  1. Shinerman, I am really glad to hear that you are enjoying those KHorns. It was really tough to let them go, but I am glad they went to a forum member and I am glad to know that someone is going to get a lot of enjoyment out of them. How is your new listening/HT room coming along? I can't wait to see photos of those subs you no longer need with roses planted in them[] Travis
  2. Sorry James, Operator error. I normally shoot things are know are going to go on the forum at 640 x 480 but I was one off on my size selection so I thing these are 1600 by 1200. I sent a reply to our resident phot expert asking him to respost how to resize with the software that comes with Windows so I can shrink them. Travis
  3. Michael, The KOB is stereo and was manuf in 1963 so it is 4 track, and it is high speed 7.5 IPS. The reel is 7" The two track consumer prerecorded ended in about 58 or '59. Those are incredible sounding tapes by the way. The head and tape technology in the early 60's was so much improved that the high speed 4 tracks had better S/N and freq. response then the 2 track tapes of the 50's and that was the reason for the switch. EDIT: I FIGURED IT OUT AND RESIZED TO 640 X 480, even a blind pig can find an acorn once in awhile. PHOTO SIZE: Michael, you recently posted how to reduce the size on photos, my photo editor does not allow resizing without paying for the full version of it. I thought you posted something about microsoft having a free download, or a size function as part of the MS picture viewer. Can you tell me what I need to do to shrink my photos and what size I need to select from the size options? I got my first photo size compliant. I thought that they were small enough, I was selecting the small size which is 640 x 480 but it looks like I was one off so they are 1600 x 1200. Is 640 by 480 small enough to not have to resize? 4. Scott, That is great on the Tandberg!!!!!! You can get in the tape exchange for round 2 which will be starting up in about a month. Which model did you get? As you know, it is one of my favorite sounding decks. I don't think there is a better sounding reproducing deck out there. I am trying to remember, is this one from the friend of yours that wasn't willing to let it go? Travis
  5. Scott, I collect them, I'm up to about 300, I am trying to get every one of the Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums that were available in prerecorded R2R. Miles Davis, like ******* Brew and KOB go sealed for $200 to $300, that is sealed on the outside. In Mint- condition they will go 100 to 150. However, like with anything on ebay, it just depends on how you have bidding. A KOB recently sold for about $100 that was in terrible condition that belonged to a public library. I have never seen one where the box was opened but the inside sealed bag was unopened. It is unheard of. I paid about 120.00 for it, and if it was listed properly on Ebay it would probably fetch $150 to 175. The price of tapes is going up fast, they are not the big secret they used to be. A still sealed Love-Forever Changes (which is in the Top 500 list) went for some big money recently, I was outbid at 250 and it went for somethig slightly over that. However, an open box of Forever Changes that was in good condition went for close to 200. There does not seem to be the big premium there is with still sealed in R2R that there is in lp's. The OP I just simply stole on ebay. No one was paying attention or the Jazz guys already had it. It usually sells for $35 in good shape, might get 50 sealed, so not a lot of premium there either. So I would say money is not really the issue on it, there is some premium, but not enough, at this point, to hold back simply because it is worth a little more. I just got them on Thursday and Friday and had them in line with about 5 or 6 others that came in and I thought, am I really going to open these up? So far, the strong consensus is to open em and let 'er rip, that and the last choice where the question was forgotten. Travis
  6. I saw that that some people were putting up polls, and also asking for advice about things as which speakers to trade in. I have been staring at these two still sealed classics, especially the Mile Davis, and wondering if I should open them up and play them. I am dying to know if the Miles Davis is at regular or high speed, should be normal speed because the cutting lathe was the thing that was spining too fast on the original lps. The box has been opened but the tape is still sealed in the original plastic package, never opened, the Oscar Peterson is still compleately sealed. Anyhow, I will go with whatever gets the most votes. [poll]
  7. We can do it earlier if you want, I just always heard to be sucsessful you have to want to quit, pick a quit date, tell as many people as possible you are quiting, and then do it. I figure that it gives me three days to be able to relax and get away for 3 days. I agree, if you are going to be around ETOH or other smokers it is not going to be a good idea. I plan to hang alone with my wife and try and give updates on how I am doing, and hopefuly see that others are doing well. Travis
  8. Lisa, We are quiting Friday, Midnight, before Memorial Day weekend, ARE YOU IN? I have to get a copy of that book, some friends of mine said it was a big help when they quit last year. The author is French correct? Hopefully his advice is to replace nicotine with mass quantaties of fine red bordeaux, conganc, and port. Travis
  9. How are those Khorns sounding? Turned the subs into planters yet? Travis
  10. Those are great prices, if you don't get any takers on here, you will be able to sell them on Craigslist pretty quickly I would think. The shipping thing is the tuff part. you have to be so careful with that. If you know what you are doing then it is no problem, but simply boxing them up and giving them to UPS is not going to fly, you will have major problems. The only way to ship is common carrier, and if you have experience with that you will be in great shape. Travis
  11. How sad, I have his Black Fire lp, and I really enjoy it a lot. Lung Cancer at 75, makes me want to quit smoking even more. Travis
  12. Never had the pleasure of speaking with Amy or meeting her in person, hopefully soon one of these days. However, I did receive a big box of stuff from her, t-shirts, pens, mugs, etc, key chains, etc. She is beyond way cool, she is one bitchen chick.[H] Travis
