it until then. So, my experience with female singers, seems to be about as deep as radio listening and that leads me to my basic curiosity. Seems to me there are a number of female singers that can really sing. I'm not saying I LIKE them but I'm wondering why they don't ever seem to get mentioned. Or, perhaps, am I wrong in my understanding of their talent? Perhaps they're too mainstream/commercial?? Barbara Streisand: Isn't she 'The Voice"? (I don't like her btw [+o(]). I've NEVER heard her mentioned here, yet if she's "the Voice", shouldn't she be worth a listen? Celine Deion: The girl has some pipes. Some of her stuff I like, some I don't. Is she just to commercial? Too "pop"? Heart: Couple of old Rock & Rollers. I like some of their stuff, can pass on some (Have couple cd's including Alive in Seattle) ABBA: I always loved their voices & harmony, never heard them mentioned here, same thing...?? too commercial? Too old of recordings, to have any that are "high quality"?? Ironically, I listed those specific in the reverse order in which I really would care to listen to them [] Why is it Diana Krall gets 85% of the mention here? Her looks? (not so bad [] ) Is her voice just THAT much better than the others? Is it that she plays piano? How about her style of songs, verses the rock/roll songs? (not that Barbara is rock roll [] ) BTW, if your favorite female singer wasn't mentioned, it wasn't out of malace. I DO think DK gets the lions share of comments here and I just don't remember who comes in second/third [:$]
  6. Ralph had a similar situation (if not the same??, but I'm not sure of all the details) Anyways, I think Amy was emailed and was able to get him fixed up. you might try that (emailing her) if you want to try to get your 'old self' back. []
  7. That item you posted, has a circle on the bottom page of it. When I was a kid, I could draw things like that with my Spira-gyra too!! Now, in seriousness, what do the various 'circles' (if I may call them that) mean? How does one interpret what is being seen? Did you make that with the DELUXE Spyro-Gyra set? []
  8. Ok, that does it... Chloe has been RELEASED! My guess is you have about a 4 day head start before she'll make it down there for her rendezvous! Be forewarned that she'll be relentless. She's pretty vicious too! [Z].....................................[&]
  9. Interesting that you asked that because it made me realize something. First off, my 'datapoint' is probably useless [] I guess you'll toss out the outlayers though. I've been using the 4 ohm top on my MC-2102. I talked to Roy and although the LF cabinet says 1200 watts max & 8 ohms, he said I could use either and be just as well at 4 ohms. Now, here's where I just realized my stupidity... the amp I'm using on my LF cabinets, doesn't have an ohm choice. I'm using the 4 ohm tap on the HF horn (as well for my LaScala when I plumb it in downstairs, I remove one Jub tweet and swap to Las) I ought to go try the 8 ohm on the HF horns instead of the 4 Ohms. Just curious, what difference might I expect? I feel stupid now [:#]
  10. And Jay, we'll need YOUR shipping address too (you can send to me at my "junk" email at "punk at bellsouth.net" ) If you want me to wait & send to you during a school break, summer recess... tis ok by me as they're just sitting around gathering dust and they can sit for 2 days, or 2 more years for all I care. I say that just in case you don't want a bunch of boxes sent to you while at school, just to make you carry that much more "stuff" home. []
  11. Larry, a K55 (of any variety as far as I know) would work just fine for me. send me an email with how much & where to send check. My mailing address is: Equity Financial Group 10141 Jackson Oaks Way, Suite 102 Knxoville, TN 37922 You don't need to bother with my name or anything as all mail/packages get reviewed by me before anything else happens to them. []
  12. If you mean access is under the horn and the cabinet is of a traditional build (non split), that would be AWFULLY hard to get into I'd think!!! Yeesh. There's always a sawzall!! Question: Are you just curious about doing this or is there a sound issue that is making you want to check? I thought they used some kind of paper surround (cloth??) and unlike the rubber type, it is fairly immune to simply "wearing out"?
  13. Knowing how fast/hard a tree can light up on fire, I prefer a fake one (actually, I'd be happy with NO tree []) In deference to the wife however, we not only have a real tree but we walked out on the farm (where we live), she picked it out and I cut it down, dragged it back & slung it up. Now, I can hardly wait to take it down & flick my bick under it [A]
  14. MAS, MAS, MAS... I'm going to reread this again. I then, am going to go have my cup of coffee and read it AGAIN. If it is as greek the next time i read it, I'm going to send my lovely little Chloe down your way to kick your hiney! []
  15. So, if I understand you right, (presuming you were seriously considering a pair), based on your presumptions above, you'd prefer to pay MORE for a speaker with an ostensibly "lessor" horn than the K402 but overall prettier finish when you could get better performance for under $7,000 with a few "visual warts" and have the "kit" finished as you please? (I presume you'd not consider paying the 20K just so you know I'm not suggesting you are saying that) Not directed to you Parrot, but what I find very interesting in all this chat about the K402 is this: My understanding is the K-402 is the best match for this system in a home application (correct me if I'm wrong Roy!!??) As such, any other horn would be a compromise of something. For those who aren't taking to the K-402, you prefer something different which is fine. no one begrudges that logic, "however", isn't that similar to buying a Ferrari and sticking a Volkswagen engine in it? Seems to me if you're going to go to the extent of getting a Ferrari, you may as well configure it so its performance is balanced? Ralph is the dude!! 1st person in Europe to buy these! Bought them sight (other than pictures) unseen and never auditioned!! How's THAT for some kahunas!! Merry X-mas to everyone, including my K-402's [<)]
  16. lol, not a bit, Boy Wonder []. Actually, since I'm personally unaware if anyone has EVER asked Roy those questions (myself included) I thought I'd ask "the obvious" for the benefit of folks like yourself or others who may someday aspire to own your own personal bat cave and wonder what some of the options (currently) are. [] I might add, I've not read any further below your post I'm responding to, so it's possible Roy has addressed my questions.
