  1. I just got my turntable back from the shop. It's an old Marantz 6300. They put in a new cartridge, aligned everything and made sure it works. I plugged it into my denon 4308 phono and the grounding wire. It plays beautifully, but then after 8 seconds it stops. I can still hear the sound from the needle, but there's nothing form my speakers for 4 seconds. Then it goes back to normal. It cycles like this continually, volume through the speakers, then off, then on , then off, all the while i can hear it through the needle. I've tried different records, so it's not that. I've tried with the grounding wire connected and disconnected, same result. I thought maybe my separate amp for 2 channel wasn't getting enough of a signal so it was going into standby (sort of like a subwoofer), so i upped the volume and put my receiver on 7 channel stereo (the other speakers are all connected directly to the receiver) and sound cuts out on all of them at the same time. Another note, when i first turn everything on, it works for a longer period of time, say 20-30 seconds, then starts the 4 second interval thing. If i leave everything on, then start playing a record, it will do the 4 second thing with no extended good long playing time. It is not skipping, it's playing normally, just sound is cutting out to my speakers intermittently. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?
  2. i used to have the 3805, and upgraded to the 4308. if you don't need hdmi or video scaling, or the newer technologies, the 3805 is very capable
  3. what will you be mostly using it for and whata re you connecting to it currently and maybe in the future?
  4. I agree, i have NEVER heard noise from my ps3, but playing call of duty 4 on the 360, i can hear the drive spinning and noise even during intense gunfire.
  5. My PS3 outputs uncompressed audio just fine to my klipsch system and it sounds fantastic. it also does it's own decoding of dolby true HD and outputs it as LPCM. the only thing it doesn't do is dts master audio, which hasn't been an issue for me so far. it also loads blu ray disk almost instantaneously while other players take up to 2 minutes. until someone releases a stand alone 2.0 profile player with good load speeds and can pass everything to my denon 4308 as bitstream or decode all sound formats itself and play SACD and DVD-Audio and output regular dvd at 480i to replace my current denon 3910, my ps3 and me are going places!

  7. A reciever is just an amp and a processor. you already have an amp. a good powerful amp. a seperate processor will not only sound better than a reciever, but you'll save money since you already have the amp and can use it on the processor alone. check the threads, things like the new Integra will have everything you need plus a scaler and you can just hook it up to your amp. denon is coming out with seperates soon too, though they will be massive and very expensive. you can also use a reciever as a pre-amp / processor, but it won't be as good as a pure stand alone processor. check outlaw audio / emotiva, places like that, there's lots of threads on this board for it.
  8. if you already have a 7 channel amp, don't get a reciever, go for seperates. don't waste your money
  9. I used run my RF7s with the denon 3805. It was pretty decent. Since i've upgraded to the 4308, much bigger improvement. But neither can match running them through my Luxman 2 channel 200 watt amp. I have no subwoofer and the RF-7s rattle my room and get pretty deep. 2 channel listening has so much stage presence and imagery. Once i can get more amps for my home theater, I can't wait to look into seperates.
  10. The new denon's have an updated graphical user interface. (all recievers from a few years ago were text only, a few now are making the leap to graphics like sony's x media bar, and onkyo's has one too i believe) i think the Denon models 2808 up (3808 and 4308) have the graphical user interface. and it's 2,3, and 4 HDMI inputs respectively. i have the 4308. it's a beast. (retail is $2,500, i got it for $2,000) though for the money, you can get the 3808 for a good price (i think like 1,250) and spend the $1,000 difference on a great 2x200 watt per channel amp from maybe rotel or outlaw or emotiva. you'll lose 1 HDMI input and wireless ethernet to wired going from the 4308 to the 3808. (not a big deal i don't think) also i tihnk the 4308 has AL24 processing on all channels vs AL24 on just the fronts or something for the 3808. you can check other forums and denon.com for the details. i always recommend denon, i love em. i heard the new onkyo's run very hot = less life span and more potential problems. and haven't used a sony since way back in the day which was a low-mid reciever and sounded very tinny, but a lot's changed since then and i hear the new ones give a lot of bang for the buck.
