  1. I've had this in/out of my car a couple of times (packaged to ship) and I'm finally over moving it around [] I'll post several pictures of it but first I want to point out some things. First, the speaker is bone stock and works great. The "bad" (for sake of full disclosure) The black has rubbed off in various spots (see pic #10 & 11) Unfortunately, I didn't really notice the after pictures of the ends being vague until AFTER I boxed it up. I'm sorry for that. Ok, the wife is the artistic type and she went over the worn areas with what I belive was a sharpie... then she had what I thought to be a hair brained idea... she asked for my black shoe polish!!!??? Yes, went over the entire speaker with black shoe polish and I gotta say, the sucker looked brand new! Close inspection of the worn areas WILL still show the wear spot underneith the polish and not be "black" like the rest of the speaker but when it's sitting on your shelf, you'll never notice (at least I woudn't) The front grill of the speaker has something along the lower edge. I've said before (a bit tongue in cheek) that it looks like cake batter from a food fight. Seems someone didn't like considering a speaker that had cake batter on it. Well, so much for my attempt at humor. Frankly, I don't know WHAT it is nor how long it's been there. I just noticed it when I pulled these out of storage a year ago and feel it should be mentioned. The lady bug seen on the open face of the speaker should no longer be there. In the fall weather, we get ba-zillions of ladybugs inside the house. Yes, I said ba-zillions. It's unreal how many get in. I'll post all pics I have of the speaker. Price wise, I'm hoping to get someone's attention at $500 before shipping. Since it's already boxed up (see pics) there should be no packing expenses. No feelings hurt by me if no interst is shown... I might then put it onto ebay & see what happens, just wanted to mention my intent here first. Seems I might (hopefully) have another toy to pay for.
  2. Although they sound "delicious", I can't say that my 4 wpc (bridged) SE-OTL's could make a souffle flap. Sometimes it's just plain fun as 'heck' to have a fire breathing 455, 396, 427 cubic inch engine sitting in front of you. Other times, a 4 cylinder Honda is just fine & dandy.
  3. Ok, Im at work now so perhaps I can elaborate a bit more. (I can elaborate a bit more now that Im at work rather than at home??? Please dont ask!!!) <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Anyways, I dont necessarily want a 1,000 watt amp. I dont necessarily want a 50 watt amp. My understanding is a SS amp will allow much better punch in the bass. Daddy Dee, I DO have a 60 wpc Jolida tube amp that Im looking to sell. I dont want it for a couple reasons... first, its an integrated and I want to consolidate everything through a single knob (Peach). Second, its volume control has some noise in it when rotating and that drives me nuts (now that Ive experienced the quality of the Peachs controls). Besides, I still dont sense that pants flapping with the Jolida that I recall having with the Yamaha mated with the LaScalas. JulieHeartKlipsch... You cannot get imaging, period, with your speakers inside and you outside! I fear youve busted me!. Although I stand by all my comments, I of course would still listen to this while inside. As for being outside, I live in a log house with 6 thick logs. Ive been working outside (windows closed) and STILL been able to marvel at how nice it sounds even through the logs. I guess my windows make fantastic speakers as they transmit the sound from the room to the outdoors J Regarding the kidding on snapping my pants... I can only go back to my LaScalas when mated with a 120 wpc SS. They would literally pound you in the chest. The same effect was auditioned by me at a dealers (decades ago) but it was even more exciting because it really seemed to even vibrate the clothes on my body, hence my comment. Beyond all that, it was just a phrase to illustrate my point. Im looking to have my cake and eat it too. If 100 wpc fills my bill, Im happy... if its 300, Im happy. I lived 25 years in ignorance using (I now realize) with a hissy Yamaha matched with my LaScalas. Now that Ive finally experienced the sound of tubes and realize there are SS amps out there much better than my old Yamaha, I would rather take suggestions & guidelines as to which brands/models to research instead of repeating the mistake I made years ago. Im VERY glad this hasnt turned into a pissing contest yet. I hope it stays this way. Charles... although my wife will hate me... you caught my ear... what else you have to say?
