  1. Are the first ones going to be real affordable? like <$500? Not like it matters to me because I just have a basic CRT. no hd tv yet. scp53
  2. no, a parametric eq won't do it. Your going to need to adjust the phase on the back of the amps. What 3 subs do you have out of curiosity? scp53
  3. I agree with Olorin. I think your going to have a comb filter affect or something(is that the right word?). scp53
  4. Colin, have you ordered that titanic kit yet? or are you making it DIY? the price on it is still $688 shipped to your door, not $725. scp53
  5. the rsw15 does have good performance. But for a movie like The Incredibles, your missing the REAL low end for sure. Theres a lot of <25hz content and goes as low as in a few spots 5hz(which very few subs can do). That rsw15 is good to like 22-25hz if i recall correctly. So you miss a lot(the REALLY subsonic stuff) of the movie. The same goes for Finding Nemo, u571, and some other movies. The other night i watched The Incredibles and there was a part with almost pure unhearable bass(<20-25). If I would have been using my 10in titanic it would either have blown or just not heard it(the titanic is good to 30hz). Now for movies like Gladiator the rsw15 is really good(no real low stuff that im aware of). It gives you the "punch" in the movies. anyone agree with me on what i just said? scp53
  6. Is DIY an option at all for you? I just built a Ascendant Audio Atlas 15in sub in a 6.5 cu. ft box(size after amp/brace/woofer/etc). Its tuned to 20hz and has a TON of output. I built it all for $350 which includes shipping and all my parts and paint. Its capable of keeping up with some of the bigger svs's(<$2000). And if musicality is a big concern, don't worry because its still quite musical. IMO, it can stay as tight with music as my dayton 10in titanic which is sealed. I ll have finished cab pics up on another thread in a few days. Oh yea, and it only needs to 250-300watts to get full potential in this box. Heres a few pics of it(before i finished it)-
  7. dude, both of those are reusable and either is fine. I was talking about crimp ones where you crimp the metal around the wire. like these- if you have any more questions just ask. scp53
  8. I highly recommend going to parts express for the wire(partsexpress.com). you don't need to buy pre-assembled wire, you can make your own. Buy some dayton bannas(compression ones not crimp ones because they can't be reused) and strip the wire and put them on. If you HAVE TO buy prebuilt dayton does have those too, but they'll cost you more. Are you sure you want bannas though? I'll tell you right now. Maybe you should just use bare wire and tighten it down good? scp53
  9. glad to hear that you sold it . Now you can build your ultimate sub system(for most people it would be). please post pics when its all done. scp53
  10. thanks for the comment Ear. It means a little more when it comes from the subwoofin king . As for finish, I just got it done in black and its NICE. sprayed it with crylon(not spelled right) flat black 4 times and sanded between coats and the last coat. Then sprayed it with clear lauquer(spelling?). Really brought out the deep black. Ill have pics by tonight hopefully. Now i have to make a "fabric pad" to go on the bottom of it. And then after that Im making a grill for it(not sure of color though). later scp53
  11. I think the svs is the better option in this case because its a HT. If it was more music than HT than the rw12. But you may want to consider a little bigger svs depending on how loud you like it. scp53

    thanx guys

congrats on the purchase. out of curiosity, what did you pay for it(if i may ask) and where from? scp53
  13. i have not been able to do any test with my receiver and plate amp(in process of finishing cab). I think it will be hard to unless i run my receiver wire up one of the ports and leave the plate amp on the back. As soon as the black finish is done ill remount everything and try to post in room response. And i think on the bottom im just going to put some fabric(thick stuff) on it. I don't know if there would be any benefit to using feet, etc. It weighs in at 120lbs so feet or no feet, its not going to move. Let my know if there would be any sound difference? Chad from ascendant audio told me he never uses feet on his cabs. scp53
  14. My friend has one of these and its pretty cool. He got Spiderman 2 with it and the movie quality is quite impressive. The only problem that I saw was "ghosting" because its a LCD. As for the sound, i had headphones so I think it sounded much better than the speakers built in. I think this thing has much more potential than an ipod does for music. but id spend my on audio far before this kind of stuff. scp53
  15. try posting in the promedia section of the forum. you'll get a better answer to your question.
  16. I dont have "main outs" on my receiver. but my cheapo dvd player has line out for the mains, center, surround, and sub. i think ill try that when i get home. should that sub amp play as clean as my receiver? the sub amp wont need to work nearly as hard to push the klipsch. with my older 100wt x2 receiver i could get the full potential(spl wise) out of my sb3's(and of course rb25s). ill post back what i find out later today. scp53 ps- do you think something could be wrong with the 250 from PE? doesnt it either work or not? it always powers up fine, all controls work well etc.
  17. I think moving to a different amp will mainly stop clipping. right now that seems to happen on music but for ht it doesnt appear to happen. i talked to Chad from ascendant and he said the 250 is perfect for this combo. All the spl tests he's done outside have been using that "basic" 250wt amp. he said he never clipped his in extreme testing. But those are pure tones and not music content. i think if i were to upgrade i'd get a 350-400wt with soft clipping and a 24db slope(i have 12db now). I seem to be getting the same clipping problem that i had with the titanic so having soft clipping would be nice. i think ill take some measurments tonight if my parents aren't in the house. scp53
  18. Im sure its a voice coil problem as already stated. Wonder what does it cost to do a recone job?
  19. no, its just an advertising thing. you can check out that commercail on the main klipsch site. you can even see the commercial on the vw site. the only thing i saw wrong with it was that the sub box said 1000watts and r-8(this is not even a model) on it. it looked like a rw10 or 12 and neither of those have that big of an amp. you can rewatch the commercial on see for yourself. scp53
  20. do you know what he's going to? a smaller svs? IB,etc? scp53
  21. wonder why he's selling? needs more output?
  22. Finally, there actually is some life on this forum. everyone must be gone or something for the last few days. i had my post up forever and no one viewed or replied to it. well i'll give a quick reveiw right now and later get more in depth. MUSIC performance- the titanic seems to have overall a little tighter sound and more punchy sound. however, the atlas is also very fine at music too. doent have that higher end snap quite as much but fills in the low end better. the soundstage has more depth will running the atlas over the titanic. in terms of spl and distortion, the atlas dominates in both areas easily. for music i seem to get about 10db or more output depending on the frequency(thats clean). the only shortfall that i still get with both subs is slight amp clipping. maybe my amp has a problem? HT- in this area the atlas has the biggest difference over the titanic. the atlas has a heck of a lot more output down low. i havent had time to measure though. depending on the room you can get usable response down to 16hz or so. i watched finding nemo and the atlas shook the whole house(hits 105-114db at ~2m with sub sitting near a corner). one of these times im gonna take a picture right off the wall(they move pretty good right now, and so do the lights). with every movie i watched so far the altas beat the titanic hands down. i think after hearing the klipsch rsw12 i think that this sub could compete with a rsw15 in ht and maybe music(with a little bit better amp). more to come soon. keep asking questions. scp53
  23. do you think your bedroom could withstand that?