  11. Srobak, I would definatley swap that Harmon Karden reciever with the cneter channel, being so close to the floor it might make it boomy and off. Also if there's anything infront of the seating position (coffee table), it would most definately be hitting that
  12. I would bet that most of your harshness is due to the reciever and sound environment. get a seperate amp or better reciever and make sure hardwood floors are carpeted and windows are curtained. i used to run mine form a denon 3805 ( a good reciever), and even the new 4308 (even better), now that I have my seperate 2 channel amp just for the rf-7s, it's night and day. the bass shakes my whole room and I don't even have a subwoofer.
  13. I have the pro-150 and I must say I am blown away. I was never turned on to plasmas, but now there's no turning back. I went from an LCD Projection Sony that had very grey blacks. I also like how the "elite" is nice and copper in the black frame, matches my klipsch reference speakers :-)
  14. Looks very nice, but might I suggest a giant area floor rug on that wooden floor in front of those speakers?
  15. I see the 3805 on ebay right now for $510 with a day left, so i tihnk $550 is pretty fair since it comes with everything and is in good shipping boxes ready to go. If no one wants it on here i'll put it up on ebay I guess.
  16. I have the 4308 right now and watched Bad Boys II, 5th element, usual suspects, and the rock, and i was completley blown away with the audyssey claibration. i also thinkt he faroudja chip in it is better than the old one they used in their denon 3910 DVD player. i think it has a ton of customizable options. i think it's awesome.
  17. about a week ago is aw 3805 going for 550-600 on ebay and the 3806 going up to 700, on audiogon it's about the same area. i have it packaged in my box for the 4308, and the box that that came in with styrafoam balls around that, so shipping shouldn't be a problem.
  18. is $600 too high? $550 better?
  19. wasn't too sure if it was appropriate to post prices or not, but looking for $600, was $1299 when I got it again, perfect working mint condition, never driven too hard since i'm in a small apartment with lots of neighbors I upgraded to the new 4308 remote, manual, remote codes, calibration microphone included. It's black, not silver. I'm at the office right now so can't take a picture of it in my rack, but these are from the web link to the product sheet http://usa.denon.com/AVR-3805_Final_productsheet.pdf
  20. If anyone is interested before it's put on ebay or audiogon, denon 3805 for sale, comes with original manual, remote, remote codes, and calibration microphone.
  21. I believe your receiver would say MPCM because the current HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players do the decoding for Dolby Digital + and Dolby Digital HD and DTS HD and DTS Master Audio whatever 5,000 formats there are at this point internally, and then send the Multichannel PCM (MPCM) already decoded signal through the HDMI to your receiver (essentially, a 5.1 multichannel signal but instead of using 5 analog cords like SACD and DVD-Audio, it's using the HDMI cable) When the new players start coming out that can send uncoded signals, the receivers themselves will fo the decoding (for instance the new denon 3808 and 4308 and new onkyo's.) the only player i know coming out that will send the signal to the processor to be decoded is the new denon 2500. the 3000 will have in internal decoded.
  22. the new 4308 has a redesigned power uspply, but not toroidal, there's a great interview on listenup.com about it. i have mine pre-ordered already. it also has a faroudja upconverion / scaling chip, although some people are cusious how it will stack against the Reon's in the new, less expensive, and THX certified onkyo's
  23. you don't need it, but if you're like me and upgrade your fronts or surrounds, just use the old ones in the back.
  24. you CAN use the RC-35. Just like you CAN use low grade fuel in a sports car. But don't you want the high grade? Get the rc-7, throw the rc 35 in the back for your rear center channel. it's glooooooorious
  25. enemy at the gates is only OK hulk is "incredibly" long spider man 2 after watching a few teams i really didn't like the movie at all, and i could see the special effects sort of dated and not blended well with the movie, but might be your best bet for sound and techinicality