  4. Tom (However, let me ask an innocent question: Why in the heck would you need 200 watts of power with a speaker that is so efficient? ) Clearly no one needs that... just like no one needs 455 cubic inches in front of them while driving... then again, with judicial use of the throttle... it's nice to have that 455 in front of them "sometimes" [6] I'm moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee than happy with the sound of the SE-OTL's, however, there are times when it's not enough. I'm willing to explore all comers. I use to use a 120 x 2 Yamaha receiver with my Lascalas. That would probably be sufficient overkill as well. At this level of my research, I'm starting wide before I narrow down to specific.
  5. I've got the low power part of the equation taken care of (SE-OTL). (Sounds great, less filling). I've got a niles switchbox so I want to get a second amp. I want the second amp for those "I'm working outside & want to hear it through the walls moments" I don't care the brand... I just want it to match up nicely with the Peach and Khorns. I want it to be 100 or 200 (or even more... ) per channel. My wish list: 1. 200 watts (or up to Khorn max) 2. Match perfectly with Peach 3. Match perfectly with Khorns 4. Capable of snapping my pants with bass response 5. Good imaging & all that good stuff 6. Dead quiet Don't care if it's McIntosh, or NoIntosh (poor attempt at humor) I don't want to start a war or a pissing contest so pleaseeeeeeeee... you flea guys... I am a beliver and I have one... you horsepower guys... I HAD one and want to get another one. Let's all work together []
  6. Thanks Danny. Had I been able to get more, I would not have felt 'right'. Besides, I DID add one single scratch to them (oops). That all said, if you ever want to get rid of your crappy speakers, I have (or will MAKE) some crappy corners for them and might plug them into my crappy amp(s). [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] [6] I might even pay some crappy dollars for them... after all, they ARE used right? []
  7. You should try some Sovtek 2a3's in the Wrights if you havent already Bob, he has a pair of them included in the package.
  8. Hmm ... between Larry, Danny & myself, I'm not sure who has the cutest dog... I might be biased. Mine (Otis) was found after the wife had a dream "Richard... I dreamed we got a new dog and his name was Otis" We found him at the shelter and he ended up with Parvo (hence the picture). He survived Parvo and last winter, came down with Blasto Mycosis... He survivied blasto and since then, we've received another dog (puppy dumped off by some idiot on side of road) Chloe & Otis are now inseperable (Chloe is an American Eskimo and frisky as all get out) We're dog rich
  9. [:$] Seems I've caused a racus. Larry... if I knew you'd like them so much, they'd been $4,000 more Danny, ... well... had I known that... I might have mandated a swap with one of your OTHER prized posessions... (insert sneaky slimey blackmail laugh here) BUT... seems I might have my hiney saved by Daddy Dee...It was HIS crappy SE-OTL's that I got stuck with [] I just kept finding myself going back to those as did the wife. I think we can blame this whole fiasco on him? (tis my story & I'm sticking with it) PS: I just ended up borrowing them from Danny as I gave them to Larry for the same $$ I had in them.
  10. I always liked looking down the throat of my LaScalas over the 25 years of ownership. Since my Khorns have a cover on them... I can't say that about them. Not the same speaker but I thought perhaps the comparison might be similar. Seems to me, the bottom line is... what ever sounds better to YOU!!!
