  1. Bob, Coytee and Dean: How far are you running these speakers from the side wall and out from the back wall. I read with interest Bob's comments about losing the "one note" effect when he brought them out from the wall. Just wondering how much room these baby's need to breathe. Edit: I forgot these were corner loaded until I read through the rest of the threads and so the great photos. How much low end do you lose if they are on a wall but no corner? Travis
  2. That is an incredible table, I had one before my current set up. It is well above "entry level" in terms of quality, but at an entry level price. In my opinion a much better way to go then Rega or MMF. Built like tanks, great tone arm, simple anti-skate (bias). I ran mine with the latest Shure V15. The plastic cover is removable so if you are going to do some lengthy listening it is easy to get it out of the way. To go from 33 to 45 is easy as pressing a button. Nice solid platter. As I recall the unit weighed at least 25 lbs, or I may just be getting old. Nothing like Scottish craftsmanship, from a man who has a terrible fear of the letter "C". Travis
  3. Tim, I got your email. Here is a link on the forum to several photos: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/1/746626/ShowThread.aspx If you would like more photos or higher resolution let me know and I would be happy to send you more. Travis
  4. Accoustic Sounds does the same thing, mail order, but they do say there may be territorial restrictions. To their credit they actually have them on display in a beautiful demo room, only problem is they are in Salina, KS. This is in fact where Sam Tellig of Stereophile obtained his LSII, and ended up keeping them. Accoustic Sounds has the entire heritage line in their catalog. We do not have one stocking heritage dealer in Austin, let alone Texas. If Chad Kassem is stocking them, and advertising them in his nationwide catalog, then more power to him. The only way they can keep heritage going is sales, and this is the way to sell them. Travis
  5. Audible, I hear that. Well I think you have seen mine, so you would know which one is better. I will take your word, it has never been in doubt. Travis
  6. I think Craig once shook his head in disbelief when I said my MX110 sounded similar to my Blueberry. Maybe not. Maybe it was that I couldn't tell the difference between CocaCola Can sized capacitors and regular pretty white and yellow ones. Hey, I'll tell ya.......the MX-110 is an underrated performer. If one can find a good example, they are an excellent preamp for the price. Mine has been largely rebuilt, and only with "pedestrian" caps (it's due for new multi section cans, though).....and I've trucked that thing in and out of several high $$$ systems comparing it to much more expensive preamps. It's why I still have it, and haven't sold it. I can only imagine what it would sound like with better caps. I need to get the multisection cans done - and it needs a tuner adjustment, and keep kicking around the idea of upgrading the other caps in the audio path. It doesn't surprise me that it comes close to a BB after the Craig treatment, because mine's not too far off, either. And that's with Solen and IC caps. And if you're running it on Mac amps, it's REALLY a good combo. I can understand wanting a C22 (what Mac lover wouldn't)......but haven't been able to justify doing that for myself......I think with a good cap upgrade could get close to C22 performance with my MX-110. Oh, and Travis......bet mine looks better than yours[] What kinda caps did Craig use on your unit??? Audible, I don't believe I have seen your MX-110, can you post some photos? Travis
  7. That has always been my point about Pete/Roger carrying on the Who name..........Let it go, it's over..........Daltery and Townshed perform the Music of the Who, I can live with that, and not the Who.......................It is about Rogers voice, that's why they have cancelled some shows,The Kids Are Not All Right.....................EH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree, but it has to be universal, across the board. The Grateful Dead should have quit using the name after Pigpen, thank god they got it right after Garcia, Pink Floyd have to stop, despite Gilmore and Mason winning their lawsuit against Waters who tried to get them to stop using the name, the Rolling Stones have to stop, Led Zep got it right and quit using the name right after Bonham died, AC/DC has to quit, Van Halen should have quit long ago. Of course, with The Who, Pete and Roger are the band. Pete wrote 99% of it, and there is no other voice like Roger. They say there was no harder hitting drummer then Moon, but I saw the Who pre and post Moon, and while he was missed, it was not like there was a gap there. There was nothing lacking in the performance at all. With John, that was going to be the big question. He really played bass like no one else because he would have to do so much fill while Pete was doing his leads, and he would actually take on a lead while Pete was doing regular strumming. With most bands the bass line is almost transparent. This was the big question in my mind, was it going to be noticible. For certain John's stage presence wasn't going to be missed, he always played in the wings, but that was the big question on my mind, would there be any gap. Of course if Daltery has no voice then it is worthless. I saw now that they got a bad review in Denver because of the voice issue. Without the voice it would be terrible, it would be more than a "gap" it would be an abyss, the same with Pete. I have not read enough reviews yet, so far nothing about the lack of bass, plenty about the lack of vocal chords. It is possible that if Roger was in perfect form then the bass would be much more noticible. It's like one way out of tune or badly played violin in an orchestra, you really don't know know how anything else sounds except that one bad violin. Well, they say they are going to reschedule, but I doubt there will be that big of an effort for San Antonio. They just cancelled Mexico as well. I am glad it got cancelled if the voice was shot, I have great memories of that band live, I would hate for my last thoughts to have been, he needs to hang it up. Travis
