  1. Always loved that Apple case I liked the G3 and G4.. Too cool.
  2. I'll share design when we get it gets done. My friend does the design work I try to follow but I am mostly solder monkey. I prefer no feedback.
  3. We were talking about this last night. We are going to do dual power supplies with slow start 6D22S instead of 816 tubes. They come up to full voltage over 30 seconds. The 816s would not get us enough current with what we have on hand. Major bummer. We are going to use 6SL7 differential input with CCS but still working on other details. I have a bunch sovtek and eh 2a3 tubes which I didn't notice till today are monoplates. Then I have a stash of jan rca 2a3s... Certainly enought to test some stuff out.
  4. I love that. Yeah I like new guts old shells and also the rat rod mentality.
  5. The struggle is do I semi restore it or keep it as is.. I kinda like the rat rod look.. I have to build a stand for it because the front cover hangs. It was meant to be on a wall.
  6. I wouldn't be opposed to Interstage 2a3. A modern input but will see what works out.
  7. Love the Klangfilm. I have a stack of old large HAM chassis style cabinets. Going to get them sand blasted and painted.
  8. I already built a pair of 12A clones based on PWK's Brook so maybe a more modern 2a3PP. That isn't an interstage but a center tapped choke. Very strange. I love 816 they are great and that is the plan so far.
  9. Sounds like fun.. It is hard to beat a 6SN7 for good reason an amazing tube. I also have a great stash of 6J5s which are exactly half of a 6SN7. I've thought of doing a 6J5 pre as well... A flea watt push pull 6SN7 would be fun as well maybe 4 per channel. I put PC with DACs fortunately I am able to run a Mac Mini through my EAD Dac. It works better than expected. Tidal has also been a pleasant surprise.
  10. I view it as a balance. What is your order of importantce other than speakers as overkill there is perfectly sane. I think 1-3 should be of the highest quality you can manage or at least that is what I do. I love rolling amplifiers but have found preamp and sources reveal more changes to me.. At least lately.. Could change mind tomorrow. 1. Preamp incl phono 2. Dac 3. Sources 4. Amps My next diy project will be a 112a preamp with slagle avc for volume controls. Never liked the resistive path...
  11. That is true. It isn't uncommon to have fresh tomatoes from the garden at Thanksgiving. @dwilawyer You don't call you don't write??
  12. I think you are going to have to wait until the bag is out of the cat.
  13. I thought there was a lot of room in this double chassis for something big 211 or gm70 but but when you start adding big parts it shrinks fast. I have a good stash of 45's and 2a3's so I am thinking a push pull triode amplifier with a mercury power supply. I could be rational and do a damper diode power supply. What would you guys stuff in this cabinet??
  14. That is true I keep forgetting location. When I restore test gear or amplfiers with electrolytics I shoot for as close to original and 105c or higher temp rating. I just fixed a MA6100 by replacing all the little electrolytics before the big ones. A good day when that happens.
  15. I'm hugely confused... SS with 01A tubes? Schematic? I was just joking about a flea watt 01a push pull amplifier...
  16. If it is a piece I am going to use often I go ahead and replace them as they are a ticking time bomb. I use Hayseed Hamfest for all my electrolytic needs.
  17. I was concerned about the size of the outputs. This was found in rural arkansas but maybe lol...... Will look at them abit closer.
  18. Here is the business side. The block box holds two small output transformers.
  19. This is in two chassis. It has many variacs or are some of them variable resistors? The two tubes in power supply are OA3 and the second chassis has 4 6l6gc 4 12ax7a and two 6sc7 tubes. Very good DIY but the parts are scary old. The output transformers are very small... This is power supply chassis
  20. Those parts were toasted. I love EL84 amps more than I expected. The Fisher I did recently was a PITA but totally worth it... Post progress pics!!!!
  21. The ye olde Warthog days 8-) I miss Maron... Can't wait to hear the new and improved warthog.
  22. Why pick just one. I love both and I don't see how you can go wrong..
  23. This is from the dawn of audio. The WE555 and the WE16A are among the first hi-fi devices. The amount of money Western Electric poured into audio was tremendous. The devices they made are still state of the art. PWK based the K55 off of the WE555 in fact the first Khorn had a WE555 driver. Fun stuff to study...
  24. Not a sub that is the WE 16A. The 16a is about 100hz to 5khz. I've heard one with we tweeters and a sub underneath.