  13. Is there any good BBQ in or around Hope?
  14. One of the lawyers who works for me just got his two dogs out of the Pet Hospital after a week. His dogs got real sick a week or so ago, at first they thought it was Lepto, the stuff you get from Rodent urine. There kidneys shut down and they had to stay in the hospital while they were being flushed with IV and even dialysis. Long story short, they figured out it was the rice and venison stuff that someone previously posted about, Dick VanPatton's something or other. His was the first case in Texas, several dogs have died here in Austin, but both of his have made it through. His vet bill is over 6K!!!!! I saw people talk about Flint creek, if that is the one I am thinking about, it is make in Co. by former hippies, supposed to be great stuff. Since we went to organic after seeing Mark's post we have not had to worry, but were looking at places like Flint Creek as a back up when we didnt want to make a bunch of rice and chicken. Travis
  15. I'm in, I just didn't want to take over organizing anything since it was not my idea and I was not sure what the plan is. I was assuming there were several people who wanted to quit smoking and they were talking about picking a date. Then there was a flood, well not really a flood, several posts of people saying they quit, how bad it was, etc. I didn't see anything about any action, I hope we get at list three people on here, we all pick a mutually agreeable quit date, build it up, and stay quit. I'm still in if anyone wants to do it. Memorial day seems perfect, three days, away from work, stress, etc. The physical symptoms end after three days, and from there it is just the psychological habits you have to overcome, lighting up on the phone, in the car, etc. SO LET ME KNOW WHO IS DOING THIS AND WHEN. Travis
  16. How is it possible to be an assertive non-smoker in North Carolina? Tobacco road or not.....when you have a good friend who did two tours of duty in Viet Nam and came home without a scratch and was later cut down by a noxious weed called tobacco....its not that hard. Prior to that my father a smoker of 60 years died of lung cancer. He smoked two packs of Chesterfield non filtered cigarettes each day. If you're worried about quitting....let me share this with you....when the oncologist tells you you have six months to live.....and he was right almost to the day....suddenly cigarettes aren't that important. Remarkably you will not crave nicotine while you're dying those last few months. Sorry if this is too blunt or personal...but I've seen this.... and for the life of me I do not understand you smokers who are so deep in denial that you will justify your addiction at all cost. I wish you the best but I don't understand you. Do you think this is a dress rehearsal for a second try next time. How can you put such a value on music and such a low value on your own health. Chuck Chuck, I am sorry about your friend, I sincerely am. I lost a good friend who was only 50 a few years back, and it took right around six months. However, I don't think anyone is kidding themselves about about the health risks of smoking. It is a tough addiction, thus the reason for the post in the first place. I wish it were that easy, to flick a switch in your mind and be done with it, but it is a tough thing to quit. Like any addiction, you can't approach it from you know it is bad for you so you quit because of that. Everyone knows it's bad for you. Everyone's motivaiton is different, the main thing is finding it, and using it to quit. I'm ready to quit so I hope I can find a few other smokers on here to do it and we can all do it together. Travis
  17. Yeah your right, I did not see that. It's $1,500 including shipping, if you want them in black or cherry, new, in the boxes, with a 5 year warranty. Travis
  18. So who is quiting smoking? I'm in, someone pick a date, and let's do it. Travis

  22. The NOS Valves room featured a mix of modern and vintage gear. Craig Ostby was demonstrating his company's VRD-45ST push-pull ultralinear tube amp ($2,199). Doors were reproduced with great dynamics and negligible horn honkiness. I was very impressed with the terrific image focus and palpability on "Love Me Two Times." ========================================= Congratulations Craig!!!!! And with the Doors no less, doesn't get better then that. But I have a problem I hope you can help be with. I was looking to see what version of VRD's I had. I wasn't aware that there was a "dash 45ST" or any other designation, so I looked all over the outside of mine to see which one I had. I wanted to make sure I had the most up to date VRD's. After making a very carefull inspection on the outside I couldn't locate a number anywhere, so I took one of the amps apart. Took off the bottom, no number, took off all the wood pieces, no numbers, thought they might be under the iron so I removed the trannys, no number. Then it dawned on me, you sell them in pairs , mirror image of each other, so I figured you only put the numbers on one of the units. So I took apart the other one, down to the bare chassis, no numbers. I guess I am not looking in the right place. Any hoooo, I forgot how I got them apart and I can't get them back together. Can I put the pieces in a box and send them back to you for reassembly? If so, when they are there can you locate the number and make sure I have the latest version? If I don't have the 45ST, can you let me know what the cost would be to upgrade to the latest version? Also, the person I bought these from second hand would not give me the special one of a kind NosValves screwdriver for bias adjustment so I have been having to use my thumb nail to adjust the bias. Would it be possible to get one of those? If so, which version is available? I would post photos but I get an error message saying that there is no bandwidh available to post any more photos on the forum becasue of over usage in of photo storage space by an unidentified user in Maryland. I look forward to your usual quick response and informative response, Travis