  17. You calling me verbose? [] You've mentioned the Jubilees can be veneered there at the factory. What are the current choices someone could have and if you're able to say, what is the approximate upcharge for the veneer? Would that also include the side grill covers? If not, approx how much for them? Now, you'd find that your server would be a lot faster if you upgraded to at least 56K dialup [6]
  18. *but not before hearing the Jubilee powered by amps and a preamp I am familiar with playing MY records on MY turntable. And that's not really possible, is it? * lol, do you have Khorns? did you audition THEM the same way? In your house, your electronics, PRIOR to purchase? If you DO have Khorns, and the Jubilees were designed to replace/improve them, wouldn't it be 80% reasonable that you'd like the Jubilees, other issues not withstanding? First we have they're ugly so we can't buy any, now if we could get past ugly, we have to audition them in our home, with our electronics, with our turntable?? lol hmm... is the line of objection moving? You could bring your TT to my house or take it to Hope?? [] I really DO find these "objections" very very interesting
  19. Ok, so let's take the one with PWK. As I understand it, the pricepoint for that version was going to be about (MSRP) $15,000. Isn't it reasonable that one could buy it UNFINSIHED for say $7,000 and pay someone $5,000 to put a fancy veneer on it and STILL be money ahead? I'd presume you could actually get the work done for less than 5K too, as well as buy it less than the MSRP. So, MSRP is say $12,000, you STILL have the same 5K to "play with" to finish it to your own liking. So, again, let's be "SPECIFIC", is it the LF you 'don't like', or the K402? I don't buy into the logic that people would only buy it if it were "pretty". THEN, they'd be 'complaining' that though pretty, it's costing over 10K (or what ever the street price is out the door). I look at it like this, you can buy the naked chassis if you want, and put the finish you WANT on it. You could probably do it CHEAPER than the factory given the two price points? Am I wrong?? If so, how/where? If not, then we need more details []
  20. I'm intrigued about something... For those who think the Jubilee is anywhere between "unattractive, to aggressively ugly", just what is it that you find so offensive? Can you articulate your specific angst? Is it as simple as the color? (that can be changed, so that can't be it??) How about over all shape? (would LaScala fall in same catagory?, how about Khorn, after all, they're both designed for the corner?) Perhaps the side "wings" as I call them, on the LF cabinet? The K402 horn? If it's the 402 horn, if you could get a DIFFERENT horn, would that make all those demons go away? If it is the 402 horn, then you'd be HAPPY to have the LF horn section in your living room? What if the 402 was green, white or some other color? I'm not trying to pick any kind of fights or sound like I'm being ugly, I'm really intrigued on exactly what it is, that might turn someone off. Then, I'm wondering if that factor can be fixed. ok, "Jubilee is butt ugly" dudes... what is it that you'd have to see changed before you would accept a pair as a GIFT??!!! []
  21. Don't forget, you CAN also order them unfinished and put your own veneer on them, or paint them red/white/blue if you want, so the argument that they're butt ugly only holds SOME water and in my opinion, not a whole lot [] I know that won't do much to hide the reality of that teeny tiny horn on top [A]. I still contend that if someone can make do with a Khorn in their living room (size wise) than the Jubilee isn't really any more intimidating, even WITH the K-402. You are probably 85% the way there already (with the Khorns), why not go all out & do it right! I've been toying around with the idea of finding a wood working guy, maybe sand down/veneer the front panel. make some grills for the side vents and in the same matching (solid) wood, have a frame made that would fit around the face of the 402 horn. Then attach some grill cloth to the frame. Not so sure how that would look as I'm NOT a very artistic kinda person. It is something I've bantered about. I'll admit that my wife doesn't much care for them but she tolerates them for me. I'd not mind if I could pretty them up. If I can't, it won't bother me in the least. Good thing for me I had my LaScalas and EV's (only slightly smaller than LaScalas) prior to meeting her. []
  22. If memory serves me, Harold Wright's name was on my LaScala stickers also. Mine were made in 1979. (I know he probably checked more than one pair) []
  23. Have you heard those SE-OTL's at all? phenominal at low levels and when bridged at 4 wpc, will go up the scale a bit further. I still can't get those things outta my head.
