  1. My friends' parents house in Piney Point flooded, 10" of water in garage. Village police had to come and carry them out and there are at.my friends at Gessner and I10, where they are dry. They have to continue to release water into Buffalo Bayou so the levy (?) doesn't break and flood whole town. Criminal Courthouse is under 10' of water.
  2. Sun is out and a beautiful day in NW Austin.
  3. It's a big giant mess, just aweful. No Comm, everything ripped apart.
  4. Thought and prayers here as well.
  5. Well I'm a pilot, it that is what your asking.
  6. Fly. Waiting for Airport manager to give me a thumbs up. All of their weather instruments ripped away. No cell service there yet. So rearrangements are slow with SatPhone, etc.
  7. Heading to Rockport this morning.
  8. Yeah me too. The main thing here, as always, is to stay away from low water crossings. Travis
  9. Nothing like we had back in spring of, what was it 2015? But still watching closely.
  10. It did. He had about a dozen people he said, cooked up sausage from Smittys, etc. He is high and dry where he is at.
  11. About the same here but 6" of rain since Friday
  12. The upgrade is awesome @Chad . Thank you so much. I don't know if this is related at all but thought I would mention it. I have a 16 x 9 screen on my laptop, and normally the forums automatically fills the screen. Starting a day or two ago it went to a square format, with large borders on either side. After the updrade, it had gone to stretching it out automatically again. Not sure if that was because of something I inadvertently hit in some unknown "view button" or if the upgrade took care of it. Thank you for all of your hard work Chad. Travis
  13. I see that CC is on a boil water alert.
  14. My Aunt and Uncle are in Rockport but came up to Austin on Thursday, we are trying to figure out if we should take then back tomorrow or Monday to get them situated. He is a retired EE and has house wired up to big generator to run fridge, microwave and AC. May fly them back down to get a birds eye view of traffic and logistics first. Luther is on NE side of SA I think they may still get pounded. He is high and dry but wind may wreak some havoc with trees and power.
  15. I was going to talk to a couple of guys at HQ in the next couple of weeks to see about the long range planning.
  16. Those are awesome!!!! Did you get shadow bands there? Travis
  17. Awesome, awesome Bruce. Did you get shadow bands there? We had intense shadow bands pre-eclipse which is another wild experience in itself. Travis
  18. Yes indeed. As I mentioned back on July 25th: "I will be at an undisclosed location in the Northwest. Matt at Klipsch has arranged an even bigger event for 2024, the Great EKLIPSCH. It will commemorate the 7th Anniversary of the Klipsch Museum of Audio History. There will be a total EKLIPSCH over the Museum in Hope AND he Klipsch HQ in Indy. The duration will be twice as long as the one this year." The max duration of totality in the Indy area will be south of the city (Providence, Whiteland, Boggstown, Fairland, Morristown) which will have 4:01 of totality. I am hoping I will be in Indianapolis at the Klipsch Headquarters helping with a major fundraising event for the Museum and that you are there with me. I want to build a wall of Klipsch speakers and blast DSOM up until 30 seconds before totality. The length of totality at Klipsch HQ will be 3:30 and will start 18 minutes after the eclipse hits Hope. I want to stream the event from Museum up to Indy, and from Klipsch down to the Museum in Hope. Hoping to get Klipsch to make up a bunch of eKlipsch solar viewing glasses etc. Part of the Mission and Vision of the Museum is STEM and that Standing Committee is headed up by @Chief bonehead so it will fit right in. Travis
  19. I have quit trying to express it. Words fail me. I can certainly see why there are people who chase these all over the world. Travis
  20. That is probably going to be a o.k. 12, 13 and 14 are for high-current plasma welding and are not typically suitable for OA welding. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety "Viewing with Protection -- Experts suggests that one widely available filter for safe solar viewing is welders glass of sufficiently high number. The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder's helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter's shade number. If it's less than 12 (and it probably is), don't even think about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 14 filter — but Shade 13 filters are uncommon and can be hard to find. "
  21. We were in Wyoming, 2 mins 30 secs of totality. We had a documented (EDIT, typo) 15 degree drop in temprature. We were fortunate enough to also have shadow bands before and after totality which we were able to capture on a white sheet with video. The hundreds of acres of sunflowers we saw before the eclipse were following the sun as they normally do, after the eclipse they were all facing east, fooled into thinking the sun had set. You could look in any direction during totality and it looked just aftet sunset. Without a doubt the most spectacular natural event I have ever seen. Awe-struck doesn't even come close. Many much more able to describe it than I still come up short. Photos don't do it, videos don't do it; a total eclipse of the sun is just something you have to experience in person one time.
  22. Shoot. https://www.google.com/amp/amp.newsobserver.com/news/local/article168553272.html But as you said, spectacular just the same.
  23. That's not a total eclipse, it's an annular. If that photo was taken in North Carolina it would be from 1984. Impressive amd inspirational nonetheless.
  24. Hopefully they were at least 12, preferably 13, or you did some damage.
  25. Never heard anyone who saw a total eclipse describe it as "meh" before. Where were you when you saw it?