  8. Which CJ SS Amp do you have. They have incredible equipment, what preamps have you tried with it so far? Travis
  9. I have an MX-110 that I would be willing to sell. It has just come from a full check up from Craig at Nos Valves, feel free to contact him about it. He will tell you it is one of the nicest MX-110's he has ever seen, that the tuner is in perfect allignment, the lettering is 90%, it shines like chrome, there is no pitting. He replaced everything that needed replacing, he called me about a couple of minor things and said they could wait or he could go ahead and do it now, and I told him to go ahead with everything. I think he will tell you that you should not have to worry about the preamplifier or the tuner section of this unit for a very, very long time. You certainly will not need a capacitor, since he sent me a bucket full when he returned the unit. I have not tried this, but he said that he was able to put it side by side with his Blueberry and, with some tone adjustments, get it to sound the "same." I don't know if he meant identical, or what speakers he was listening to or the source. I have played it exactly 8 hours since I got it back from him. (That reminds me I either need to send him some money or return two tubes to him). I have the original manual, not a photo copy, a McIntosh Shipping box from Classic Audio that is bullet proof. If you are interested let me know, I am at tcwesq@texas.net Travis
  10. Michael had a post on here recently about the Who, I think he had tickets as was wondering if anyone had seen them on this current tour. I had tickets for their San Antonio show tomorrow (3/20/07) in San Antonio. I just got an email letting me know that the show had been scheduled because Roger Dalterys voice has gone south due to a "medical condition." They say they may reschedule. Anybody know the inside scoop on this? They are scheduled for Little Rock next. I am real disapointed, I was really looking forward to this concert, but I am glad I missed Roger with a raspy voice. I hope they are able to reschedule and I still get to see them. I knew it didn't have anything to do with Pete, he was in Austin for the last several day for Soutth by Southwest and I got the chance to see him speak during the seminar sessions. Travis
  11. Unfortunately, the long wall won't work for everything, and it will be some time before I can do something about that door. Travis
  12. Ahhhh, yes I have, but not at this point. I plan on converting that area to a bar, but it is way down the road, so I need more a of near term fix. Travis
  13. The "flag" is actually Big Red's saddle blankent he wore for warm up rides before the Kentucky Derby. I am very proud to have it, in my opinion, there was never a horse as great as Secretariat, and it does not appear there every will be. For those who consider these nobel animials to be athletes, he has no equal. I like the Dixie Chicks guitar as well, I get a lot of comments about it. Travis
  14. No, 20' presents a wonderful center image, with great soundstage. The center image is wide, very clear, I could not even imagine butressing that with a center channel. Regarding the crendenza, thank you for the comments. I was very pleased with the work this company did, Diamond Case, out of California. Travis
  15. If I do it on the long wall the only suitable listening area is going to be right up against the opposite wall, which limits max capacity to 3 or 4 at best. In addition, I don't believe it is a long enough throw to fill up of screen. Travis
  16. Same thing from opposite direction, front of KSP 400 is placed 44" from wall, the bass bin would come up about 2/3's of the way up the A in "1A".
  17. I have placed the KSP 400 so that the front is 42" from the wall, the distance needed for a false wall.
  18. Your wish is my command, another photo of 14' wall, opposite the screen wall
  19. A photo of the "rear wall. This shows the two channel rack, the Khorn in the right corrner is the left speaker in the 2 channel system. The door on the left goes into a lanudry room rendering it impossible to use that corner.
  20. Hey James, It looks like they will be 2's, if I fell in love with them then I would look to getting 3's and moving 2's to the rear. Another photo of the left corner (which is currently the left channel for HT and right channel for 2 channel)
  21. TREY: The measurements going from left to right are: From left wall to edge of the screen is 30" Screen is 99" wide, including border From the right screen edge to the right entryway door is 89" The media credenza is 77" wide From the left wall to the edge of the credenza is 36" (A LS will thus fit in this space but would be limited on how much it could be toed in, from what little I know about Jubs, they would way too wide, 40+ inches, to fit)
  22. This photos shows the more of the short wall, Left HT speaker (KSP 400) in front of Khorn, this is the right speaker in my 2 channel system, I have to move the KSP 400 in and out of the way everytime I go from HT and back again.
  23. I have sold my Khorns to Shinerman, and am looking to replace them with cornwalls. A couple of people suggested 60th Anniv. Khorns becasue they have sealed backs and so they might work in my application. Several people have asked why I am looking to go from Khorns to CW's, and Trey asked me to send him a diagram of my room to see if there is any possibilty of being able to use 60th Khorns. Sooooooooooooooooooo, rather then try and post a diagram or describe it in words, I took so photos and measurements so Trey can see what it is I am talking about. The room is, essentially, 20 by 14. The projection screen is on the short wall. There is an entry area into the room that is roughly 7' wide and goes in 6' before the actual 20 by 14 area starts. This first photo shows the entry area, projection screen and the current right HT speaker.
  24. Michael, Do not sniff that cap, the label say right on it that it has the E coli bacteria in it. There might have to be a nation wide recall of caps. Apparently your caps got to close to some Jack in the Box beef. You need to be careful and practice safe cap handeling techniques. Never use a knife on your caps and then use the same knife on chicken. Be sure to wash your hands after touching beef before you touch your Khorns. Travis