  11. I'm sort of in same boat as far as my plans go. I currently have pair of Khorns & pair of LaScalas. What I'm intending on doing is making the Khorns my rear...but ALSO use them for 2 channel. I bought a Peach so I can do that (it has a HT pass through). Just my .02
  12. I only uploaded this last week & this is my first post since. This is Otis, our Parvo survivor...our Blasto Mycosis survivor. Long story short, we had 2 dogs murdered by a hunter 2 years ago. Crushed us. Several months later, wife said "Richard, I had a dream last night that we had a puppy and his name was Otis". The search for Otis was soon to begin. She took a week vacation & was sick in bed entire week. I'd gone to shelter to see what was there. I told her I'd love what ever she picked. She went in on Wednesday (still feeling ill) and found Otis. Took him to Vet on Thursday for his shots. Friday called me at work about Otis. He was not eating, drinking, seemed to be having diahreah... I said not to worry...after all, he JUST went to vet, "what could be wrong". Well, she didn't listen & took him BACK to vet. He was diagnosed with parvo virus (a VERY deadly & disgusting illness for a puppy to have if you don't know about it) Anyways, one week and $1,200 later, he pulled through (no cure for parvo, you either make it or you don't, they only treat the symptoms). Had she not gone to shelter, had she listened to me, had she not taken that week off, blah blah blah... Otis would have probably either been put down or simply died. We visited him twice a day (vet is 15 miles away). A year later, he had this coughing & wheezing. MUCH like someone with a nasty case of emphazima. Back to vet. Long story short, he had blasto mycosis. Sort of a fungus disease in his lungs. ALSO very deadly but this (unlike parvo) WAS treatable. Interestingly, when the vet came out to give me the prognosis, he seemed a bit defensive when he told me the treatments. "60 days of treatment... one pill per day, each pill is $5.00" I laughed. I told him we'd spent $1,200 for one WEEK on parvo, so spending $300 for 60 days of treatment was a bargain! Today, Otis is fine & dandy. We have another dog too (Chloe) that some idiot dumped our way. Chloe & Otis get along like cinnamon on toast so who ever the idiot was that dumped Chloe off as a puppy, really did us a favor. She's just as special as Otis. And THAT... is the rest of the story.
  13. Went to Ohio with my dad over the weekend. He wanted to see the Ohio State / Miami (of Ohio) game. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Correction: What he WANTED to see was the Ohio State band at halftime. Long story short, (we went to Cincinnati, Findlay, Bluffton, BACK to Findlay then on to Columbus on Friday) they had the Alumni band there this weekend. As I understand it, Ohio State marching band is about 240 members. Its 100% brass & drums. The Alumni band was over 600 members. We went to St. Johns arena before the game to watch their warm up show. ALSO included in the same arena was Miamis band, which is about 250 members. For anyone whos heard these marching bands you know they can tear it up. If youve heard them inside a basketball arena, its even louder (even if the acoustics arent fantastic) The main band played some pieces, and then the Alumni band kicked in. Just imagine going from a 5 speaker Heresy (no sub) surround system, to an ALL K-horn 5.1 surround system WITH sub. There was a DEFINATE kick in the pants when the Alumni band kicked in. Where the main band might have had say 4 of those LARGE bass drums the Alumni band had perhaps 12 (didnt count). There was a clear authority in the sound when they played over the regular band. The regular band is no slouch either. The youngest member was 23 and the oldest member was 90. Miamis band played a bit too although I dont think they had ALL the bands playing (unless they did it for Star Spangled Banner). It was a great father/son trip. Stopped off to see some of his older cousins in Findlay and delivered to them, some ice cream we brought up from Cincinnati (www.graeters.com). Dad/myself both went to Miami so we were a bit torn on who we wanted to win. We always root for Ohio State now we were forced to just sit & be mum, accepting the inevitable thrashing that we felt would come. To add the final (indignity?), I needed to get a hat to help cover my head in the glaring sun. There were of course, NO Miami hats to be found so I was forced to get an Ohio State hat. Oh, and to end it all, for those who know about the Script Ohio they did FOUR simultaneous script Ohios on the field. The Alumni band did the main front/back covering most of the field while the current band split in two and did them facing each end zone. They dotted all four I's. For someone who drove from South Carolina & Tennessee to JUST see the halftime show, we lucked out and saw a MOST memorable halftime show. Yes, when the half was over (Miami losing 20/zip) we hit the road and headed back to Knoxville. Both of us were worn out (drove up Friday and got home late Saturday night)., both were smiling. sidenote: Something is goofy here with my fonts and the fonts in the title. Apologies if it's too large/small...I can't tell yet until I post it.
  14. Ditto on above concerns... Do I count my three Academies as one pair, 1 1/2 pair or round up to three? []
  15. Hi Amy, I sent you a pm this morning but don't know if I did it right. Somehow it says it's been viewed 3 times and by irony...I've checked 3 times to see if you saw it. Me thinks I sent it to myself [:$]
