  1. Phase Linear 400..........how bout it Duke?
  2. I got these from Bob but they are Klipsch K-33s.
  3. Pre cut MDF with biscuit cuts in the joints. The pieces could be veneered or painted. I was going to do them in black laquer. Also I was going to build a top section housing a 511b horn. The tweeter would be installed in a seperate small box that would sit on top of mid range section.
  4. I was going to build a pair of modified LaScalas for another forum member but the project was ditched because he wasn't able to sell his present speakers. The idea for the new design was to have a top horn section seperated from the bass bin. The bass bin was to have 1'' top, bottom and sides like the new Klipsch LaScalas. So what I've got here is all the parts for the bottom ready for assembly.
  5. I've got several items for sale that I thought I'd list here before going to e-bay with them. I can post pictures of any or all of this stuff. 1 Flat kit for a pair of LaScala style bass bins. $150.00 2 Assembled K-horn bass bins from Speaker Lab plans. $500.00 3 Two barely used Atlas PD-5VH drivers. $250.00 4 Two Altec 511-b horns. $175.00 5 Two Altec 811-b horns.$125.00 6 Two EV st-350 tweeters new. $150.00 7 Two K-33 woofers new in boxes. $175.00 8 Carver C-1 pre-amp excellent condition. $150.00 9 Phase Linear 400 amp excellent condition. $325.00 All of these items can be shipped at buyers expense or can be picked up in Wilmington NC.
  6. We should have found a way to hang on to Steve Hutchinson. Look at the job he did for the Vikings last night.
  7. Craig I'm not quite understanding what you're saying. How does creating a void behind the cabinets between the speakers affect the sound coming out of the front of the speakers? One thing I'm thinking about doing though is cutting the cabinets down 3 to 4 inches on the ends so that the speakers can be toed in. Don
  8. Coytee, Chuck's (Tarheel) been out of town the past couple of days but says he'll post tomorrow morning when he gets back to the office. In the meantime I'll be glad to answer any questions concerning horns, drivers ect. Don
  9. Some songs, some artists, it's a real mix. Correct me if I'm wrong. In no particular order; there was John Lee Hooker, BB King, Dr John, Mighty Joe Young, Seigel-Schwall Band, the North Mississippi All Stars and many many more. Some songs included; Sally Mae, Horseshoe, I think it was the wine, Need a friend, love letters straight from the heart, devil in your eyes and many many more. Luther, You got it man. Love Letters Straight From the Heart is by Boz Scaggs. It's my wife's new favorite song. She makes me dance with her every time I play it. (She doesn't have to try too hard.) I've got eight 10" reels of assorted blues recorded now. These tapes would be my idea for a format for a blues FM station. Sadly, we don"t have one in the area.
  10. Travis, I got your tape this afternoon and played most of the first side this evening. Everything sounds great so far.
  11. All spyders are a bonus. They come free of charge.
  12. Chuck's music room. By the way Luther that's your tape on the right side reel to reel.
  13. Last year I built Chuck (Tarheel) a pair of LaScala clones for his music room that we added to the back of his house. They are pretty much standard LaScala cabinents except for a few minor alterations. They are constructed from 3/4 " birch veneer MDF. The bass bins house Altec 416 woofers. The mid-range horns are K-400 metal horns. The mid-range drivers are K-55's and the tweeters are K-77's. The crossovers came from Bob Crites. Lately Chuck has been listening to my corner horns which have Altec 511 mid-range horns and he's decided that he likes the way they sound and asked me if I could build him a pair of modified LaScalas with 511 horns for the mid-range and use some some EV ST-350's for tweeters. Chuck asked me to post some pictures of his LaScalas and to see if anyone would be interested in buying them. Otherwise, he could probably just part them out. The first picture is the left speaker.
  14. I'm not familiar with the MC 206. I bought a C-26 preamp with broken glass a couple of years ago and it was pretty easy to fix. I ordered the glass from McIntosh for about 115 bucks. To install the glass all I had to do was remove all the knobs and the two end pieces that hold the glass in place. The old glass will come right off. The new glass slides back on. Screw the knobs and the side pieces back on and you're good to go.
  15. Yeah right, I'm going record a high school band and send it to somebody half way across the country. I bet that would be just thrilling to listen to. Both Tarheel and I have done some live recording. His tape turned out a lot better than the one I did of a local blues band we know playing in a bar. I don't think anybody's interested in listening to that. I wish you would do some cow recording. Maybe you could make me a tape of a cow farting.
  16. You guys might not like Bob's singing but I know one thing for sure. I never want hear Tony Bennent or Pavarotti covering All Along The Watchtower or Tangled Up In Blue.
  17. Here's a heads-up for anybody out there who want's to get back into reel to reels. E-bay item # 190021663734.The auction is for two tape decks that appear to be in great shape. These are the big 101/2'' glass ferrite head models.from Akai . The high bid is 600.00 with about an hour left.
  18. The finished product. The template was gently pried away from motor board. The 3/4'' brads remain in the template. You just clip off the end of the brad that sticks out of the template and file it down flush. The template is ready use again.
  19. Remove the rest of the material from the hole making sure the bearing on the bit makes contact with the template all the way around.
  20. Mount a 1/2'' edge triming bit with top bearing in the router. Adjust the router base so that only the bearing comes in contact with the template.
  21. Next, drill a hole large enough to drop a jigsaw blade through and rough cut a hole in the motor board leaving 1/8'' to 1/4'' of material away from the edge of the template.
  22. Attatch the template to the motor board blank with a couple of 3/4'' brads.
